Weasels are to Dogs as Mongooses are to Cats

Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but here are the facts:

  1. Mongooses and Hyenas are both more akin to cats than Weasels and Wolverines.

  2. Mongooses are outlawed in the U.S. because of their extreme capabilities of killing all small animals. Mongooses, like cats, hunt in packs and form familial groups.

  3. Weasels are largely solitary animals, as are Wolverines, but are extremely capable of obtaining food.

Given these comparisons, it's my belief that the main reason Mongooses are outlawed in the US is because of their affinity to cats and ability to work as a team to eliminate areas of food for other animals. I'm quite aware that Hawaii is infested with these creatures, and as a result, the ban is in place. This being said, it's truly an amazing animal.

My best comparison of the dog and cat type predators is the Hyena for cat and Wolverine for dog, or, the Weasel for dog and the Mongoose for cat. Both groups are highly similar, yet completely different too. I'm happy to know that the US prefers dog-like predators over cat-like ones.

Wolverines as pets?

Can you keep Wolverines as pets at all in some countries?

I mean of course you could in some parts of Africa, most of the Arctic and virtually all of Antarctica but........... can you have them as pets in the U.S?

I'd like to see how intelligent they are. Maybe I'll even do the mirror test. However............. it would also be nice to have a companion. I'd start off slowly with the Wolverine............. don't give it any attention and don't approach it.......... wait for it to approach me. I've always wanted to go hunting with a friend so I thought that a Wolverine can do it. Not that it can use a gun or anything but they are extremely ferocious and have those deadly canine teeth and sharp claws and............. well, you know. That determination.

Also it'd be great to raise them and train them to............. well.............. I'd start off by attempting to train them to make use of wood............... to sharpen wooden sticks with their teeth! Then they wouldn't really need to go in for the prey. And I'd see how it goes from there.

I'd be careful though................ I'm not scared of them but it's good to be careful............ if they bite you somewhere vital then it's game over. A Beaver bit a guy in that vein under his knee and it was game over.
