Can I transfer a Mississippi concealed permit to virginia for less costs than getting a new CHP for virginia?

A friend is planning to move to VA from MS within the next 3 years, is it possible to just transfer a CHP or do they have to pay fully for a new background check and all?

GreenTop Expo?

Did anyone happen to swing by for the Thursday TruckLoad Sale? Just wondering how the prices were. Last year wasn't bad, but I couldn't make it this year.

Best FFL to ship a handgun in nova

I’m considering selling a handgun on GB and shipping is always a pain with handguns. I’d prefer to ship through an FFL. Anyone have recommendations in NoVa?

Carry gun laws in our area

I find myself worried about the spots I can or can’t carry in our area, especially with the different areas and jurisdictions.. not only between state lines (with MD and even DC) but even with different counties in our state.

I attended multiple related trainings and subscribed to VCDl but I still don’t feel comfortable with my knowledge.

What other avenues would you suggest for me to level up my knowledge on this topic? I considered paying a lawyer to give me a summarized version for dummies kind of thing…. But I want to leave this as a last report since money is tight.

EDIT ; re: some counties have different rules; this url unpacks those rules at the end of this page under “notes” https://vcdl.org/page/virginia-carry-information

Can I shoot a Nuisance Animal?

Per Virginia Code 29.1-517 it states that I may shoot an animal if it is a nuisance or a threat. I have a bear that comes around almost nightly. It gets on top of my truck bed looking for food. I live on a 1/2 acre lot in Warren County and I am wondering if there is any trouble I could get in if I go ahead and take the shot. I would obviously take all proper safety precautions and there is a hill that would be behind the animal when I go to shoot it.

Gun Stores for Women / POC

I’d like to purchase for the first time but it’s a little intimidating for me as a smaller Asian woman.

Are there any shops in the NoVa area that would be welcoming to all types of buyers?

Edit: based on some DMs I’ve received, seems like I’ve ruffled some ❄️❄️❄️ feathers with this question, but I’m leaving this thread up for anybody else looking for the same thing.

thank you for the suggestions, I think I’ll head to XCal.

[Review] Outdoor Access: Sycamore Grove

Recently rented out Sycamore Grove Range on OA for a weekend a few weeks ago. This will be a short and sweet review. I have nothing but excellent things to say about the property. The fact that a berm was in place made me feel way more comfortable about shooting. It is a nice open plot with about 100 yards in depth and 20-30 yards of width. I brought all of my own steel and paper targets to shoot. What made the experience even better was the fact that there was a VTAC barrier already there for use. I was able to run multiple static drills and dynamic drills up to 100 yards. There is a spot across the sketchy bridge, up in the brush where I was able to shoot at 225 yards. It is a very gorgeous location especially being located right on the water (lake). After a full day of shooting, we decided to set up camp by the dedicated fire pit. Had a nice quiet night that made for a great sleep after an eventful day.

Since it was Mid-September, the mosquitos weren't too bad, but still present. I wore pants and a tank top and only ended up with 3 or 4 mosquito bites when I would usually end up with 20 on a normal summer day. I did find one tick crawling on me but thats not bad considering the tall grass I was walking through all day. I will say the daddy long leg spiders are ridiculous lol. Im not sure if it was breeding season for them but they were everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean that every time you looked around, you were probably within 5' of that spider, if it wasn't already crawling on you.

Overall, a fantastic experience and definitely look forward to revisiting the property again. Next time around I would defineitly bring a kayak and some fishing rods just to throw into the lake for fun. I have visited this property and The Purdie Farms before for an entire day of shooting and camping overnight thanks to Outdoor Access. If you have any suggestions/recommendations for different properties that are just as good and allow for the same activities, PLEASE Share them down in the comments!!!

CCW for military

Greetings all, I'm stationed in VA and have a few questions about getting a CCW.

  1. If my home of record is out of state, would i need to apply for a non-resident permit (my driver's license is out of state and i pay income tax to a different state)?

  2. Do i need any licensing to own a handgun or just to carry it?

  3. Is it legal to open carry a handgun w/out a ccw?

  4. Do i need to take a safety course to get a CCW?

CCW allowed at events like Mosaic Fall Festival?

Title says it all, VCDL says no prohibition on permitted events in Fairfax City, but there is in Fairfax County. Very confusing.

Private ranges for rent?

Does anyone have a lead on private ranges that can be rented out for small groups? I'm aware of Outdoor Access but the ranges are almost all booked months in advance. Any help is appreciated.

Anybody shooting 300+ this weekend and willing to sponsor a guest?

I’ve never shot that far, but I have this fun savage 10 in .223 and I want to give it a shot. Anyone willing to help me out? I’m in Arlington, but I don’t mind a drive. Especially a drive out west where it might be dryer.

Traveling

Does anyone know the exact new gun laws for South Carolina. I’m traveling to South Carolina coming up. I don’t have my concealed carry license, but in North Carolina you can open carry without a ccl even if you live in Virginia. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated

A Beginner Asking Questions

Can I(19 years old) go to a gun range to learn about firearms and get to shoot some without having any pre requisite licenses or whatever is needed(idk what’s needed), I’ve never been a big fan of guns but after watching a bunch of movies I’m now convinced I need one for self defense purposes, to be more specific home self defense. Also if not can someone explain what the steps are to be able to own one, I know I can’t buy a handgun until 21, but I’d like to know now so I’m ready at 21. Springfield,VA

Assault on a family member and owning guns?

I'll try to make it short. 10+ years ago Friend 1's wife tried to stop him from driving drunk and he hit her with the car door trying to leave. Convicted of misdemeanor assault on family member. Law Says :prohibited from purchasing, possessing, or transporting a firearm for three years following the date of the conviction at which point the person convicted of such offense shall no longer be prohibited from purchasing, possessing, or transporting a firearm.

Law also says: Since the effective date of the federal gun law, September 30, 1996, any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence may no longer possess a firearm or ammunition.

He called VSP, they said "you should be fine."

Friend 2 "forgot" about an order to treatment for alcohol and was arrested trying to buy a gun. Had it expunged, current ccp and gun owner.

Friend 1 however would not like to spend a night in jail, and doesn't have money to pay a lawyer.

We're both confused because it seems like one law says he can own guns and one says he can't.

CCW & MMJ

I was in a car accident, broke my leg and have been given a lengthy recovery time, I rather not take the pills they gave me and am interesting in medical cannabis for pain relief. I have my VA CCW, in order to obtain medical cannabis, I must obtain a MMJ card. My question is this:

A) If I obtain an MMJ card will the state revoke my CCW card?

B) If they do not revoke the CCW card, will they ask me to hand over my firearms to them?

C) If neither of that happens, what will happen when I go to renew my CCW? Will I get rejected for having had a MMJ card previously?

D) If none of that happens, what will happen when I purchase a new firearm and fill out the 4473FFL paperwork, will I get rejected for purchase and receive a felony on top of that?

Let me add on, I would not ever being carrying under the influence of cannabis, nor would they be in my possession both at the same time. I’m kinda bed ridden and not very mobile anyway, I’m not going to be doing much of anything for a while lol. I’m just worried that after the fact when this all heals, I won’t be able to conceal carry while Backpacking.

Questions about selling a rifle

THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION FOR SALE BUT A GENUINE ADVICE ASK FOR A NOVICE GUN OWNER

All, looking to offload my AR and have never sold a gun before. It's a Smith and Wesson M&P15 Sport II. Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated.

From other sell posts on here I see going through an FFL is obviously required, but how do you locate a reputable FFL? Walk into a local gun store?

What's the best way to value your gun? Is the Blue Book of Guns the best option similar to Kelly Blue Book for vehicles?

Once I'm able to value it, what's the common percentage hit off the "book price" that is common for gun sales of this type?

Can you sell ammo as well?

Looking to offload everything before moving overseas for a permanent job opportunity. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Going to college in VA out of state and want to purchase a lower

Hello everyone, as the title states, I’m going to college in Virginia but I have an out of state driver’s license. That being said, I’ve been going to college here for a while and have a lease agreement in Virginia, which is also my official address as per USPS and my bank. I’ve purchased an upper receiver so I would also like to purchase a lower, and ATF ruling 80-21 says I should be able to do so, but I don’t know exactly how that works. I am also 21 so legally allowed to purchase a lower, pistol, NFA items, etc. so that isn’t an issue. I would also not like to have to change over to a Virginia driver’s license because that’s a hassle and I would just need to change it for grad school assuming I go to another state for that too. What are my options?

Streamlight TL7-Sub Tip!

Here's a tip to save you a little money. You ever notice how TLR-7 subs have different prices for the 1913 model Hellcat, and Sig? And the model you need is either more expensive or never in stock. The lights are all the same the only difference is the clamps. Buy whatever model is the cheapest or is in stock then email Streamlight tell them that you brought the wrong model and that you need the clamps for whatever model yours is and they will send it out to you for free. I have done this twice and I always received them in less than a week.
