Question about editing AnkiHub MCAT deck & updates

Hi everyone! I have a couple of questions about using the Anking/AnkiHub MCAT deck with the AnKing add-on.

  1. If I add my own cards to the deck, will they be affected when the deck updates through AnkiHub add-on?
  2. I also make minor edits to existing cards to better suit my learning. Will these changes be overwritten when the deck is updated?

Additionally, I'm going through the deck using Kaplan chapters (unsuspending cards as I go) and noticed that some cards tagged under certain chapters aren’t actually placed in their corresponding subdeck (e.g., a card tagged as Kaplan Biology Chapter 1 wasn’t in the Biology subdeck). I reorganized some cards to match their chapters - would future updates override these changes?

Would really appreciate any insight on this. Thanks!

When should I start doing uworld?

I'm almost certain this question has been asked before. I can't find the thread. When i should start doing Uworld? I am half way thru content review. Exam scheduled for June. I am confused to whether should I incorporate Uworld into my content review or used it solely for practice and reinforcement. Can I get some guidance here?

UWorld Add On for ANKIng Deck

I'm not sure if this is new, but I recently discovered this add on that saves me so much time reviewing UWorld Questions.

In order to get this to work, you must be subscribed to AnkiHub to have access to their latest MCAT deck. This is because this deck is already tagged with specific UWorld questions as the cards are associated with specific UWorld question IDs.

Strategy

I start out by suspending all the decks on the ANKIng deck. Then, I go through each question ID where I either got the question wrong or I guessed/didn't have a strong foundation on the concept. Then I would use the add on to look up each UWorld Question ID and then unsuspend the related cards.

*Disclaimers:

- Some UWorld questions are NOT tagged and won't have an associated card on the ANKIng Deck

- To access the latest deck, you do need to be subscribed. The cheapest option is paying $6 a month to be subscribed.

- The cards you will see are basic content review. They aren't specific to the question or associated passage. But instead is related to the basic concept you need to understand in order to answer the question.

- I would still highly recommend analyzing UWorld questions and asking yourself why you got the question wrong. If the reason why you got the question wrong is more on passage analysis, the basic concept ANKI cards won't help as much.

Overall, this is a useful tool if you are starting out on UWorld and trying to apply content review while studying AND/OR you are subscribed to the AnkiHub, ANKIng Deck. Again, this is a strategy and might not work with your studying style!

Are there any ANKI MCAT decks of the sciences that are separated by AAMC content categories?

I know Mr. Pankow deck is divided by the AAMC categories (6A, 6B, etc), but this deck is for Psych/Soc only :/

Having ANKI decks divided this way is so helpful with closing my content gaps but it takes so much time to try to separate them on my own. Anyone have any decks that are already divided up this way for the sciences? For reference, I'm over halfway through MileDown but looking for a deck that's a bit more comprehensive in the contents I would like to fill.

Thank you in advance!!!!

Need help getting started

Hi,

My MCAT is in September and I'm getting started with studying now. I just learned what Anki is and I'm not sure what the best way to get started using it is. What decks do I use? What are the best settings? I'm shooting for a 520+ so any advice related to studying to achieve that would be most helpful. Thanks!

anking v11

hi! I just downloaded the anking v11 deck but I'm confused how to organize it by the Kaplan chapters. it doesn't seem to be in the tags or the sections within the deck...is there a way to do this?

also, I noticed that the anking v2 is organized by Kaplan chapters in the tags but I'm unsure if this version is too outdated?

Confirming this is working

I have been using ANKI for the best 6 weeks or so, usually about 50 new cards per day. I usually have about 160 total cards to review each day, 40ish new, 40ish review, and 80-90 due. I'm using FSRS and just wondering if the amount of due cards are lower than they should be. I have reviews set to 9999 but have only ever been above 90 green cards if I miss a day.

Anking setting mess up/only 1 new card allowed a day?

Seeing if anyone else has this issue…every new day my deck will only allow one new learning card per day, not a hard fix but is just annoying because it resets every day. Some decks only allow 0 new per day and some 1 new per day. Is there a way to fix this without resetting the settings every day?

Using the AnKing deck!

Printing Anking Decks?

Hello all, I have a question about printing Anking decks. The job that I work at does not allow you to have phone on your person during the day, so I need a way of converting Anking decks to flashcards.

I was previously using a free MCAT anki deck and an anki add-on to print. This worked fine, but with the Anking decks every flashcard has a huge anki logo with a crown on it. Is there any way to circumvent this so I don't use up every ounce of ink and paper in a 5 mile radius?

Settings are messed up, please help!!

So I just finished reviewing the biochem section of the Anking V2 deck and everything was great. But now when I untoggle any other section, all my times get messed up. I tried playing around with my settings and I think I screwed it up even more. I want to have it as:

  • again: 10 mins
  • hard: 15 mins
  • good: 3/4 days
  • easy: 7-9 days

I’ve always had FSRS on but I don’t understand what it does. If someone could please help me that would be greatly appreciated <3

does anyone have the AnkiKing smokeweedplease deck?

hi! I'm a pre-med trying to get started on reviewing for the MCAT. I've heard that the AnkiKing deck is good but when I tried to download it, it wouldn't work and not all of the media elements were there. if anyone has the above deck, or recommends an alternative deck I would be very grateful.

Pankows deck W/ 300 page doc

How am I supposed to organize using the 300 page doc with the pankow cards? I like how JS is organized by chapter of Kaplan books, So i usually just unsuspend whatever chapter i just read, but now i have no idea what to do with pankow. Some of the sections like 7A are almost 700 cards and it seems impossibly to not split that up to do for different days. I only wanted to read like 30-40 pages a day and do the anki cards for that, but i have no idea if that’s even possible.

Orgo structures

Hi! I’m studying orgo right now and am using the Milesdown deck in addition to the Kaplan books. The Milesdown deck has a lot of cards that ask about recognizing the structures of seemingly random molecules, such as acrolein, acetylacetone, styrene, etc. Do these molecules actually come up, and do we need to know them? In general, which chemical structures do we need to know/memorize for the mcat (especially from orgo)? Thanks!

Kaplan 6 Month On Demand Course Helpppp

Hi everyone! Here's some context of myself: I'm a junior, pre-med, 3.76cGPA, a lot of research experience (2 publications thus far), & I go to a pretty competitive public college. I'm taking Orgo 2 this semester and really need to focus on getting solid grades. However, I won the Kaplan 6 Month On Demand Course through one of my clubs and was required to start it last week. It started off with having me take the AAMC 1 and I got a 484... I know very bad :/

Originally, I wasn't even planning to start MCAT studying until next year as I was planning to take a gap year to get some clinical experience- so it has been very daunting for me. I really don't enjoy how the prep is set up as most of the content seems new to me and I was wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to utilize this course. I figured pairing it with Anki or something would help... but I honestly have no knowledge of MCAT prep and feel very underprepared to start and would love if someone could give me some advice to a solid plan. I'm an extremely competitive person and want to do well on this test, I just need some help with starting off.

Kaplan Videos vs. Textbook

I'm an extremely slow reader, and it can take me 3-4 hours to read a Kaplan chapter. Then, I use the Jack Sparrow deck to review and memorize. I recently found Professor Eman and Yusuf Hasan on YouTube who cover the Kaplan chapters. Is it sufficient to watch videos, rather than read the textbook, followed by flashcards? Is watching the videos as effective as reading the textbook?

Unsuspending certain topics in AnKing - MCAT deck

Hello! Sorry if this has already been asked but I couldn't find an answer anywhere online. As I go through the Kaplan books, for example, right now I'm reading through the ochem one, I want to unsuspend certain topics within all of the ochem cards on Anki. I just covered the isomer chapter yesterday so now I am wanting to cover cards about isomers but i have no idea where I can find these subcategoreis. I'm only seeing ochem, physics, biochem etc but nothing more specific than that.

This is what I am looking at right now:

I see that each flashcard is flagged with what topics it covers but I have no idea how to find these flags. I would really appreciate any help :)

Do you do a first pass for your anki cards?

Meaning, anyone else click “again” on their first pass of new anki cards even though your already know the answer?

  • it’s something I’ve always done just because I’m superstitious/ have a fear that I won’t remember a card as well or I’ll forget it if I click “good” the first time I see it even though I know it.
  • I began using the default FSRS and 1 month ago and I just optimized it yesterday and I feel like this especially applies now.
  • my retention was ~97% with my desired retention set to .95, which is great of course, but I felt like I saw the cards too often and it would create a massive pile up of ~400 cards a day which would eat up a lot of my time.
  • now that I optimized my FSRS, I feel like now the spacing is too much between how often I see a card again?
  • for example, if I clicked “good” on a specific card 2 days in a row from including first time I see it, it’ll make it so the third time I see that card will show up 9 days later, which seems like a super long time which makes me doubt if I’ll even remember it by then. If I press “again” on my first pass, it’ll make it so that I see the card 4 days later after my 2nd time seeing it.

(Just to reiterate; my intervals currently look like 1 day, 1 day, 9 days if I press “good” every time; or 1 day, 1 day, 4 days, if I press “again” on my first time seeing the card and “good” after that)

  • should I trust the algorithm and keep pressing “good” on all the new cards that I know? Or is it a good idea to click “again” on the first pass of every card regardless of if I already know it?

Adding Cards to Separate Deck not coming up

Hello all, I am currently studying for my MCAT using the Anking deck, I recently wanted to take the amino acid, equations, and unit conversions cards and put them in their own deck so I can study those daily. When I moved them to their own deck they show that they are in there but I am unable to study them as when I click on it it says the message "Congrats you have finished studying!" Any idea why this might be the case?

Watch Videos While Reading Kaplan or Doing Anki?

I'm just starting to go through Kaplan books for content review and using the Jack Sparrow deck. I plan to read a couple of chapters and unsuspend the corresponding flashcards. As I read, there are concepts I do not completely understand. I want to watch videos (Khan Academy) to clarify these ideas. Is it recommended to watch videos as I read through Kaplan or as I do Anki?

How many anki reviews is the right amount of reviews?

I am doing the AnKing deck and it had gotten to be where I have 400-500 Review per day. I don't test until May. Is this way too many? If so any advice? I have been doing two Kaplan chapters a day with a section of P/S included from KA
