Does anyone know what the hiking/trail situation is in the upstate after Helene? Or where I could find up-to-date information regarding accessibility? I used to go up to Oconee/Pickens etc to hike, but I’m not sure what it’s been like after the hurricane. :/
Does anyone know any good places to hike that may also have a stream for trout fishing near the upstate? I usually go to Burrells ford off of the chattooga river but I’d like to explore new areas.
I have these growing in a wild patch in my back yard and I'm very excited
Hello!
I don't know if this is allowed on here, but if it is, it seems like you guys would know where the best place for a weekend get-away in South Carolina would be and I would love some advice!
We're looking to go in the end of august, preferably to an airbnb close to a beach, and we're on quite a limited budget (which is why I ask you here to see if you know somewhere not as pricey but still beutiful). We have two small kids with us.
We're visiting from outside of the country and have never been in the area so I'm not sure where to start. A quick search online landed me on either Pawleys Island or Surfside Beach as quite cheep options, but are they any good?
Thank you in advance!
I have an 11 year old boxer/lab, and I'm worried about us both adjusting to the heat/humidity. It gets like 90s here in August. It's a very dry heat and we stay inside or get on some water or go deep in the mountains to stay cool.
Hurricanes.... Those things seem terrifying. I don't know how worried I should be about them, realistically? And flooding, does that happen often??
Alligators. We don't really have anything in the water here that will get you...
My dog loves swimming, and I'd want to make sure he stays safe. Am I going to be running into these guys on the daily? Are all fresh bodies of water off limits?
Any other information you have to give, I'd love hear. Safest/best neighborhoods to live, best dog friendly spots, tips, etc.
Thanks! 😊
An alternative to buying the State Parks Pass that some people might not know about is the Check Out SC Program:
https://www.statelibrary.sc.gov/libraries-librarians/services-programs/check-out-sc
Which allows county residents with a valid library card to check out the State Parks Pass for up to three weeks:
More info about the State Parks Pass, which gets you into every state park as well as free admission to certain in-park attractions:
https://southcarolinaparks.com/park-passports
The SC gov website shows a backpack and a day pass, but my local library mostly only has the 3-week checkout of the pass itself. So it may vary depending on your county. We just checked one out and all you do is go up to the front desk, and then tell them you want to check out a state parks pass, and show your library card. Then you get it for 3 weeks, just like a book.
I have a road trip planned for end of May and plan on stopping at Congaree NP. I’d really like to attend the synchronizing Firefly event and was wondering how hard it is to get tickets to in the Ticket Lottery? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Lived in charleston area for 2.5years now. Only been out to Greenville for a few days for work Looking to do a little road trip before my daughter starts kindergarten.
Love hiking and waterfalls and know there is a lot of it in the western part of the state
Have a full week. Looking st map thinking to go to Columbia head south and basically follow along the state border
Any suggestions of must hit spots - local spots, restaurants, sight seeing
Appreciate any suggestions or if someone had a route they've taken before
This article is going with the Pinnacle Trail at Table Rock.
What do you think is the best hike in SC?
So I'm trying to find a spot that I have been to once before and I don't know where it is other than like an hour or 2 from the Summerville I think in Sumpter. Anyway, it is a huge nature preserve that you can drive through and then has trails that break off and there is an alligator warning on some of them. It's a huge place that you can drive through. I know that is not a lot to go on but does it sound familiar to anyone?
