How can I get extra tips?

New at this: the restaurant says everything is in the bag, but it’s sealed, so I don’t know if that’s true. Do I need to grab straws and napkins? What else? Should I text the customer when I’m about to arrive or right after I drop their food(if they don’t come outside)? Since I am gen-x, how do I relate better to the younger generations to get more tips?

    Double promo?

Looks like from 12 midnight tonight until 1:29am there is a $3 and a $2 promo, so $5 added to every order?

Same tomorrow 5:30-7:30pm. $2 and $1.50 so $3.50 added to each order.

    I guess since I don’t have a slave 70% AR, I won’t see any offers. Well I’ll get gems like $7 for 12 miles.

Glitch brought back old decline button UI

My app weirded out after a drop off so I restarted it, and every order I received had the classic decline button/menu interface. Felt like a blast from the past lol. One downside was I had no visible map anymore so I ended up restarting & it went back to normal. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Earn by time

I’m new to all of this, but is earn by time worth it late at night/early morning when the rate is this high? I only did 4 orders just to test it out, but only 1 of them tipped.

    Bad weather in my area

So my acceptance is a 98%... so that means if I decline 8 more times. I'm at risk for deactivated.. So what I'm wondering is does doordash care if I dash. But decline all offers just outside of town. I want to stay off county roads and the highway.

    Traveling DoorDasher

I’ve been dashing for 3 weeks and I really like the freedom, flexibility and the pay is similar to what I was earning as a welder.

My brother just had his first child and I want to visit him in Florida. I live in Minnesota. I want to be able to visit them but also work so I’ve got two plans and want to know if any more experienced dashers can help me with a few questions.

    1. I can drive from MN to Florida and stop in bigger cities along the way and dash. I’ve only dashed in the Twin Cities area of MN and on the app I can’t see areas outside the Twin Cities to know what areas are busy and plan a route to FL through the app. I’m assuming the best route would be the big cities between MN and FL and I also assume I’ll get similar offers in those cities as I do in my normal area. Anyone have any experience doing this and any tips on how I can road trip and dash effectively?

    2. Fly to FL and rent a car and dash in the area my brother lives then fly back. I assume you can rent a car and use it for door dash if you get the proper insurance. I see budget vans and trucks delivering for Amazon and ups so I assume it’s the same but anyone with any experience doing this your feedback would be appreciated. Also, I’m assuming my platinum status applies if I’m dashing in a new area. Is that correct?

Last question and any feedback is appreciated. Is there a resource anywhere for the best zones to dash in a given area? I live in the twin cities so I’m pretty good at staying in the nicer areas/zones but if I’m traveling to a new area it would be really helpful to know where to dash in a given city.

My apologies if these are common questions here but I’m fairly new and trying to make DoorDash fit into a lifestyle with more travel.

    New to this

So I just started door dashing two days ago, I already made $100 doing deliveries and I’m having a lot of fun doing it, however I’ve come to the realization that I can only deliver for fast food restaurants or coffee shops because I’ve had restaurants refuse to give me the order because I don’t have a hot bag. DoorDash sent me an email when I first signed up saying if I did my first delivery within 7 days that I would get a free gift, which includes the hot bag, I haven’t received an email from DoorDash about the gift or if they’re sending it. Do I email them about it or will they send it? And how do I know which restaurants I can pick up orders from? It hurts my acceptance rate that I have to decline orders because the restaurant doesn’t let me pick up. 🙄 Any other advice or tips for a newbie?

    Does acceptance rate matter?

I’ve been getting some of the worse offers and each time I let the timer run out or decline the offer my acceptance rate reduces. What if my AR is down to negative % will it affect my account or deactivate my account?

My current AR is in the single digits.

    Totally screwed myself

So i have a 50+ hour a week job and I dash on my days off . I finally got back to Platinum status and only so I can drive when i want as we know the so called better paying orders is a bunch of BS while i was still platinum tonight i accidentally accepted a friggin 11.00 order without looking at the miles which was 24 well i immediately unassigned not even knowing this was a stacked order( I only accepted 1) Well it bounced me to silver status WTF!!! they took 2% off my completion % to 94% Just jacked myself Question is do i have to drive another 100 orders before I get back to 95% completion % Now im literally going to be forced to take all the crap orders. Odd enough in silver status I got a 3 stack of course i accepted and for 8 miles total got 25.64 better than most of the platinum offers But for real can someone let me know how long its going to take me to get the 1% back ? Im so pissed at myself but it was my fault so i cant complain but having to schedule really sucks in my area. All replies and or suggestions are welcome.

I was used to harass someone

I got a double dash around 11:30 at night for Dunkin Donuts and CVS. Pay was $20 so I thought, sweet, nice one to end the night! Got to the dunks (inside of a Shell gas station) and the girl at the counter said, "Are you here for doordash? This is a prank, right?? Mr Potato Head???" And I laughed, and was like yeah, the name is weird. Must be some kid or something. But then she said, "Did you look at the order?? Look at what's in here" and she showed me the label.

It was just a cup full of sugar:

    • Chai syrup
    • Milk
    • Toasted Almond flavor
    • Vanilla flavor
    • French Vanilla flavor
    • Mocha flavor
    • Equal
    • Sweet N Low
    • Sugar

I was like oh wowww that HAS to be a joke... let's see what I'm supposed to pick up from CVS! And I open the order: Condoms and Vagisil. We all had a laugh and figured some kids were pranking each other. Picking up the 2nd half of the order, my friend on the night crew at CVS thought the same when I told him about the latte with 5 flavor syrups and 3 sweeteners waiting in my car for Mr Potato Head. We live in an upper middle class town, so I fully expected to be delivering to a bunch of giggling rich kid teens at a sleepover or to some crazy college party or something.

The delivery instructions said: Hand it to me: if you ask for Mrs Hoof... will add tip. I figured it was another code name like Mr Potato. I was actually kind of excited to see what was about to go down.

I rang the bell, and a confused/annoyed older lady, late 60s, early 70s answered the door. No giggling teens making a tiktok, nothing funny about it whatsoever. I was caught off guard and stammered... "uhh... someone sent this delivery for Mrs Hoof? It says it's from Mr Potato?"... and i showed her my screen. A young girl, maybe 16, appeared over her shoulder shouting "I bet it's him! This has to be HIM doing this!!!" And the lady just said "Ok. Ok thanks." In a super dejected tone of voice, and took the stuff and closed the door.

I felt so awful. It was not a fun joke, it was a mean one, and I executed it. Sigh.

    Taxes and such.

I just discovered that as an independent contractor, I have to pay my taxes [state and Federal] as well as the full social security tax rate [ around 15%],

    That said...

What expenses should be tracked for this job to help tax liability and and decent apps to help?

    1] Mileage?

2] Equipment purchases like hot bags, pizza bags, drink holders?

    3] Clothing?

4] Cell phone usage? [can you use the hours listed that you dashed and the hours you used you cell phone for tax credit?]

5] Gas? I guess this goes into the mileage?

    6] Vehicle repairs?

Anyhow what is the easiest way to track this and keep it sorted for the tax man?

    Increase in contract violations lately

I've rarely had contract violations, and whenever I dispute them they get overturned because it's usually due to traffic.

Lately I got 4 on the same day. There was a Thanksgiving parade in my hometown, so there was a lot of traffic. All of my disputes have been rejected. They've given me another one today but it doesn't even include which order it was, so I have no idea how to defend myself against it.

Is this something other people are experiencing lately?

    Order estimate times are trash

2-6 minutes and you'll often sit for an hour with absolutely nothing. Too many drivers, too few orders. They've made this completely unviable now for anyone not looking to make $50 for an entire night. Been dashing for four years, but I think I may be done for good now.

    Had to educate support

I received an order for a store that I knew did not take doordash orders. Some time had passed so I thought maybe things had changed. Nope, they had been done with DD for a long time now. So I reach out to support cuz the bot really wanted me to unassign the damn thing. No no no, pay me and cancel her order so she can get a refund. Support did not read what I was writing either. At one point he got short with me and told me no.. I was wrong, to just unassign it. I had to spell it out like 3 times. If I unassign I don't get half pay and another Dasher would just inherit my prob plus the customer is in limbo. Finally it clicked and he got it but it was a twenty minute waste of my time.

Navigation doesnt work with the new menu

Can someone help me out. I refuse to use Doordash in-app navigation and prefer to use Google Maps. However, since doordash has implemented the new menu, when I click get navigation, nothing happens. Lately I have been having to manually type the address in on Google Maps. Why would they keep implementing a feature into production that still has bugs? Where is the development, test cycle before these changes make it into production?

I have a message to my Dasher - trip to Lowes on 11/30 in VA

I ordered 3 items from Lowe’s, and they were all sold out. My Dasher, who I can’t contact anymore, was extremely nice, calling me 3 times throughout his shopping trip to inform me and to try to work out a substitute. I greatly appreciated his work ethic, but unfortunately every item was sold out and the order no longer made sense. I asked if I could cancel the order but still tip him for his time, which he said maybe but wasn’t sure. He canceled the order, and I no longer have access to the chat.

I contacted DoorDash support (2 hour wait lol) and they said there’s no way to leave a tip on canceled orders, and there’s no way for them to get me in touch with the Dasher. This is a big shame as he probably spent 30 minutes looking for items and checking with the store clerks, and Lowe’s being a **** show was not the Dasher’s fault. I wish I had asked him for his Venmo or Zelle info before cancelling the order!

To all dashers out there, thank you for dealing with the crazy holiday rush on our behalf.

To DoorDash, add an option to tip on cancelled orders.

And to my Dasher, if you see this, I’ll make it up to you. Please reach out with what you were shopping for.

Tbh. If it wasn’t snowing, I might take this because it’s drop off is 2 minutes from my home, so I could just finish after delivering it. But there’s a lot of snow in Lansing rn, so I ain’t risking driving that far for so little.

Doordash base pay should be $4. Why is this not possible?

Why can doordash not pay us $4 base pay? If the company encourages their customers not to tip their drivers, then raise the base pay so that we can survive as drivers. I Like to take orders that are atleast $10. And at $2 base pay, its so difficult to get a decent order that is worth it.
