Who hired this coach? Some responsibility would be nice
After watching Team Canada game live and then watching the highlights I have a few takeaways from what I seen and what the future holds for the National mens team moving forward.
First off Shai is a superstar NOW. Safe to say he was our best player even though RJ Barret had a great Olympic tournament tbh. Shai knew when to take over games, and always made the right read when passing the ball to teammates.
RJ Barret had the best tournament on both sides of the ball in my opinion. Did a little bit of everything and hit timely shots to swing momentum in tight games down the stretch. Did not shy away from match ups and his confidence was very contagious which I hope he Carrie's into next season for the Raptors.
LU & Dillon played their roles to perfection and were pests and ball hawks all tournament. I think Dort played better defense for longer stretches than Dillon, but Dillon held his own and were the reason we beat Spain and did well in the group of death.
Our Bigs Powell, Birch, & Kelly are the reason why we did not advance deeper into the medal round in my opinion. The fact that Dillon was guarding Wemby for stretches of the game let's you know that Team Canada presence inside was nonexistent. Kelly is a good pick and pop big, but when we lack paint touches and inside game then it's going to be tough getting to the free throw line and getting the other team in foul trouble. It was good to see Birch return to basketball and Powell should have been used more as the first big off the bench in my opinion.
The future of Canada Basketball both men and women looks really bright. For the first time ever it looks like the mens team finally has a direction that they are headed in and a pool of NBA players to choose from. The women program which I will write about later on in the week is in the middle of a youth movement while the mens program is looking for consistency and buy in from a few players like Edey and Wiggins which a few years ago would have been difficult maybe impossible due to the history of Team Canada players not participating or committing to the National program due to lack of funding or insurance or whatever.
Do we beat France with Wiggins and Edey on this roster!?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's looking like Australia will finish as the 6th seed, while we go 3rd
Order:
USA
Germany
Canada
Serbia
France
Australia
Brazil
Greece/South Sudan
France beat Japan and Germany defeated Brazil.
Hi there! I wanted to provide some links to podcasts that are doing Olympic basketball coverage. Totally selfish as I host one of these, but I think people are looking for it!
Please add anything I might've missed!! I know there are lots out there but this is what's in my rotation.
I'll be there next Friday foe the game vs Spain. Would love to meet up with Canadians at a pub prior to game time! We can walk over as a group of red & white
