Hey!! I was wondering how important you think the SAT is for international applicants for Smith. It's because I was not able to take it. After all, it is expensive and my country has serious economic problems so there is no way to purchase the SAT without asking for a credit card that comes with high fees. Tbh I messed up my GPA in freshman because of one parent's deceased, but I recovered it on the part of my sophomore, junior, and senior years. I am afraid of getting rejected instantly because of my grades, even though I know Smith is Test Optional I know academics are fundamental. GPA: 84.3/100
guys i scheduled an interview for smith college around a week ago, but i have'nt heard back, is that a bad sign or like are they not able to accomodate a large number of applicants? :/
Hi! Smith admissions office notified that my counselor has to upload my first senior grade report. And because I don’t have quarters system, they request informal grades. Do you know what it is?
Hiii i just scheduled my interview for smith college. what are some questions they might ask or what will they talk about? because i honestly have no clue Also will they have my application open infront of me?. plus if theres any other advise that may be helpful pls share some! thankyou!
hiii i applied early decision and have a zoom interview scheduled in two days. i feel pretty confident that it will go well but i’m wondering if there’s any other advice that would help me, or any questions i should be sure to ask. thank you :)
I just applied as an ED1 applicant to Smith. I have finished everything on time except for the IDOC. I was unaware that IDOC was a thing being an international student, and now it has taken me 2 days to figure out all the documents and translating them as well. Will Smith accept my IDOC even if it is late? I saw on the page that they will not receive/consider those who are late. I am desperately committed to Smith and I am fearing for my life that IDOC will screw up my financial aid, something that is make it or break it for me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP
Hello! I am an international student applying to Smith College and I have some questions regarding the interview. Will it give me a bust in my application? How do I schedule it? I'm looking for your help -(^_^)-♥️
hi! does anyone know or have an idea when spring transfer decisions will come out? thank you so much!
As I submitted CSS profile, Smith college sent me financial aid application requirements. I have sent the non tax filer statement through IDOC and the status is received, but in the Net partner it’s not received. I am in trouble or I have to wait until admissions will process it? Is there someone who has/had similar situation?
Hi! Excuse me if I’m being weird asking this.
My girlfriend is writing dissertation on Sylvia Plath’s work and immensely wanted to use Plath’s thesis as a source for it. We’re both students of Russian university, thus our access to scientific sources is quite limited. I tried looking it up on the web, but smith college website is the only place Plath’s thesis can be found.
If it’s not a big issue, could anyone who’s currently a smith student please download it for me? I would really appreciate that!
I found this source online saying that smith has a 50% acceptance rate for their MSW program, but that seems too good to be true.
As someone who will be graduating with an Anthroplogy degree, how could I set myself apart from other applicants?
hi! i'm currently a high school senior and I was kinda interested in Smith College while pursuing engineering. can you guys share your experiences on what STEM majors and engineering is like at Smith? thank you!
Lost my water bottle last Sunday :(
It's a raspberry(?) red 32 oz hydroflask with a bunch of stickers on it. The lid's handle has a hole drilled through it with a caribbeaner with two unfinished friendship bracelets on it. If you see it please let me know!! Reward: a friendship bracelet :D
Current Smithie here. I know the college has a proposed new protest policy that they’re trying to pass, at least somewhat under the radar. Aka I didn’t hear about it until I was on confesh and now all of those posts are getting deleted so signs point to yes. I got to read it (on confesh) but only briefly. It impacts faculty, students, and staff so I think we all deserve to read it…
Does anyone have any information about it or ideas on what to do about it?
Edit: linking screenshots of a confesh post copying the FAQ answers. Post has already been deleted screenshots of confesh of FAQs
Edit 2: finally got the document! new protest/free speech policy
I am a five colleges student taking a class at Smith. I have a regular meeting that takes place shortly after my Smith class finishes so I can't make it home to take the meeting. Are there any good spots on campus where I can find an empty room to have a meeting? I can't reserve a room at the library since I am not a Smith student. Thanks!
For those who transferred to Smith or know someone who transferred, did you do an interview? I see on the website that there is an option to complete an interview but that's all. I have loads of questions like how much does the interview benefit your application, what type of questions they ask, was the interview one on one or a panel? Any insight would be helpful. Thank you :)
I'm considering pursuing an architecture major at Smith because although I'm uncertain about architecture, I'm passionate about pursuing a career in urban planning. Is a Bachelor of Arts the right choice for me? Smith only has bachelor of arts in the architecture field and how is it being an arch major in Smith
Hey y'all. Sorry if this has been asked before, but if Smithies participated in the pro-Palestine student encampments, how did the college take action for/against it? I'm currently in the process of crafting my college list, and I'd really like to avoid any institutions that sanctioned student activists re: Palestine. I can't find much about it online, so I'd really appreciate your comments!
Hi! I really want to get into Smith, and while looking over their CDS I noticed they mark Character/Personality Qualities as very important. What qualities should I try to foster in myself/make sure to point out during the interview to maximize acceptance likelihood? Thank you so much!
I'm an '01 alum who wrote a book that is about what I learned in college -- about empirical psychology and also about myself -- and how I had to seriously revise it later.
I have two events, one for anyone and one for current students only. (That said, if you want to come to the student one, DM me and I can put you on my guest list.)
1. Student-only event: On Oct. 8 at 4:15 p.m.
I'll be in the campus center talking about:
* A revolution in psych and neuroscience that's happening right now, where serious scientists are attempting to study subjective experience objectively.
* The revolt that's brewing among scientists to overthrow the DSM because it is holding back progress in understanding the human brain. And what this means for the future of neurodiversity and many of the labels we have come to know and love.
* How I got a popular science/memoir book deal with a big name publisher, and what you can do to set yourself up to do this too.
* The future of journalism and the fate of legacy media. (Obviously just guessing here. Looking forward to hearing what the youngsters think.)
* How to stop lying to yourself, keep your priorities in mind, and get ahead in late-stage capitalism no matter what random-ass white collar job you land.
2. Broadside Bookstore event with Andrew Leland, author of "Country of the Blind." Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
I'm considering applying to Smith, but as a person whose gender identity is pretty complicated and who has used he/him pronouns and masculine names professionally (such as in literary publications) in the past, I'm wondering if my perceived gender identity could mean this isn't the place for me. I am sort of woman-adjacent sometimes, but I'm also occasionally man-adjacent, and usually pretty solidly nonbinary. Is this a problem?
EDIT : Sorry, I'm really tired, but what I'm essentially asking is 'How flexible are they on the gender rule?'.
I was accepted into the fly-in and I am debating if I should accept or not. Did anyone else get accepted or a past alumni tell me what their experience was like?
hey guys! i’m a first year and i literally just heard about the family weekend thing happening late october. due to circumstances i won’t be going home for fall break but my family will visit me instead, but i wanna see if i can try to go home during the family weekend thing since my family will already be visiting me 2 weeks prior! do you guys know if we’re allowed to go home (i wanna visit my friends in their state schools SO bad)
I just submitted my application to Smith's fly in program but I realized I selected that I'd like to attend either session, the one in Oct or Nov. But I realized I have another fly in scheduled for the date in october. Am I able to contact Smith and change my application???
hi everyone! i'm part of the smith class of 2028!
while i know that i'm really new and not an upperclassman yet and the school year JUST began, feel free to ask me any questions about smith college and i'll answer them as best as i can! things like applications (i can't chance you, but i can offer you perspective), residence life (i have a roommate and i'm also a slight homebody loll), and life at smith (as an adjusting first year) are easy for me to answer :)
for context: i'm a former public school student who became a homeschool student due to personal circumstances. I applied RD and i've taken supplemental courses at community college during my senior year (while homeschooled) and 5 AP's in total.
good luck to applicants for class of 2029!! rooting for all of your success!
my friend needs to be at Amherst College for some classes from 9am-2:50pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week (I'm posting for her since she doesn't have a Reddit account). I was wondering if anyone is commuting from Northampton to Amherst by car around those times/days and could take her with them so she doesn't have to spend two hours round trip on the bus every time lol
Hello!
I am a senior in high school. I am choosing my ED at the moment, and it is supposed to settle between Haverford, Vassar, Smith and Mount Holyoke. I am an international(Asian) first gen student who is seeking full-aid (if possible).
Thanks!
Current first-year students, could you please share how you approached writing supplemental essay on the question “Smith has a unique housing system, where students of all class years live together in 41 different houses. With our Residential Curriculum, students will become critically aware global neighbors, exploring their self-identity by living in community, engaging in reflection and challenging their own beliefs. What personal experiences, background or abilities would you bring to this residential environment to share with your neighbors and what would you hope your neighbors would share with you? (250 words)”
This would be very helpful Thank you in advance!
