I thrifted these two beautiful beaded 1950s(?) handbags during the week. The larger one has a broken zip so I need to come up with a new option to close it. Because of the beading it seems impossible to insert a new zipper.
I am thinking about removing the old zip and adding a magnetic snap closure instead. Has anyone done anything similar and have any tips or suggestions on how to do this, and where to source a sew on magnetic closure?
Edited to add that I live in Australia.
Hey everyone! I’m designing my prom dress and want to refine the structure and details. I’m going for an Old Hollywood vintage glam vibe inspired by Pamela Anderson, Marilyn Monroe, and Sharon Tate. Some key features I absolutely want to include are: • Plunging halter neckline with a string connecting the center • Open back • High slit (negotiable) I’d love advice on: • The best way to structure the bodice for support • Fabrics that will drape beautifully but still hold shape • Any details that could enhance the vintage glam look • Construction tips to make sure it fits and flows well
I attached my inspo/mood board to show the look I’m going for. Any feedback is super appreciated!
Hi! I just discovered my cat peed on my vintage down vest. The vest is dry clean only. Do dry cleaners take peed-on items? Will dry cleaning get rid of stain and smell? Thanks!
Recently was gifted some US army 1990s Battle Dress Uniforms. What patches/parts do I have to remove to wear them out in public? The person who gave them to me told me to remove the insignia but I'm not actually sure which part that is and if there's anything else I should remove. I can post photos if that is helpful. Thanks!
this 1940s Lilli Anne blazer is the only designer item in my vintage collection and i tried to sell it but it didn’t work. i’d love to be able to work it so i can fit it, it’s probably no more than 2 sizes too big but the biggest problem is the shoulders are too broad for me. should i keep trying to sell it or try to fix it to fit me?
I know this might be a little too historical and our of scope for this sub, but I need to know: does anyone have experience wearing/using a chatelaine for more than a photoshoot? Specifically for a full work day moving around and doing things?
I love how they look, and would love to try one out at work, but I'm concerned that the length of the chains would lead to them swinging around and hitting things constantly, getting tangled in each-other, and just generally being more of a nuisance than anything else. Especially since I don't wear skirts so it would be under more movement-stress than if I were wearing layers of petticoats and wool.
