Is the 7700 xt worth it?

I've been eyeing the 7700 xt(Sapphire nitro+) for some time now, only one problem, are those 12 gb of vram enough for 1440p or will this be a problem.Price is 390 euro(420 $).

Also the CPU is a 5700x.

First time pc build

First time pc build, how'd I do? Had a budget of 2k and was shooting for a solid gaming build. Running 1440 with high fps. No streaming or any creative stuff with this build. And I understand the extra ssd is likely a waste but wanted it there just in case.

High-powered PC for VR Game Development (3.5k CAD)

Budget: 3.5k CAD (I don't want to go overboard if i don't have to though.

Operating System: Windows

Hi! As indicated above I am looking for a high powered machine I can use for all my VR development tasks. I work primarily in Unity and have been past decade. My machine is nearing a decade old and though at the time it was really good, now its really starting to hurt as time between testing is becoming horrendous, especially on big projects that demand lots of CPU, GPU and Memory (both disk n ram).

Pretty much every area I need improvement and thankfully I have funding for my development at the moment so its a good time to get updated with the latest.

Basically most of my issues right now are that iteration time is slow. I press play in Unity and it takes 20 seconds to test the build on a good day. It seems like my coworkers are taking like 1-5 seconds maximum.. I really would like it to be faster. Other issues are just when I get into "Quest Link" it starts really using a lot of GPU and my fans start getting very loud. Its frustrating hearing that would love for something quieter with this build.

I have heard of people having problems with water cooling and that breaking build, wondering if its smarter to stay away from that especially if I'm not planning on overclocking this PC.

One of my coworkers gave me the PC partlist they used to build theirs: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/kQqwbL

I'm not sure about AMD vs Intel, always gone with Intel until now because I was worried about compatbility, and generally i aim for Nvidia too, also for that purpose. Nvidia comes out with a lot of useful tools.

I also frequently have issues with disk space, and working memory is easily eaten up so its not smart for me to go too low on that end. I think i need a 2TB SSD (Nvme?) and then maybe another 4TB just hard disk so i can always have storage space available for recording and whatnot.

I really don't know what to do / pick here with what I'm looking for. Guidance would be massively appreciated.

THANKS.

Note: 3.5k is my max budget, I don't wanna spend it all unless it actually is necessary. I don't know at what point i'll get diminishing returns.

Need feedback on possible first build.

parts list https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Pq4LTY

Hey everyone, I'm building a new PC that will mostly be used for gaming, watching TV and YouTube, and some minor graphic design and animation. I've spent the last few months going part by part and combination by combination to choose my parts to build the best PC for my needs within my budget, 2300 CAD, and came up with this list with my reasoning for choosing these parts. ANY thoughts or recommendations on the overall build, price point, parts or my writing skills are welcome and appreciated, Thank you!

CPU-Ryzen 7800x3d- I picked this CPU because it seems to be the best for gaming and some productivity, came highly rated and i kept reading that it was the best gaming CPU. I also read that even though the 7900x3d should be better mix for gaming and productivity it somehow is worse at both.

CPU cooler-Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler- I picked this cooler because it was recommended as the best bang for your buck CPU cooler while still delivering on performance, which let me spend more money on other parts of the build.

Motherboard-Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard- The motherboard was honestly the part that took me the longest to decide on since there were just WAY too many options and WAY too many seemingly being prone to being lemons of having had issues that have since been fixed. Why i finally decided on this one though is that the issues it had, frying 7000 series CPUs, had reportedly been fixed so long as I flash the bios before installing my CPU, as well as that it meets all my needs in attempting to future proof my motherboard without dropping 400 or more CAD on it.

Memory-G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory- Once I finally understood how Ram worked and how EXPO worked I basically went with what was cheapest in those parameters, not much else to say about it.

Storage-Western Digital Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive- Much like memory I don't have much to say about my choice of storage, Western digital seems like a good brand, I have a different one of their SSDs in my current PC, has about the same performance as similar performing SSDs while being cheaper in price.

GPU-4070 Super FE- I decided on the 4070 Super Fe for a few reasons, I heard Nvidia is better if I want to graphic design or animation as well as gaming, the 4070 super seems to be in the sweet spot for performance/price and I've read that the Fe retains it's value the best for when I want to upgrade.

Case-NZXT H6 Flow- I chose the H6 Flow because I liked the design, and I read that it was both easy to build in as well as being great for air cooling.

PSU-Corsair RM750- I'm stuck with this one because I already bought it when it was on a good sale, My reasoning for buying it though is that most importantly the wattage should be enough, and also because the RM series of Corsair power supplies seems to rank pretty high on most peoples tier lists of PSUs. Added bonus of being fully modular.

First pc build…gaming and mild data crunching/programming

I want to build a pc for the first time. I use Linux Mint so no need to include budget for Windows. I would like to be able to easily run Sims 4 (modded) and Baldur’s Gate 3. Really, it would be nice to easily run basically any game and not have Steam crash my whole computer. I also am a programmer and I do lots of data analysis for work, I need a terabyte of storage and some good processing power. I can stretch my budget up to $1000 but I would prefer not to.

First PC, Used, Own built or Prebuilt?

Hey, I was just wondering whether it's better to buy a prebuild/use of Facebook marketplace instead of getting parts and building it myself, I've got a very low budget of $600 AUD, and I have no experience in picking out parts, but some experience in building a pc.

Note I do already have peripherals as I've been using a non-gaming laptop around 4 years and its time has come to an end. Running games barely 50 fps consistent.

My goals:

Be able to conformably run triple AAA games around 60fps, and 150-200 fps on competitive games, like league of legends, Valorant, CS2, Tekken 8. Thank you for helping me pick out parts.

Be able to upgrade the parts like CPU, GPU etc

And most importantly I do not mind if it does not have RGB, just pure performance.

First pc build

I'm looking to get my first gaming pc with a budget of around $850. (I don't really want to go much higher than that. unless its under 900 and a better build.) So, I used some pc lists, messed around a little to get what I think might just be what i want, but wanted to ask here to see your guy's opinions. or if you can make something better for around the same price. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/V6Mkt7

Also, would these be able to run 1440p well, or best with 1080p?

and I found this prebuilt on newegg, (please if you can tell me which one is better between the two pcs.)

New PC for father

Hello everyone 😊

My sister, mother and I bought my father a new monitor for his birthday (32” WQHD 165Hz Monitor) - I know he would NEVER need the 165 Hz. The only game he plays is a 15 years(?) old shooter, but he wanted a bigger screen and the 165 Hz were just there ^^

Now his old PC (~10years) can’t support more than 60Hz also my father was recently complaining more and more that the PC is extremely slow + Windows 10 is loosing support soon so we decided is probably time for a new one.

The new PC should again last for around 10 years so I searched for some parts and would like to hear your opinions an that configuration. Maybe some advice on parts that would be better

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

Mainboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH (I really wanted that USB3.2 Gen 2 Connector, so we can get him a front panel with fast USB-C ports)

RAM: 16GB G.Skill RipJaws V DDR4-3600 CL18

SSD: 1TB WD Blue SN580 M.2 (I know the CPU only supports PCIe 3.0, but its cheaper that other PCIe 3.0 SSDs)

PSU: 500 Watt be quiet! System Power 9 CM Modular 80+ Bronze (In case he will need a graphics card, maybe he becomes a gamer in the next years :’D )

(We would reuse his old case)

Advice on my parts list? $2000+

Hey all,

Just looking for a good overview on my list i've created below - this is my first build and planning to be the only build for the next few years hopefully. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the 4090 to futureproof as much as possible, and the ryzen 7 given my focus in gaming for this PC. Would love to save some money on what I have here, but processor and 4090 in some capacity are hard locked for me.

I'm close to 2 Microcenters (NJ and NYC). Let me know if this improves cost in some way I haven't materialized.

Explain picking specs to me like i'm 5

TL;DR I just bought a laptop someone who claimed to be good with computers said would meet my needs, and I'm highly disappointed. Can't return it. Want to learn how to choose specs so I don't waste another $600+ again.

Basically I just bought a $600 laptop I was told would do everything I need it to do. Thought it was fine because it has like 40GBRAM and 2TB SSD. Not sure about the graphics card, but nothing I play is graphics intensive.

Well.

This thing overheats like crazy. Simply having a web browser open to do research for my writing causes it to over heat intensely, even on a flat hard surface.

The only game I've played on it so far is Runescape 3, which I figured wouldn't be any type of an issue because I've ran that game on the worst of the worst computers without any type of issues at all. I was wrong. It frequently crashes even though I have the graphics settings on low, and am on the least populated server I can be on(how I prefer to play). It very frequently maxes out my CPU and just crashes. THANKFULLY, it only crashes the program, not my actual computer.

None of the games I would play on this laptop would be more intensive than Runescape 3, but the fact that it can't handle the one intensive game I WOULD play and play frequently makes me want to get a new laptop all together.

And of course I'm passed the return date.

All and all, for $600, I feel like I actually bought a $300 or less refurbished laptop instead of a $600 brand new one.

And before any one suggests I get a desktop, I already have a desktop. I need a laptop to be able to do my writing while not at home, and to also have another computer to be able to play games with my partner who has cerebral palsy and fine motor skill issues, and therefore cannot play console games that require a controller. My soon to be assisted living apart doesn't even have the space for me to set up my PC like a PC (so it will essentially be like how it is now, a console because I also don't have the space for it to be set up like a PC) and will be hooked up to my TV to be used for gaming.

If I would have known this particular laptop couldn't handle web browseing without overheating so bad it felt like it was going to literally burn me, or that it couldn't run RS3 with out capping my CPU, I would have just asked them to find a different one or posted here sooner about how to pick a computer. Expensive lesson to learn I guess....

Want to attempt my first build

Looking to create my first scratch built PC. I do some light gaming (EverQuest, but its 25 years old), but would not mind the option to get more into PC gaming than console gaming. I also deal with large datasets, tableau, and alteryx, so would like something that handles these with ease as well.

I keep building parts lists on part builder, but then picking them apart, or second guessing. I am looking for something that will be relatively simple for a first time builder, where I am not going to run into a bunch of issues, or have to update motherboard bios, etc. One of the concerns is that it can get somewhat warm in my office, so I fear I may not set up cooling properly, etc.

I'd like to be around an $600- 800 budget, but could possibly stretch it to $1000. I was looking to stay on the lower side more so because of the uncertainty that I will be successful in the build. Any suggestions would be great.

I am within an hour of a micro center, so I have looked at attempting a Ryzen 7, or the Ryzen 5 5600x that is currently roughly $140 off Amazon.

Any suggestions are kindly appreciated.

Building first computer - Budget 1200€

I'm looking to build my first Desktop PC. I'd mainly be doing audio work on the PC, running Studio One 6 on it. Maybe also some light gaming now and then. Budget is around 1200€. I'm based in Finland, but I'm willing to order from within Europe if it gets me more bang for my buck. Bonus points if I can order everything from the same vendor.

Got a new job and my old laptop just isn't keeping up! Please help me stay employed ($1400-$1800)

I am looking to build my first PC and feeling lost every time I see some "Razorknife GPXU 2930 drive coil 2.0" being compared to a "Razorknife GPXU 2930 drive coil 2.0 II". I am pretty savvy with a computer once it's not parts, but I would appreciate some patient help in getting started on this endeavor.

My budget is between $1400-$1800 but I would like that budget ideally to include any additional costs such as peripherals, shipping, or whatever computer glue I will need.

My main needs ordered by importance are:

  1. Adobe Suite- I will be editing short, but quality, videos between 2-10 minutes long in Premier Pro, large RAW images in Lightroom, designing graphics with >30 layers in Photoshop, and working extremely huge and extremely tiny SVGs in Illustrator. I have never worked in After Effects or Substance because my laptop sucks, but I may check them out if I can.
  2. AI- As AI becomes more commonplace, and efficient, I want to make sure that I am able to make use of its capabilities. I often find myself using it to generate textures or troubleshoot code. I'm not sure what technical burden this puts on hardware, if any, but I figure it was worth mentioning.
  3. App Development- At some point I would like to work on developing a few ideas I have. The apps themselves would be fairly simple mobile applications, but this is more of aa hobby than anything.
  4. Gaming- This is my lowest priority, but I do play some popular games (Apex, Rocket League, Helldivers, Rust, etc.). I'm not a gamer though; I don't stream or use mods, and am not interested in 420 fps. I have a PS5, so it isn't a dealbreaker, but if a few extra $$$ would make me never buy a console again, it's worth it.

Some things that I don't know if they matter but I will say them anyways are:

  • If all goes well, I would likely upgrade keep making my workflow more efficient.
  • I know nothing about which OS is better. I am migrating from Apple so I have no opinions.
  • I use one monitor, but I might run two because I usually use my iPad to play music/video while I work.
  • I also use my iPad for digital drawing but may opt for a Wacom-type Tablet.
  • If aesthetics cost extra, I don't care that much, but something all black would be cool.

Thank you for the help!

Laptop for architecture

Last year architecture student here with not much knowledge in pc/laptop building. I was thinking on just buying an M3 MacBookAir, but my friends told be that I should consider other options as well. I would use it mostly for Archicad/PhotoShop/and some unity scene rendering (Twinmotion). I need a laptop that can perform these tasks for me for at least 4-5 years with ease. So use my budget wisely. I am not super strict that it has to be a laptop it could be a mini/ultra portable pc(but as far as I know a laptop would be a better choice performance/price wise). Pls help me out a bit

Microcenter bundle

Micro center has an i7 13700k bundle with the msi z790p pro and some ddr5 6000 cl 32. Somebody had told me that 6400 would get the best out of the chip. Is 6000 cl 32 good?

Console gamer looking to switch to pc for competitive cod

Hello, Looking to get max FPS on cod as that is all I play. Ideally specs that are better than Xbox so more than 120fps. I have a monitor that supports 1440p 165hz. I would look into getting 1080p gaming if I could get a high fps rig. I’m a little dull when it comes to parts. Thank you!

Need help with PC build. $1800 max.

Hi, I am new to building PCs and I am looking for a gaming/astrophotography computer.   I figure the gaming side of it will cover the astrophotography.  I am going to utilize the computer more in 2-4 years for astrophotography and will need to have around 128GB ram and 4 – 8 K resolution upgradability by then.  I have always had an Intel computer and I have seen most builds suggested is Ryzen.  I do not know anything about Ryzen but if you can convince me then I am open for anything.  My budget is no more than $1800. I am not really interested in RGB lighting so I do not need that added expense.  I would like a liquid cooled CPU but not a deal breaker.  The most graphic heavy game would be Microsoft Flight Simulator, the other games would be less heavy.  I would be doing VR also, so a DisplayPort is needed.  I would like to have a GeForce RTX 4070 Super 12GB graphics card or higher.  I do not live close to a microcenter and I would like to start this build sooner than later.

Thank you for your help.

Gaming PC around £900 - £1100

Hey, so I want to build my very first PC to mainly play games such as Sims 4 (with reshade), Minecraft, Overwatch, Valorant etc. I would like to eventually stream or maybe even edit videos as well. I would prefer if the PC had some longevity as well and maybe the ability to be upgradable.

My budget is around £800-1100 but it can be pushed to £1200 as I have a part time job so I don't mind splurging a bit (just not immediately as I still need to get paid lol)

~$1300 AUD PC Build

Hi all, I built my own PC system about 3 years ago for the first time (3060ti, 5600x etc). Recently my friend has asked if I could build him a system. I came up with this for around $1300 Australian dollars.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sxvG4M

Please let me know if there any any incompatibiltiies (pcpartpicker says there arent, however they don't check for cpu cooler clearance against ram)

If there are any cpu coolers you know are compatible please let me know, black with RGB preferred.

Looking for general thoughts on this build nonetheless.

Thanks!

$400-600 dollar build to go with an already acquired 4060 ti

Good day!

I've recently acquired a second-hand 4060ti for free but am using it in a 9 year old rig with a I7-3770 and only pcie 3.0 slots on my motherboard. Can anyone recommend a build that's little more recent and a little future proof to slot my new GPU into. I don't live near a microcenter and am in the US. I'm really hoping to build as close to $400 bucks as possible but am willing to go up to $600 if needed. I typically play World of Warcraft and older games after they go on sale a few years later lol.
