It’s been a month since I’ve had the shot. I got this for alcohol but now I am having bad back pains and wanted to know if it was safe for me to take a pain med with opioid in it?

Question about exercise on Vivitrol

I’m 3 weeks into my first shot. Didn’t really notice the side effects of lethargy or depression that could contribute to what I’m experiencing now. My workouts are terrible. I used to be able to run 10 miles hungover and just struggled to run 3, stoping multiple times to rest. Feel like I have no energy to workout specifically. No endurance. Fitness is really important to me and one of the things I was looking forward to regaining in sobriety. Tbh I’m not even sure if it’s the vivitrol or antidepressant that’s contributing to my sudden lack of cravings, since I started both around the same time, and am thinking of stopping the Viv. Anyone else experience something similar?

Extremely confused about price.

Alright I’m just completely lost about pricing. The shot seems to cost at least 1000$ usually for people without insurance. The co pay saving program card covers up to 500 a month. However I keep seeing stats that say 91~% people that use this card pay ZERO out of pocket. The card can’t be used for almost everyone with insurance either. So can someone PLEASE EXPLAIN or even attempt to? Is the percentage a lie? Is there a way to make it not at least 1000$ like every website ever says? So lost. Someone please help.

Depressed mood

Has anyone experienced depression as a side effect? Last month I noticed I was having a really hard time getting things done at work and my bedroom was always a mess. This second month it’s gotten worse with tearfulness and sleeping too much. This didn’t happen with the oral naltrexone dose. Curious how people navigated these feelings of apathy and sadness. It’s actually quite scary.

Tips and tricks?

I got my third injection about 2 weeks ago. Until this one I hadn't had any issues (I had mild soreness but nothing crazy). I am really struggling this time. The injection site is super hard, swollen, and painful. I've tried massaging it (that sucked), I've tried an ice pack (seemed to help temporarily). Honestly if this happens every time I get the injection, it is not worth the pain I'm in. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this suck less?

Guys I have a question please help me

I have taken Naltrexone pill 50mg and 25 mg I have had horrible side effects like nausea drowsiness and stomach problems I have heard that vivitrol shot works better than the pill that is more tolerated and some people have even had zero side effects that it doesn’t make you sick just pain or a bump in the butt should I try the vivitrol shot for alcohol cravings? Please if anyone have taken vivitrol shot and pill please tell me your experience on both of them.

Little bit nervous but I want to take the shot instead of taking pills

Long term side effects of vivitrol

Has anyone heard of long-term side effects of vivitrol where the glute muscles develop scar tissue? Was on vivies for 3.5 yrs. Been off since 2016/2017. Now have a condition called sacroiliitis where the muscles in my glutes and in my hip flexor are so tight they are separating my bones at the sacroiliac joint. Insanely painful. When it gets strained, I can't walk for days. Mimics symptoms of sciatica and feels like I am always pulling my lower back out.

Vivitrol wait time after multiple shots.

Because I know someone will have this question in the future I am here to give my experience.

If you use around the day 23+ mark you will be able to get high wont be as strong as it normally is but you can definitely feel it (blue 30’s). I have used and then gotten shot within 48 hours and I know I still had fent in my system but the shot went fine and I had no precipitated Withdrawl. I believe this is because there is still some naltrexone in your system from the previous month injection meaning you won’t go into Withdrawl. Have talked to a few friends and they said the same thing about using within 48 hours of the shot and being fine. Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Just got my first shot

Yall….i had a BAD experience with naltrexone (side effects) and was terrified of getting the shot.

First of all, the woman who administered it was a fkn PRO. Didn’t feel a thing.

It’s been one hour and zero side effects! Was freaking out for nothing! Sad I didn’t do this years ago. We’ll see about alcohol cravings. Had a thought to “test” the shot with a glass of Prosecco so came to a meeting.

But guys honestly cried happy tears on the way here. The pills made me tired, nauseous, headachy, racing heart. Took 1/4 of a pill and slept for almost 48 hours, that happened twice. But with the shot, NOTHING!!!! I feel great!!!

If you’re on the fence about getting it, try it! What I thought was, how can any side effects be worse than the way I’m poisoning myself and imploding my life currently.

Trying to get my girlfriend on vivitrol need help

My girlfriend is bipolar and is a great person but turns violent and a terrible person even when she drinks just one drink. She has agreed to get on the shot. But I was just wondering how many days abstinent from alcohol does she have to be to get the shot? She drinks everyday or every other day and only at night. 2-3 white claws. I was just wondering if she would have any complications if she got the shot and there was alcohol still in her system. If so how many days from alcohol does she have to be abstinent from in order for the shot to go normally.

Dulls other drugs too?

Hi! Just started injections after trying pills for a few months. I haven’t been able to figure out if naltrexone dulls the effects of these drugs

  1. Mushrooms
  2. Acid
  3. Ketamine
  4. Marijuana
  5. MDMA

anyone know?

Hello!

I go in two hours to get my first shot. I was pretty sick on the naltraxone but I am currently freaking out about the actual injection. Can anyone share how painful it was? I have a fear of needles.

Friend got first injection yesterday and drank pretty immediately afterwards, craving one last binge before the med takes it away. Advice/experience with similar?

Like title says, my friend visited a MAT yesterday and had his first vivitrol injection. After I left him to come home he went out and purchased a bottle of hard liquor and consumed much of it, with plans to finish it today. This was intended as one last hoorah with booze before the medication sets in. He was certainly feeling it and the booze was impacting him just like it always has. He started drinking 6-7 hours after his injection. He hadn’t drank for a week prior.

He’s previously taken naltrexone and felt it didn’t help at all but admits he wasn’t super regular with his dosing.

He obviously needs to start with a therapist and/or in an IOP, which is the plan for this coming week before he follows up with the MAT a week post-injection.

He’s very open and honest and won’t lie about what he’s done, but have any of you binged right after starting vivitrol and gone on to have it still work for you?

Withdrawal from 2 years injections?

I’ve been on the shot for a little less than 2 years. Last shot was in May, so it’s been about 2 months now that I’ve been off. I noticed some out of the ordinary symptoms since stopping- I’ve been getting restless legs at bedtime for a month now. I will also experience random GI upset & diarrhea. Anyone else have similar experiences? Not sure if this can be attributed to vivitrol or something else going on. Thank you!

Paperwork with confirmation

Hello,

I recently received my first shot however I haven’t received any paperwork or proof other than ordering the medication. My PCP isn’t being entirely cooperative with providing me with documentation. I would like to have something I can show my family that I got the shot. Has anyone else had this issue? Would anyone be willing to show me an example if they have been provided with documentation? Thanks in advance

Got my first shot

I wish I would have known about this years ago, my life would look much different right now! However, I do love what I have right now and wouldn’t change it for anything! I am on day 4 and still dealing with some side effects but I am hoping it will even out in a few days! All I care about is, I have 0 desire to drink! I could not be happier!

Nausea on Vivitrol

Hello. I’m posting here on behalf of my husband. He left detox for alcohol on 5/3. That was the day they administered the shot. He’s been nauseous every day since. Barely eating. Zofran and Reglan are not working. Is this a common side effect?

Thank you so much in advance.

Getting off vivitrol

Okay I have questions for anyone who's gotten off of it, I was on it for 2 years and about a month ago stopped cold turkey but now I'm having such terrible stomach issues I feel so sick to my stomach everyday and it's not getting any better. I know since I was on it for 2 years it's gonna take awhile to recover but have any of you gotten off of it and felt any type of withdrawal symptoms? Please helpppp lol. 🙃

Relapsed briefly getting back on 9 days later?

I’ve had many injections over the years. This time after my first injection my shot was delayed and I used opiates and and going through a little bit of detox (mainly anxiety insomnia and goosebumps) not puking/shitting etc

My shot is scheduled and will be 9 days oxy free. Am I in for a rough time or is that enough time even if I still don’t feel like “that great”?

I have naltrexone pills and naloxone nasal…thinking maybe on day 7 I should take a tiny piece or naltrexone and work my way up to atleast half a pill day 7 and 8 and shot on 9th or do a naloxone test but that is a bit scary

Vivitrol’s Effects on Brain Function

I was detoxed at a facility and then underwent 6 months of the vivitrol implant that was put into my skin. I have been trying to do research about the long term effects of the drug but also what it does to the brain. Specifically with the function of the orbital lobe. Thank you

Pain

I finally got the shot after 10 days on naltaxone. That was Wednesday around 10pm. It’s now 7:15 Sunday. I’ve had a limp for the last two days from the injection site. It does feel a little warmer than the surrounding area. When should I worry?

What happened to me when i drank on vivtrol

I'm on my first injection.. was taking naltrexone tablet before this . I found one or two drinks to be ok ..but when your a alcoholic there really is no such thing as one or two drinks... SO. I attempted to be my usual alcoholic self. .. which didn't work out so well .. i ended up vomiting hard both times and after basically passing out. Awoke to a god awful hangover similar to one you would experience as a youngin .. so if you really want the full effect .. go ahead and try and get drunk on this shit.. i feel between those couple of bad experiences in combination with a lowered desire to drink.. it is beginning to work.. as a treatment

It works for me

(Disclaimer, I have monthly injections for Severe Alcoholism) Wanted to post an update as I’ve gotten the injection a total of 3 times now in my booty cheeks. I made a post when I first got the shot about how it made me incredibly depressed and sluggish for a week and some change. Since then I haven’t had any feeling of depression associated with the drug and the only side effect I’ve been getting is the pain from that thick ass shot. I haven’t even gone as far as look at alcohol since and I’m really not sure how that works.

Restless legs?

Anyone else have problems with anything like restless legs after taking vivitrol? My husband has never had any problem like this before taking it. It only happens at night and it's not just his legs but his arms, hands, and abs., etc. Within 15 minutes of going to sleep his muscles start randomly jerking. Usually lasts about 30 minutes or so. Anyone else have any experience like this?
