No afrobeats. No dancehall. No hip hop. Just soca! And current soca too. Past 3 years at least. I'm begging! 😡
Song #1 - “Pumping… pumping.. pumping” something like that. It’s not Krosfyah pump me up. I heard it this year at carnival & it was like some trini or bajan accent saying pumpin… can’t find it.
Song #2 - a song about “Michelle.” Who tek Michelle or something like that.
Any advice is welcomedn
Heard it at the beach……Man with a rough deep voice keeps going “rum rum rum rum rum rum”. I guess this is the song chorus
Any help is appreciated
Ill go first.
Destra Garcia, Soca Monarch 2011, Bmobile Power Competition
There are no videos so you would've have needed to get the cd's to watch her perform.
So the performance is this kind of slumber party theatre thing.
First the mic was muffled and then remember at the time destra was suffering from dengae and it was visible on her hands because her hands were green and shiny.
It just seemed like she was out of energy before the performance started and to make it even worse she didnt use Welcome Back which was her most popular song
She used We Own It which wasn't well received until way after the soca monarch in March or April.
People didnt know the song and her performance was oddly not her.
She seemed like she knew she wasnt winning this one and it felt like she knew she made a mistake
You can tell when she walked off the stage she was mad at Machel for just dissing her but also mad at herself for picking that song.
You can tell the crowd wasnt in to it.
Let me hear any Soca Monarch performances that you really disliked below in the replies.
Okay So before everyone jumps on meh for this post!
I just have to say soca is not like it used to be.
Yes, i notice that it's changing and some songs are good but the thing is I get bored easily listening to these songs.
i don't really enjoy these songs anymore as i did!
For example, i really love Fay-Ann, Destra, and Shurwayne Winchester all dem!
But when i take the time to sit down and hear their music i dont hear the same flavor they used to have because its changing!
Soca Monarchs are unwatchable as of late and i show no interest in them because yes there are new artists but they aren't big names!
and most of the time these new artists sing about sexual activity or the same word in a song over and over again
Idk if its just me!
Ill name some of my favorite songs by them!
Fay Ann Lyons: Start Whining or M.A.S (Make a Stage)
Shurwayne Winchester: Either Alequa, Dont Stop or Ah cyah Wait
Destra: I Dare you or Rewind
Thats all for now my trini sisters and brothers!
The tune is so familiar and I feel like it came from another, older song that I forgot the name of. Any help appreciated!!!
Tell me what you think of this!

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to track down a riddim from the late 90s or early 2000s that uses the same instrumental as Eve’s “What Ya Want”. Does anyone know the name of this riddim or any songs that feature it? Thanks in advance for your help!
