I've been stumped on how to go about developing Sissyish vocabulary for years. What words are most important to sissies? Where should we even begin?

Recently I've had an idea that might help. I compiled a lot of sissy personality archetypes, and listed them in order from greatest responsibility to least. Here is the list:

• Princess (at least in the historical sense this would be a very prestigious role!)

We could use a list like this to gradually develop Sissyish vocabulary, by starting at the least-demanding archetype ("Doll") and working our way up to the highest ("Goddess").

For example, a "doll" might not need to speak at all, and would need to understand few if any terms, mostly simple commands about positioning. A "pet" would understand more commands, such as "sit", "stay", "feeding time" and such. And so on.

What does everyone think of this idea? Are there any archetypes you would add or consolidate, and any words or word categories you would suggest for each?

I've been struggling with the concept of "Domspeak" for a while, wondering why Doms would want to speak another language and what use they would have for it.

But a new idea struck me that perhaps Domspeak would not be a fully-developed language, but a set of "trigger" words that use sounds and spellings that sissies can't use. Domspeak would have a different phonology than Sissyish.

/r/Sissyish has spoken before about removing the imperative mood from the language (so that sissies would be unable to issue commands). However, a special Domspeak trigger word could restore the imperative mood. Imagine a word like "Do" that implies command, which could be used before any action word in Sissyish, but it has a pronunciation/phonology not allowed in Sissyish. Sissies could understand it and obey it, but they wouldn't be able to say it.

Does this make sense? What does everyone think of this idea?

I may have mentioned this before, but the current phonology's been bugging me for awhile.

It works great for helping English speakers transition to Sissyish and it makes pronunciation and spelling consistent for English loanwords. It's also been established enough that I wouldn't want to just get rid of it.

However, it does have some issues:

• Non-English speakers may have a hard time learning it, as it involves many vowel sounds not replicated in other languages.

• Using letters that were originally consonants in English as vowels in Sissyish could be confusing for new learners. (x and q)

• Because it replicates English phonology, the current version of Sissyish has many words that sound identical to English words. If spoken Sissyish sounds pretty much the same as English, it doesn't feel distinguished as a language.

I think the best solution would be to keep the existing phonology for mid-tier Sissyish, while instituting a new one for deeper Sissyish.

This new phonology would be /a e i o u/. This is the most common vowel system used across languages. These are used as the sole vowels in both Spanish and Japanese (well, technically the Japanese "u" is unrounded but it's extremely similar otherwise). I feel like making these the established vowels for deep Sissyish would make the language much easier to learn and use for non-English speakers, as well as providing a different sound than English when it is spoken.

I've posted a few times about the idea of "levels" or "tiers" for Sissyish.

Originally this was just a way of classifying a sentence on a spectrum from modified English to "pure" Sissyish, but I've recently started thinking about it from a more practical perspective.

It would be very useful to have some levels of Sissyish understandable by English speakers, while deeper levels can only be understood by those fluent in Sissyish.

This would make Sissyish usable as a "secret language" that could be spoken aloud or even written down without risk of others catching on. Think of how great it would be if you could listen to hypnos without headphones, or send text messages in Sissyish without concern of other people peeking over your shoulder!

Here is how I would summarize the tiers in this image from this perspective:

• Tier 1: Basically just simplified English with a bit of modified grammar and spelling. This would be very easy for English speakers to understand.

• TIer 2: This is getting harder to understand, but still could be parsed by an English speaker with some time and effort. Notice that the text in Tier 2 would be easy to understand by listening but rather harder by reading. It could be useful to reverse this, and create a version of Sissyish that is easy to understand through reading but difficult through listening, perhaps by shifting vowel sounds.

• Tier 3: This is mostly impossible for an English-only speaker to understand through either reading or listening. Words like "sisy" stick out, but these could be modified into less interpretable forms such as "shishi" for an added level of safety.

• Tier 4: For hardcore sissies, this level of Sissyish would be indecipherable to English-only speakers through either reading or listening. Even individual letters would not be legible.

I noticed today that /r/Sissyish had the honor of being mentioned on the prestigious /r/conlangscirclejerk. I'm truly flattered, and never dreamed that this humble project would achieve such a level of recognition. Here are just a few things for our new friends to keep in mind:

• Sissyish is being developed largely by amateurs and for entirely kinky reasons. As such, please don't expect anything remotely sophisticated, and also be aware that by digging anywhere into this subreddit you will encounter lots of potentially offensive and highly NSFW content. You shouldn't browse this if you are under 18, and please don't take anything too seriously!

• As of the moment, Sissyish is currently being developed as a pidgin of English with traits of an isolating language, minimalistic grammar rules, and low morphophonemic variation. In other words, it's basically an ultra-simple English with alternate spellings more in line with how the words are pronounced. In terms of being like a pidgin, this is similar to the design principles of Toki Pona.

The recent poll showed that a slight majority want Sissyish to sound different from English, instead of sounding very similar.

As with all decisions about the language, we can please everyone by making multiple dialects for Sissyish, with some being more similar to English and others being very different.

Here are some ways a Sissyish dialect unlike English could be created:

• Adopt very simple pronunciation rules, inspired by pidgin languages. This post has some examples. Consonants could be broken up with vowels rather than clustered together, diphthongs could be reduced to monophthongs, and the total number of vowels and syllables could be reduced. This would make Sissyish easier to pronounce for many non-English speakers.

• Search for commonly shared root words. For example, instead of using the word "good", Sissyish could use something like "bene", which is related not only to English words but many other words in Romance languages. This would make Sissyish easier to understand for many non-English speakers.

• Use sound symbolism. It could be difficult to do this from the ground-up, but sound symbolism could be a helpful guiding principle. More "feminine" sounding words should be preferred over harsher, more "masculine" sounding words.

What are your opinions on this?

In other words, would you rather use Sissyish that is mutually intelligible with English, or Sissyish that is not mutually intelligible?
Pros of Sissyish that's mutually intelligible with English:

• It will be easier to learn for English speakers
• Doms wouldn't have to learn Sissyish in order to understand it
• Greater preservation of core words like "sissy", "pussy", "clitty", etc.

Pros of Sissyish that's not mutually intelligible with English:

• It could be used as a secret language amongst sissies, which could be a huge asset for secret sissies hiding their lifestyle
• It would make the language more unique and original, and more akin to a real language rather than a dialect of English

For those not in the know, a "pidgin" is one of the simplest forms of language possible.

Fundamentally, a pidgin is a simplified means of linguistic communication, as it is constructed impromptu, or by convention, between individuals or groups of people.

A pidgin may be built from words, sounds, or body language from a multitude of languages as well as onomatopoeia. As the lexicon of any pidgin will be limited to core vocabulary, words with only a specific meaning in the lexifier language may acquire a completely new (or additional) meaning in the pidgin.

Pidgins originated as trade languages between two groups that did not share a common language, and as such they are extremely minimalistic. This could be perfect for Sissyish!

In this post, I'll go over some of the traits of pidgin languages, and how they could be applied in Sissyish.

#Grammar

• Typologically most closely resemble isolating languages

In short, an isolating language is one where grammatical differences are conveyed by adding separate words, rather than by modifying words.

For example, a non-isolating language would use "dildos" as the plural of "dildo", whereas an isolating language might use "many dildo".

Or a non-isolating language would use "my dildo" as a possessive, whereas an isolating language could use "dildo de me" in which "de" is a possessive particle.

• Uncomplicated clausal structure (e.g., no embedded clauses, etc.)

Typically, a clause is a sentence structure consisting of a subject, a verb, and any objects the verb acts on.

An independent clause is a clause that can stand by itself as a simple sentence.

Examples of simple sentences include "I run" or "The dog barked at the cat in the backyard."

On the other hand, a complex sentence includes not just an independent clause, but one or more dependent clauses.

Some complex sentences aren't too difficult - for example, "I know that he is here" is technically a complex sentence, with "I know" as the independent clause, and "that he is here" as the dependent clause.

However, some complex sentences can get very thorny, especially when the dependent clause is embedded within the sentence:

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things in my mind."

"What she had realized was that love was that moment when your heart was about to burst."

Sissyish will still need some dependent clauses, if only to be able to say "I feel" things. But more complicated sentences could be discouraged.

• Lack of grammatical tense; use of separate words to indicate tense, usually preceding the verb

In grammar, tense is a category that expresses time reference. In languages like English, tense is expressed by modifying the words themselves - you want to "eat", you are "eating", you "ate" yesterday.

But some other languages, like Chinese, add a new word to express tense. IMO this makes more sense for Sissyish, as it's simpler to memorize just the present tense and one past-tense particle instead of having to memorize the past tense form of every single word.

For example, instead of saying "I ate", you can just say "I eat yesterday" or "I finish eat". Instead of "I ran", you can say "I run this morning".

• Lack of conjugation, declension or agreement

Example of conjugation: the verb break can be conjugated to form the words break, breaks, broke, broken and breaking.

Sissyish doesn't need all these different forms! It would only need one - "break", and everything else can be determined through either added words or context.

Declension is used in English for singular/plural forms, to denote possessiveness, subjective and objective cases for pronouns, degrees of comparison, and some number determiners.

Singular/plural: English "dildo" vs "dildos". Sissyish could resolve this by using "dildo" and "many dildo".

Possessiveness: English "my dildo". Sissyish could resolve this by using "me [pos. particle] dildo".

Pronoun cases: Sissyish doesn't need to distinguish between "I" and "me", or "he" and "him". Just one word is fine.

Degrees of comparison: English "quick, quicker, quickest". Sissyish can use "quick, more quick, most quick". I'm a little tempted to use constructions like "bestest", but something like "so so good", "very very good", or "most good" would preserve simplicity here...

Number determiners: English "this -> these" and "that -> those". Sissyish can just use "this" and "that" without pluralizing.

All this said, I am tempted by certain gender declensions, and this explanation of cases is interesting. But perhaps those are too complex for now...

[Agreement](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agreement_(linguistics\)): this is how in English, you can say "I am" and "he is", but not "I is" or "he am". Silly! Sissyish just needs one form, "is", that can be used regardless of what word it's attached to. Likewise with "I go" and "he goes" - all we need is "go"!

• Lack of grammatical gender or number, commonly supplanted by reduplication to represent plurals and superlatives, and other parts of speech that represent the concept being increased and clear indication of the gender of animated objects.

This is mostly covered by the above sections. I do like the idea of reduplication to represent plurals and superlatives - e.g. "many many dildo" or "so so sexy".

• Lack of clear parts of speech or word categorization; common use and derivation of new vocabulary through conversion, e.g. nominalization, verbification, adjectivization etc.

This I'm not sure about, at least not for the more strict rules-based core of Sissyish. But I wouldn't be against more experimental sissies occasionally switching out nouns to use as verbs, verbs to use as nouns, etc. I know that Toki Pona does this and resolves it with certain particles to indicate the subject and object.

#Pronunciation Rules

This post is getting waaay too long, and I'm going to be honest, I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the pronunciation stuff mentioned here.

I totally agree with preferring basic vowels, keeping pronunciation rules consistent, and not having tones.

• Reduction or elimination of syllable codas

• Reduction of consonant clusters or breaking them with epenthesis

• Elimination of aspiration or sound changes

• Monophthongization is common, employment of as few basic vowels as possible, such as [a, e, i, o, u]

• Lack of morphophonemic variation

• Lack of tones, such as those found in Niger-Congo, Austroasiatic and Sino-Tibetan language families and in various families of the indigenous languages of the Americas

For awhile I've been debating whether Sissyish should have more strict or more permissive grammar and spelling rules.

The points in favor of more permissive rules is that they would promote convenience and ease of use, which are perfect for silly bimbo sissies.

The points in favor of more strict rules is that they would promote regularity, clarity, and simplicity, which are perfect for obedient sissies.

Ultimately, it's a debate between ease of use (permissive rules) and ease of understanding (strict rules). How can I resolve this dilemma?

I don't want to choose just one or the other. What I've currently settled on is that it should be perfectly fine to use Sissyish with permissive rules (in many cases). So for example, if a bimbo sissy is interspersing English with her Sissyish, that's totally okay!

However, for sissies who want or need more structure, there will exist some fixed grammar and spelling rules that it's recommended to adhere to for "proper" obedient sissies.

I think this way we'll have the best of both worlds. There's no problem with beginning sissies who are coming up with their own silly spellings and unique grammar. But for sissies who want something more regular and rules-based, they can have that too.

A month ago I made the post Sissyish in <50 Words, hoping it would make it easier to develop the language.

Tonight, however, I realized that 50 words is too complex to start with - it's simply too many words for our sissy bimbo brains to keep track of!

As such, I'm pursuing an even stricter exercise in linguistic minimalism and trying to define what Sissyish would be like in a mere 10 words. Here's what I came up with:

I really wanted to add "cock", but I figured "Daddy" would be a decent metonym for it; likewise with "sissy" for "clitty" or "pussy".

I'm on the fence about some of this, but honestly I like having more constraints on the language. What do you sissies think - are there any important words you would add or change here? What else is vitally important to the sissy mindset?

Ever since the Discord debacle, I've been looking for a decent replacement for the app. I've been using Kik for awhile, and it's pretty popular amongst sissies. If you have an account on there (or want to make one) feel free to hit me up! My name on it is sissy_soph

A few months back, there was someone who came on the Discord who was incredibly knowledgeable about linguistics but strongly disagreed with Sissyish's phonology. Apparently they couldn't stand the idea of 'x' and 'q' as vowels :P

While using these letters as vowels gives the language an interesting look, and it allows for most English sounds to be expressed in Sissyish, admittedly it's one of the biggest stumbling blocks for new learners and could be very confusing for Doms.

Many folks enjoy using these letters as vowels, and I don't want to change that. However, I'd like to suggest another potential solution that keeps the pronunciation consistent with the spelling: instead of re-assigning letters to different sounds, we simply remove some of the sounds.

Aside from resolving the spelling/pronunciation issue, I see this as having two additional advantages:

• It gives Sissyish a unique (but still understandable) accent

• Restricting the vowels in Sissyish to those that are common in most languages would make Sissyish easier to learn for sissies not fluent in English

According to Wikipedia, the most commonly-used vowels across languages are /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/. For example, Spanish and Japanese do not use any more vowels than these.

Under the current scheme, Sissyish represents these sounds with the letters 'q', 'e', 'y', 'o', and 'w'. It uses 'a', 'i', 'u', and 'x' to represent /æ/, /ɪ/, /ə/, and /ʊ/ respectively. Naturally this is a non-standard way of representing them. If we want, we could switch these sounds back to the more commonly-used letters, and simply pronounce existing Sissyish words differently.

So any written 'a' becomes a pronounced IPA /a/, any 'i' becomes /i/, any 'u' becomes /u/, and so on.

Under this system, Sissyish "Dady" would rhyme with English "bawdy", and Sissyish "pusy" would rhyme with English "juicy". The sounds /æ/, /ə/, and /ʊ/ would be removed from the language.

We could potentially preserve the /ɪ/ (first vowel in English 'sissy' and 'ship') just to keep the sound of the word "sissy" the same, in which case the /i/ sound would be represented with the letter 'y'.

Alternatively we could remove the /ɪ/ sound, in which case any letter 'i' would make an IPA /i/ sound and so Sissyish "sisi" would rhyme with English "fleecy".

What would everyone think of this proposed change? Does it make sense, or is it too restrictive?

And failing this, I could just suck up my silly reservations and acknoweldge that sometimes the same written vowel should occasionally be pronounced differently depending on the word that it's in :P but that's no fun!

I'm trying to come up with the linguistic features that are absolutely necessary for a language like Sissyish - the ones that most speakers will find useful.

As outlined three years ago (wow!) two of the main purposes of Sissyish are:

• to subtly reinforce sissy values in those who speak it

• to act as an auxiliary language between sissies and Doms who may not be fluent in English

I've also asked what sissies use language for (1, 2). In general, this can be summed up as:

• To greet Dominants, to take orders from Dominants, to provide information to Dominants, and to ask pertinent questions of Dominants. Also sometimes a sissy may express her feelings to a Dominant, e.g. "Fuck, your cock feels so good!" or "You look so hot!"

• To greet other sissies, to express their feelings to other sissies, and to share advice/information with other sissies.

Can anyone think of other general situations in which a sissy would need to use language? For more specific uses of language, this Wikipedia article may be helpful. It may also be helpful to figure out the interactions sissies are already having, or the basic needs and wants of sissies (1, 2).

Over the past few years, Sissyish has taken many forms, and there's been quite a few suggestions for aspects to the language. However, some have persisted through multiple forms of the language.

• Eliminating odd tense or conjugation rules. "Be", "am", "are", and "is" become the same word. No gerunds - "I am sucking" becomes "I suck" or "I suck now". "I", "me", and "myself" become the same word.

• Minimizing or eliminating the use of past/future tenses. Definitely no irregular verbs - all verbs either have the same ending for past tense, or past tense is replaced with a construction like "I eat yesterday.", "I work last week."

• Standardizing pluralization rules. For example, all plural nouns end with the same letter, or pluralization happens by saying "many" before the word meant to be pluralized. For example, "I see dildos!" vs "I see many dildo!".

• No articles like "a" or "the".

• Simple grammar reinforces a simple mindset.

• Consistent orthography. Letters always make the same sound when pronounced, regardless of what word they're in.

• Simple pronunciation rules that are easy to learn for speakers from multiple languages.

• QWERTY compatibility, the ability to type in Sissyish with a standard QWERTY keyboard (at least in the standardized form of Sissyish).

• Mutual intelligibility with English, so that Dominants don't have to learn a new language to understand it (at least in the standardized form; exotic dialects of Sissyish can have Domspeak.)

  • 1/27/23 edit: maybe this would be better stated as "Sissies can understand Doms who speak English." I'm on the fence about whether Sissyish should resemble a very altered English, or if it should be unintelligible. The latter would allow it to be used as a "secret code" amongst sissies and in-the-know Doms.

• A pretty, girly, cutesy, simple sound for the language.

• Probably many -y word endings.

• Features that show respect for others and keep the speaker humble and submissive.

• Honorifics for Dominants, with enough flexibility to meet every sissy's tastes.

#Other Possible & Suggested Features

• Altering or removing the sissy word for "I" - one possible example being "this sissy" or the sissy's name.

• Removing the Imperative Mood, meaning that sissies are unable to express direct commands or even make requests. Rather than saying "Let me suck your cock!", a sissy might instead ask a question, "Would you like for me to suck your cock?" or express a feeling "I would love to suck your cock."

• A potential downside of this is that a sissy could never directly say "Fuck me!" Is it too presumptuous for a sissy to request that directly? Would adding "Please" help?

• Special rules involving capital letters.

• Special rules involving possession, e.g. a sissy cannot say "my Dom", but instead "the Dom who owns me" or something similar.

This is a short follow-up to my Back to Basics post.

I think I made a small mistake originally by trying to formulate Sissyish from the ground-up, by starting with the sounds of the language and then moving on to words and grammar. I now think I should have started from the "top-down", by starting with English and gradually modifying it to meet the needs of the language.

Although the unique sounds and spelling are fun, mutual intelligibility with English is probably more important for most people. Keeping things close to English (at least to start) would also help reduce barriers for people looking to work on the central concepts of the language, such as the grammar and systems of meaning.

The phenomenon of sissies naming themselves is incredibly interesting. At some point I'd love to draft a list of popular sissy names and what commonalities they might have. Here's a few that come to mind:

• Tiffany

• Ashley

• Fiona

• Sophia

One of the most frequent attributes is an IPA close front unrounded vowel, also known as the "long-e" sound. With a longer list even more commonalities could be discovered! For example, I am already noticing a tendency towards fricatives - "f" or "s" sounds in sissy names.

Moving on from this, however, I want to talk about etymologies. Unfortunately, many popular sissy names have run-of-the-mill meanings behind them. "Ashley", for instance, means "Ash tree clearing". While intriguing from a historical perspective, this isn't ideal for sissies wanting to pick a sexy or cute name.

This led to the idea of creating names from scratch in Sissyish. Rather than importing names from English, we can come up with our own, or modify existing names to be more fun.

A simple example: rather than a sissy calling herself "Ashley", she chooses something like "Asslee". The etymology is pretty obvious - it comes right from "ass" (and maybe another word that we could invent or redefine?). But at the same time, it's still recognizable as a name rather than merely a word. Perhaps Asslee would have chosen her name (or had it chosen for her) because she is very proud of her sissy booty and wants to be admired for it.

I'm fairly certain I've discussed this before, but it's always good to review the fundamentals.

Before we try to construct a new sissy language, we should ask ourselves: why does a sissy need language at all?

The first thing that springs to mind is understanding commands. If a sissy in a D/s relationship wants to be obedient and submissive, she will need to understand at least a few words so that she can understand what her Dom wants her to do.

Even for a deeply submissive sissy who has taken a vow of silence, she can't do much without understanding basic commands like "kneel", "get dressed", "get undressed", "clean this", etc.

Secondly, a sissy would need to answer questions asked by Dominants, e.g. "Yes, I am wearing a chastity cage."

A third use for language would be asking questions and receiving information. Even a sissy who only obeys orders will sometimes need to request more information. This is especially true for sissies trying to learn how to feminize themselves. Examples of these exchanges might be "Would you want tea or coffee, Miss?", or "What is the best way to shave my legs?".

Fourthly, a sissy may want to express her desire or love for something. Examples: "I like wearing cute dresses!" or "I love to suck cock!"

Of course, there are many other ways to answer the question of how sissies use language. Is there anything you would add to this model? Or maybe you would structure it in a different way entirely?

Unfortunately Sissyish development has been in a bit of a slump. Of course, working on Sissyish has been difficult for me since losing access to my Discord account (speaking of which, if anyone is still on the Discord, please let them know what happened and that the subreddit will be be more active)

However, I think there are other contributing factors. One of these has been my focus on tedious issues like phonology and word lists. While these aspects can have their uses, they are counterintuitively not very fun for sissies to develop.
