Looks like this album was reissued last week! Available at the link above, also a couple of copies on discogs.com.
Just realized it's on the physical release but not the digital, I assume Coldplay has something to do with it?
Obviously Looks like rain by Mickey Newbury was a pretty groundbreaking album at the time and influential for a lot of country musicians like waylon, townes, guy clark, etc. However it's not really mentioned in Willie's story as an influence at all. In Patoski's biography of willie, Newbury is only mentioned once and it's because willie chased him off his farm with a shotgun after newbury asked for his teenage daughters hand in marriage. Maybe that beef was never resolved. In the song luckenbach texas willie also changes the lyrics from "newburys train songs" to "jerry jeffs train songs."
I find it odd because I think yesterdays wine sounds a little bit like Rain especially the medley and seasonal tracks. Willie has said that yesterdays wine is the first country concept album but Rain came out first and was a concept album.
i love both albums, but am a much bigger fan of YW. However just find it weird there's not really any credit to Newbury in Willie's arc. Maybe he wasn't an influence at all, but curious if anyone has any takes on this?
May be a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any recordings or audio from the gorge show a few months back. There are some videos on YouTube, but just curious if there’s any more out there
My personal favorite is whiskey river but I’d love to know what your guys favorite is
I'm curious how people would rank willie's 60s albums?
Excluding ...And then i wrote because i just think that's on another level my personal list is:
1 Country Favorites
2 Good times
3 TX in my soul
4 Live country music concert
5 My own peculiar way
6 Make way for willie
7 Here's willie
8 Willie's favorites country style
9 Party's Over
Willie I love you.
I’ve just done my first listen; amazing album. Very interesting. Totally different from any other Willie Nelson album. I think you’ve got to go back to Heroes or Teatro to compare the quality of songs and overall sound.
Also, let the last song play out for the hidden track.
I'm singing at my partner's grandma's funeral next week, and she was a huge Willie Nelson fan. After some research, my top contenders are I'm Going to Live Forever, Last Leaf, and Summer of Roses. As Willie experts, are there any others you recomend?
Angel Flying too Close to the Ground
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
I Still Can’t Believe You’re Gone
Summer of Roses
Something You Get Through
The Last Leaf on the Tree
I’m Going to Live Forever
Just Breathe
Pls share ur thoughts on this cover, be honest with ur opinions, good or bad. https://youtu.be/aUIYh_N73A8?si=C9jCpvBv6C0peb9x
They claim he's losing his mind, is senile and probably a pedophile now, wondering if he was ever at a "diddy party".
Literally had to endure eight women ranting about this all night long, while claiming they used to he his "biggest fans". His political leanings were never even a secret lmao
not sure if anyone is familiar with this album, but covered it yesterday as part of my show. It was ranked Willie's 79th "best" album by TX monthly and has a pretty bad reputation from what i can tell, but i was very pleasantly surprised.
The 6 song stretch from I just don't understand to Natural to be Gone is fantastic. I let my mind wander might be one of my favorite Willie songs. It's also the debut of Trigger which gives a chunk of the album that's not drowned out by the nashville sound this nice country folk vibe. It's not a perfect album by any means, but it's worth listening to. I go into a lot more detail on the show which is just armadillo club on spotify.
Curious if other people have thoughts on this album?
