As the title says, do you have a portfolio that you utilize outside of Upwork to win work? If so, where did you get it from? Did you build it from scratch using a WordPress template or is there a service that use? How often do you send it to prospects? What are the benefits of having one outside of up work… trying to figure out how much effort/money spent on portfolio
If you're thinking about hiring a FlutterFlow developer on Upwork, learn from my experience. I recently worked with a freelancer named Muhammad, who called himself a FlutterFlow "expert." I hired him at $45 an hour, which is top dollar for a developer from Pakistan, expecting high-quality work in return. Instead, I got zero results, a lot of wasted time, and disrespect.
He initially promised to complete everything in 10 hours. I needed him to handle four straightforward tasks. After seeing no progress, I extended the contract to 40 hours, hoping he just needed a bit more time. Guess what? Not a single task was completed—not even 25%. Nothing. Every time I gave feedback, he’d argue, insisting I didn’t know what I was talking about and never taking accountability. He brushed off every concern, wasted my company’s time, and clearly had no interest in working anything out.
Then, the real kicker: he started bragging about all his other clients, saying he “didn’t need this job.” He even sent me screenshots of other clients' confidential info—hours worked, invoices, etc.—which was a huge red flag. It’s clear he was juggling my project with other clients, flexing about people spending $150 while completely neglecting a bigger opportunity with me. For reference, I checked, and my contract was almost 20% of his 2024 sales so far on Upwork (the dollar amounts are public; you can go verify).
When you’re paying top dollar, you expect top-notch work. Muhammad Adils gaslighting and excuses aren’t fooling anyone. Maybe he should focus less on juggling small clients and more on actually delivering quality work. Save yourself the headache, money, and frustration, and stay away from this so-called "expert."
I have been asked to re-verify ID twice after it was already confirmed once already. I was told my Council Tax statement was not proof of address. It takes 4 days to get back to me with each reply.
I've made multiple hires now not using Upwork.
My account creation was in July, I still do not have access to the ability to make a hire on Upwork.
Is this common or am I just unlucky?
I am an intermediate Freelancer & a social media marketing, and content writer with minimal start up graphics designer & I need a work
So as from my title above, I'm trying my best to get a work & sadly, it's kinda hard to get hired nowadays. My last job was in pogo but I find it not fit for me. So here are few experience;
Before I shift to freelancing & social media handling or work from home jobs, I started my career in Food Industry, I started as an apprenticeship in the kitchen, work my way up into a cook in different restaurants & went to kuwait. As pandemic hits, I was unemployed & went back home here manila as soon as I got the chances and started a small food business. and it wasn't enough for everyday needs since I have a daughter.
So I studied crypto, learn about web3 projects and started my first career as community manager & started my first finance tradings as well. and I kinda love it since it was work from home & I can work with just my phones. And I was hired again as a community manager again with filipino NFT project. It was an hybrid, I enjoyed it as well because I met a lot of people & expand my network in this new industry. Since then July 2023, the projects mess up & the company closed. I made a few clients from different countries, some responded to my portfolio but I find it risky. So I tried POGO industry as a social media marketing, but it ended to push me to find a players (POGO workers YKIFK) LOL
So since july I'm Unemployed again.
I hope for positive response from everyone & I will be grateful for your help & your networks. Godspeed everyone!
Everything on my UpWork available job listing even for people that have spent over 50k say "this feature is not available because client is suspended"
Is this a bug? Anyone else dealing with this right now or today?
Has anyone received payment from the large program projects? I did a large voice over project and was hired on in early September. Submitted over 3 hours of audio recordings and still haven’t been paid after the contract end date. Is this a scam?? They owe me $840! I’ve messaged the entire group chat multiple times and they have no info on payments.
When handling hourly projects, do you charge for rendering time, even when you’re just waiting for the render to complete? Each render can take 30-40 minutes. I’m preparing for an upcoming project and discussing terms before the contract. Should I let the client know they'll be charged for rendering time, or clarify that I'll only be billing for scene setup and not for the render time itself?
Guess Kam was not kind to Montega. Montega totally misread everything. Kam should know that's what you get when you pay $150 for days worth of work.
Title. Many fake fake clients, many many wasted connects and time. I mean, okay, they're increasing connects to remove inexperienced people out of the platform, but they completely ignoring fake clients.
When a new client contacts you via message, you cant see their project listing right? So how do you find out if they have been established, reviews, hire rate etc? If there is no way to know, how do you ask this politely and professionally before committing?
A potential client provided me details on what they wanted and asked me to provide examples how I would layout and design the work. I nicely stated that, if he hires me, they can discuss design options.
I feel I'm giving up time, energy and proprietary approach with this effort before getting paid. Am I wrong?
I do product design so the projects are just inherently long. Does it look bad? Sometimes there are delays out of my control. For example a hurricane or client funding.
I'm trying to hire software engineers from India or Pakistan to develop an MVP for a healthcare software product at a relatively cheap price. From what I understand, paying for even the top Indian software dev teams should be like, waaaay cheaper than an average US one just because the cost of living is somewher around 90% cheaper there.
I progressed with one firm, and what happened was this:
They sent me a great proposal, a ton of detail, we had good meetings, and then...they told me they needed to hire two people to complete this project, and gave me a price that was equivalent to Canadian prices.
When I asked them to justify this, they began explaining about how they'd build me 'custom' software for a lot of basic things where I interjected and explained they could just use pre-existing templates, which made them go quiet.
They were trying to pull the wool over my head using my lack of software experience but I wasn't quite as dumb as they thought. I have a budget, and told them that, and the price they gave me was conveniently just the top of my budget.
It's weird because they have a ton of earnings on the site so I wasn't expecting this blatantly scammy behaviour.
The others I've spoken with have been guys with no real certifications or past experience, and they're out as well.
Should I hire a consultant to help me screen and pick the right guy? What are some things you guys do to make the hiring process easier?
Why is my client still not ending it? It's a milestone project. We are already done and also given me bonus afterwards. Is there a chance that he will ask for an another milestone?
I just started as a freelancer on Upwork and don't have any connects to send proposals. Can any one give me promo code for free connects.
Hey everyone, especially newcomers to the platform,
I wanted to share a recent experience to help others avoid a common scam that seems to be circulating. I had a client reach out and offer me a contract, promising to make an advance payment. However, they required me to purchase a proxy service as part of the job. Here's the trick: while they promised the payment, it never actually came through – they used fake payment methods that look legitimate at first but don't process.
In the end, freelancers are left paying out of pocket for the proxy service, essentially covering the client’s expenses with our own money.
Please be cautious and always verify payments are cleared before purchasing anything on behalf of a client. Hope this helps someone avoid falling into the same trap!
I’m questioning if I should spend my moneys that is already not so much to buy connects or keep hoping one good projects comes on with the monthly connects and allows me to rollover and reinvest. But right now it feels like I’m just losing money by buying connects. My service use mobile engineer react native with 3 years of experience. Feeling a bit hopeless tbh - yes I’ve done everything on the profile front, filling it up with good info etc. my pitches are also professionally written and moi AI generated
Hi guys I'm new to front end web development with html css and js, I recently learned these and made some projects now I want to earn with these skills on upwork. Please guide me to how to get job on upwork for freshers and what should be the rate to charge, I have no idea thanks
So, I started applying to jobs on Upwork last week. I’m being very selective. I’ve learned to spot AI-generated descriptions fairly quickly, and they’re mostly from clients with $0 spent and unverified payment methods, which I always skip. But today, I saw a post from a client who has spent $10K and has 15 five-star reviews that seem legit, and it’s for a project I’d really enjoy. However, it requires 15 connects, and the description is a bit vague.
So, do legit clients sometimes use AI-generated descriptions? Or should I skip this one as well?
I'm experiencing an issue with an Android client app I'm working with. When trying to download an image attachment sent in a conversation, I receive an error message: "Failed to download this file (code 1000)." The image size shows correctly, but the file cannot be accessed after attempting to download.
I’ve verified my internet connection and checked that the file format is compatible with Android. Also file permission is allowed.
However, the error persists. Has anyone encountered this issue before or know potential fixes?
Any advice on troubleshooting this error would be greatly appreciated!
I looked through a lot of job postings on UpWork. There isn't that many opportunities for frontend focused work. Of course, it's impossible to learn every technology or become a top expert in only one.
There isn't a clear path for freelancing because it depends a lot on what expertise the freelancer wants to specialize in.
The technologies I work with are React.js, Node.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.
I'd love to hear what you think about at least upgrading to the MERN stack or if I could be missing something.
Thank you for reading :)
I’ve being on Upwork for a while now, due to not having connects I’m unable to land any gig since I opened, what do I do.
Because nobody listens to a beginner but people who made $100k+ and guess what?
Insights from those people are no more relevant, platform is evolving every now and then.
I started my UpWork journey July last year and made $25k+(with 100% JSS) till now. Definitely not much for tagged as "success" but good enough for any aspiring freelancer.
When I started my journey in July last year few things helped me get my first few jobs and decided to share real great insights for any beginner which can be implemented at that time and some even now as well.
I created a post here sharing all those insights and within 24 hours I deleted that post.
REASON?
I was bashed badly to share insights because I just earned $20.
Now that I have earned enough but what works for me for now won't work for anyone who is starting out.
Hello everyone! I’m looking for recommendations on a valuable skill I could learn over the next six months that would help me earn some extra income. Ideally, I’d like something practical that I can start applying fairly quickly. Any suggestions for skills that are in demand and accessible for beginners would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi! my client has added workload for me and is asking if he should increase my hours. My work is SMM, a bit of admin work, & editing videos.
I work pretty fast since I am already comfortable with editing and they are also easy to work with as they don’t require much revisions and clear with what they want.
My rate is $5/hr. My current working hours w/ them is 12/wk and i rarely get to use all 12 hrs since i work efficiently.
Should i tell him to increase my rate instead? of is this off-putting since I just started working with them (1 month).
Haven't had to apply for anything in a while but I was curious cus a big client invited me to interview and asked for examples of my portfolio
I've also got a normal behance page that I normally link to, but my insta is a way better presentation for my artwork and animation
I work for a client who is now having financial problems in his business. Yesterday he reached me out saying he wants to reduce my hourly rate by more than half. What should I do? I just say No? I am already working for less with him than my usual rates.
I'm already working full time and want some side side income. Out of all the jobs I seen on upwork I don't have experience.
Which jobs are most posted that is something I could learn to do less than 3 months by taking a class or studying and getting a certification if needed. Any other recommendations?
