Looking for Someone to Sublease my Apartment - Oneonta

I've heard the sad news about College of Saint Rose closing down, and that some of you are transferring to Oneonta! I hope that this post is appropriate for this subreddit, but I am looking to sublease my Hillside Commons apartment for spring 2024 (Jan - July). I pay $1,084 a month but it depends which apartment style you want, Hillside will accommodate. Hillside is pet friendly, has central cooling, heat, in-unit washer / dryer, and a gym. Hillside is practically on campus and has a bus that goes back and forth so it's super convenient!! I am willing to cover January rent if that makes this offer more appealing. Message me if interested!

RateMyProfessors for Classes

I built this website (Rate My Courses) ratemycourses.io and wanted to share it with students who might not be familiar with it. This is a website similar to RMP but for classes. You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in taking.

And don't forget to add reviews for the courses you took or currently taking!

School Psychology 2021 Graduate: Retrospective

As I watch my wife graduate after putting it off for a year... I'm looking back at my time at the college and program.

School Psychology is a wonderful field for those that want to significantly impact the lives of kids, parents, and teachers alike. We take on a lot of roles// "put on a lot of 'hats'". The MSEd and CAS program prepares you for the field~ over prepare even. Professors are knowledgeable with their areas and expertise~ assuring you will learn what you need to learn to be competent on the job and on interview. Even those within the broader school of education will provide invaluable knowledge. As such, it must be noted that the overall field of education consists of white, females... this is where it becomes muddy.

Perspective students are drawn in because of the general competency of the program. My perspective comes as a person of color and male with mental health challenges~ the program was awful. Not because I had an overwhelming negative experience but because you must conform to the norm of the program and everything involved in it. Very little was discussed when it came to diversity~ if it was, the content was pathetic and surface level nonsense. This is tough because we were likely to work with diverse populations. It is quintessential to get past the uncomfortability to best serve your students and grow as a professional/person.

It's officially been a year since my own graduation and I feel compelled to pass this on to any fellow strose school psych student that's in any type of minority: you will make it through! At times that general conformity and overall ignorance will be unbearable. You WILL feel that you aren't cut out for it, feel apart of the larger group/isolated, etc. Those are real challenges that you'll face in the program. However it's not all bad~ once you get through, you would have surpassed one of the biggest test to your individuality and culture which you will utilize for your own practice. We have to make a lot of sacrifices and push yourself to get through assignments/classes but in the end you'll have a pretty good education, have a pretty good idea about what type of school psych you want to be, and know what not to do when you're finally in the field and established.

Note: this is not to crap on any one professor or anything like that. I've been put in contact with various students to help them along the way and want to give anyone a potential lifeline unlike my experience.

Please feel free to contact me not as a consultant or anything like that but as a former student helping out another student.

Congrats my school psych class of 2022 folks! Enjoy your time in the spotlight because you absolutely earned it!

I made ratemyprofessors but for classes: Rate My Courses

Hi Everyone,

I have been working for some time now on this website ratemycourses.io and I am really excited to share it with you.

You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in. You can also sort courses by difficulty, usefulness and the overall rating from reviews made by other students. I think if enough people start using it regularly. it's going to be essential when you're choosing your electives or just to get advice on courses you will be taking.

Please let me know if there is anything that I should change or what features I should add.

Lastly, filtering and sorting courses is only gonna be useful and accurate if there are a lot of reviews, so please go ahead and leave some reviews to courses you've taken or are currently taking.

Enjoy!!

Is every class gonna have a online video?

I plan on staying far away from strose due to some students being complacent and not taking this seriously.

Incoming Grad Student/couple Looking for Roommates

Hey all!

We are moving up from Georgia. The program I'll be in is the School Psych Masters.

I currently have a graduate assistantship (so i will have a job) and my partner also has a job. We have two pets (small dog and cat). Due to work, it is hard for us to physically be up there however do plan to visit July 11-13 to look at apartments. If anyone is interested, it would be lovely to meetup if possible. ^^

We'd also appreciate any tips on apartment finding. Any little bit would be appreciated!

Are there any decent TEFL courses in the area?

My SO and I are looking to take a TEFL course, preferably including the practical teaching portion. We want to teach English abroad, and the online courses don't include the practical so we figured they aren't going to be great for learning the job and getting hired. We both work weekdays, so weekend classes would be best if possible. Is there anything in the area? I've been googling around but most of the websites are looking really uninformative and scammy when I start seeking out local class options. Any advice or reviews would be great. :) Thanks!

Roommate needed for awesome Lark St. Apartment

24 year old female Registered Nurse in grad school --looking for roommate in a lark street apartment in between Justin's and Cafe Hollywood. I have to study sometimes, but also enjoy going out frequently. The apartment is a surprisingly large 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath, washer/dryer, patio in back, $750/month for you; heat & hot water included. We would split electric/wifi/cable. Parking available for an additional fee. I would prefer to live with a young, fun, but responsible professional, (non smoker, no cats). Male or female. If you think this could be you, please let me know! Pictures available upon request.

HelloGoodbye to play at Rose Rock April 26

After one member of the rap duo The Ying Yang Twins was arrested on charges of possibly beating his wife the college decided it would not be wise to book them.

As a result, after a few weeks of negotiations the college has booked HelloGoodbye to play at Rose Rock this year.

More info on the band can be found through their record label here.

The Saint Rose Chronicle wrote an article detailing the whole story on why they switched artists to sign and what it took here

Welcome back!

With a week to go before classes begin and as people begin to move back to campus I just wanted to welcome everyone back to campus.

The subreddit has grown a bit over the summer and I'm hoping it will become a bit more active with it.

Back in March I posted a survey to get some sort of idea as to who hangs out here. For those of you that haven't filled it out and want to it can be found [here] (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xjktZUfzjWO_WWmJO66SVPYmKasmOeOj4vTC05ow-wc/viewform#start=invite)

Urgent: For those of you in the Albany area find a safe place inside and stay there!

Final edit: All clear, reports are it was an umbrella with a sword handle, I'm glad you all stayed safe.

Saint Rose issued a text alert at approximately 12:15PM today telling everyone to

Seek shelter inside now. Lock and close all doors and windows. Watch for updates.

According to what updates I've been able to find there are reports of a white male with some sort of gun in the area.

I have to go to work but I will try to keep this updated, if you have any more information please feel free to comment, but stay safe out there.

Edit: Have heard some reports that it may have been a hurricane warning. Due to the chatter on the police scanner I feel this is unlikely, although I hope that's all it is.
