HP a car or Rent?

I recently got my lvl5 cert and I applied for ph licence which I’ll get in 2 months time. The last thing left is to get plates for a car but that is the tricky part as in Glasgow cause of the overprowision rule you either get plate or go on the waiting list I guess. Or rent a car already plated as some savvy investor bought up plates in advance …

But the cost of renting comes in around 800 a month while buying a used car on finance insure it and fuel comes in around 650. Of course the own car way cost an initial 7k too for deposit and annual insurance. While renting starts with 0.

What is your take on this, which one I should go for as I am in no rush atm so can wait for a plate. But am I missing something if I feel the own car worth better as eventually in 5 years I’ll have a car and save 150 a month?

Health Stipend Question.

I just realized I might be leaving 1400 on the table. Is it possible to receive the stipend this quarter if today I do not have health coverage?

And if so what is the easiest, low cost health coverages? Sorry I'm lost truly and could definitely use that money.

Anyone get something like this before?

I just went to pickup point, got the no show fee and left. Never responded. Assumed it was a scam.

Cancel one ride a day due to pay not worth it

Yall,

I am tired of the $5 rides. For $20 mins of work. Can we all agree to cancel one ride a day to show uber we can organize? If you keep accepting shitty pay it will just get worse. Accept it then cancel due to low pay.

I am also working on a driver owned app that doesn’t rip drivers off and vows to never allow AI to take over human drivers. PM if interested.

Don't bother with the airport runs.

Complete waste of time now that they're only just giving you the same rate as local trips. They took away the surge and kept it for themselves. At least you get to keep the same headache of trying to pick somebody up.

It’s been a good run

There is no job in the world where making $8.93/hour and providing your own equipment to do the job should be acceptable.

I’ve been doing this for 9 years and I think I’ve reached the end of my rope to put up with this anymore.

I have never seen it this dead before.

It’s literally been an hour since I got a ping for uberX. I’ve had the app on while I drive all around town for Lyft and I’ve only gotten the occasional Ubereats pings which has been complete shit as well. Last one was 21 miles for $6.

UberX has usually been pretty consistent with offers with Lyft being the slow one in my area, so I don’t wtf is going on. I’ve tried turning off the UberX and turning back on and restarting the app, but still nothing. Even Saturday night was pretty dead. And I’m in the Dallas suburbs which is usually pretty good, so not like I’m in some small town. This is ridiculous.

Question for Uber Drivers in Ontario

Hey, I wanted to ask to the drivers who are located in Ontario mainly GTA region. Those who go to the YYZ airport queue to wait, is it necessary for the driver to have uber sign/stickers on the car to enter the YYZ airport waiting queue? Or we able to enter without the stickers too?

I’ll cancel ride request if I get names like Vashida, Harshall, vinjuwa because they prefer to die than 2 dollar tip. 😅

This Friday, I gave a ride to an Indian man from the airport to his house, a distance of 48 miles. The trip took about an hour, and I was expecting at least a $5 tip, especially since it was the day after Thanksgiving.

I dropped him off in a beautiful neighborhood, and when I checked my trip summary, I saw he left a $0 tip. On the other hand, the Black man I drove after that tipped me $14, which more than made up for it.

I’m grateful for the generous tip, but I can’t help wondering why some people seem to lack a sense of appreciation.

Wtf!?

Things are getting worse. I didn’t accept it of course. These days I only take short trips around my neighborhood, the long trips are just a waste and of energy. (I drive an EV) Bucks county PA

Assaulted by a rider

My father drives for Uber and Lyft in the DC-Maryland-Virginia area. A few days ago, he had a male and female rider come into his car with food. He has a sign that clearly states not to eat or drink in his car (bad experiences in the past with spills and not getting compensated for it). He said nothing until he noticed the guy open the bowl and start eating, at which point he turned around and politely told them he didn’t want them eating in the vehicle. The female yelled at him to focus on the ride and the male rudely told him to watch his mouth and stuff like that. The ride proceeded without incident and he got them to the drop off point. The female was sitting behind him and got out from that side. The male opened the door to leave then swung around and punched him in the right ear before slamming the door and walking away. My dad called Uber to report the incident and let them know he was in a lot of pain. They said he should go ahead and see a doctor and they would get back to him. It’s been days and we haven’t gotten any feedback. He records all his rides so we have video evidence of this. He hasn’t done anything else. Any guidance on how to proceed?

80mph on a 65 mph

Houston Traffic is crazy, everyone is going at least a 75 on 60 or 65 road limit. I'm about to merge into an 8 lane high way and I need to be on the extreme left 2 lanes in the first 0.5 miles of the merge to take the left exit

Pax legit expects me to go the speed limit and achieve this? How dumb can you be? You see the f150 trucks and jeep wranglers going 80mph, you see the crazy dodge drivers having fun cutting up and you have the nerve to complain cuz I hit the gas till 72 and successfully merged into the extreme left 2 lanes. The whole time this woman is looking at my speedo and comparing it with the numbers on her phone.

Make it worse, we hit the toll roads n it's 3 lanes. Can't be on the extreme left cuz every driver there is going 85 at least. Right lane is also dumb because of mergers. So I maintain center lane at a decent 75 cruising. This dumb woman can see cars still passing and cutting me off violently. I have to go with the flow of traffic so I hit 80 cruise mode.

Pax coughed n started to type frantically on her phone. Finally arrived the airport. It's a blood bath battle for parking. I see spot opening as a driver was about to leave, of course I hit the gas but still was beat to the spot. Had to double park beside the car that beat me there

This dumb woman legit thought I was playing with my gas pedal the whole time ?? She got off n looked at me w disdain. Ended the trip . Minutes later I see my rating tank from 4.88 to 4.86

She rated 2 stars fast driving.

Why are humans so dumb n petty. Speed limits are mere suggestions, safety always comes first.

Stop rating low for fast driving. It's necessary most times especially Houston

Advice for Returning Driver

Good Morning, I’m returning to drive after having been away from UBER for almost a year. I plan on driving “Part Time” just to supplement my income. I used to only drive Mornings and Airport Runs and I’d generally stop after about 100$ - 150$ which you can make in Atlanta relatively quick. What advice would you give in terms of things to look for and changes that have occurred. Thank You in advance !

Fast food insurance

I've had all my documents done, so been looking at insurance. It's weird but Zego won't even let me have a quote. I'm sure last time I did this a year ago they did the same thing.

I've just gone onto inshur, and it's quoting me £411 per month!

Is it just me or is this a hell of a lot?

But did they die

I’m not sure where some turd that doesn’t even own a vehicle gets to determine the livelihood of someone with 35 years of driving experience and a perfect driving record because of “speed”… FUCK THE SPEED LIMIT… I go with the flow of traffic and I’m fucking awesome… eat shit UBER!!!

“Who’s this for?!”

I have had it! Now they’re slinging the door open at the airport and asking, “who is this for?” Are you fuckin with me?! I expect that kind of BS downtown. And honestly, how stupid are you? Seriously, do you think that a person providing your name provides any additional security no, it doesn’t! The tag number is provided for a reason take your lazy ass and your lazy eyeballs confirm and get in the car or don’t ! But don’t sling my door open anymore! Ughhh On second thought from now on anybody who asked that will be subject to providing identification for my security, so that I may ensure that they are the person that supposed to be getting in the car !

Still learning but 2 firsts

Haven’t cancelled or screwed up yet, until tonight. Accepted a $30 walmart order for 2 deliveries (1 item each) and all 35 bays were full at the WM so I swiftly cancelled both. Then I somehow screwed up while on stacked deliveries. Had a Jimmy John’s order that I knew I needed to deliver but it didn’t send me to deliver it. But it was marked delivered. So I guess I screwed that up…? Don’t really know how. I spoke to the customer who was very forgiving and had already been refunded and ordered more food. So while I was trying to eat some of it, which was quite messy, the dinger went off with a shit order and when I grabbed my phone I accidentally accepted it. So I cancelled that too. So 3 cancelled orders and 1 lost order. All I got from Uber was a message in my inbox telling me an order was reported undelivered with some tips on successful deliveries. Is that all I’ll ever hear of it? The order I never delivered.
