Wanting to play through HK again and not sure what to play.
I've done decker, rigger, mage, shaman, physad, rifle sam, cybered melee sam, mystic adept (physad+mage), pure support caster (mage+shaman), spider (decker+rigger), and a cybered physad.
Not sure what is left to play as. Any suggestions on something unique and fun to play?
I just got to the point in Dragonfall where I can now hire mercenaries to come on missions but does this mean my normal team members then miss out on the level ups because they don't come?
After completing once with sword cyber-adept I wish to try pistols next. Pistols were really good in DF especially the slapdash pistol with guaranteed crits, how are they in HK?
There's this whip cyberweapon too which has short range too like pistol, would it pair well it pistols?
I made this topic a couple week ago asking for other games, and people were only able to name the obvious ones. Are there really no other games with FAN MADE, story rich campaigns outside of the following?
Simply saying that there's a lot of games that have this doesn't help me.
Here's the ones that I know of:
Half-Life 1 and 2
Neverwinter Nights
Games where it's super easy to fuck up the installation, such asBethesda games(Including Skyrim. These are so easy to fuck up the installation.)
Shadowrun Trilogy(obviously.)
Some puzzle and strategy games,(I'm bad at both, so no thanks.) including Battle For Wesnoth, Mount and Blade, and Portal
Fallout 1 and 2, and Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
Someone mentioned Solasta Crown of the Magister, but they weren't able to name any specific custom campaigns that they really like.
Optional: Please recommend some specific campaigns.
Several of you said that there's a lot more games that have several fan made, story rich campaigns. Can you please, please point them out to me?
Can we buy multiple of the same fetish? I just bought spirit fetish earlier and it is in shop again for purchase, is it a bug or intended?
What are the maximum checks of each attributes in Hong Kong especially charisma?
I'm looking at price trackers and it seems to be stuck at $40 for the trilogy, does the Windows store version ever go on sale?
Really confused about which cyberware to get for melee (sword):
In Returns and Dragonfall I picked socialite, because I thought surely there will be some uses, high status contracts/missions, etc, but nope, in both games there was grand total of 0 skill checks for socialite, and I did all the side quests (only exception being the Luca Duerr ones) and talked to everyone.
So is Hong Kong the same? Is there any actual point in taking it?
Namely, they announced their next game: https://www.harebrained-schemes.com/blog/announcing-graft
They don't have the Shadowrun IP anymore, but looking at the trailer I have the slight suspicion that they aren't quite done with cyberpunk yet.
This time with quite a bit more horror too.
I've been skimming their blog, they don't have a physical place to work at anymore but they make do and seem to have brought back/kept folks who worked on the shadowrun games. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I'm already glad they are holding out despite the complicated state of the industry, and I wish them to deliver a real little gem.
Edit: And if you got a steam or epic account and would like to help, please wish-list the game. It's a method many devs don't like, but there's often not much other choice to convince partners a game will find it's public.

New to Hong Kong and first build! I'm using machete and just got shock glove. If I get a cyberweapon like shock hand will I still be able to use other weapons like my machete/shock glove??
I know about Bethesda games, and Half-Life(and other steam games like Portal, but I'm not into puzzle games.) but what else? Bonus points if they're actually easy to install without messing up your game and forcing you do a fresh uninstall like Bethesda games.
The games can be from any genre as long as the focus isn't complex strategy, puzzle solving, qte, or rhthym. RPGs and story rich action games are ideal.
I thought it was just going to be the original campaign in the new engine but wow they really added in a ton of stuff, gameplay and story wise. I already loved the original Returns but they took it and polished it big time. It's more like a reboot than a remaster. Highly suggest it if you haven't played it.
Even post game after everything you've been through, helping her side quest she planned that was dog shit because she's emotional and a fuck up, and everything else she's still like leave me alone, don't talk to me, I don't like talking to you because you're boring, go away.
Like Jesus you can be an introvert without being an insufferable bitch. Her personality is shallower than a sauce pan. I LiKe ThE iNtErNeT. I get being like that at the beginning of the game but to never warm up to the player ever? One of the best arcs of dragonfall is when Eiger comes around. But no character development for Isobel. She starts a cunt and finishes that way.
Thank God I'm a decker and never had to bring her besides her quest where she's a prerequisite so I didn't have to tolerate her.
Anyways this concludes your 10 minutes of hate
I'm thinking about going back to this UGC, after a long hiatus. My last try went belly up when I couldn't get past the fight in the caves where all but one enemy is invulnerable.
So, how much karma can I expect to get in this story? I've heard that it's relatively low. Maybe not the absolute max, but a guesstimate so I can plan my character out. I have an idea what kind of character I want, but I don't want to overspend on stuff that may not be absolutely required.
But I'm told by users the hit percentage numbers are accurate and I'm just crazy unlucky
Trying to run through and dodge all the stupid ic bots is tedious, anxiety inducing and beyond fucking stupid. The hacking fucking sucks. I'm not good at short term numerical memorization. I hate everything about the new matrix, even the way you fucking glide around instead of running like the old games. They took my favorite part of the game and turned it into complete shit. I fucking hate it so fucking much
Edit: started using a notepad app on my phone and voice typing on the longer sequences so easy mode now lol
So, I kept seeing things floating around on here about a certain fate befalling a certain member of the team if certain files aren't removed from Telestrian's databases. It sounded like, at some point, this would all be covered in a conversation, possibly endgame?, that ends with a distinctly wet exclamation point that was difficult to avoid.
I took said certain character on the run that took us into Telestrian's databases, and the identity I picked gave me access to some nodes, but not all (there was a surprising amount that Violet continually lacked the stats to be able to do), and one of the nodes that was forbidden to me was HR.
Was that one needed to see all of this? I finished game and things ended after my call to Sam's lawyer, but it felt like I really missed something here. Thoughts from anyone on it?
I've been narrowing things down and I want to do a Mage with slight Shaman stuff (mostly a totem and a couple etiquettes because the magic stuff is interesting and different from the build I used in Returns, and I'd like to know what mage spells are useful and totems that work well as a mage or as support. Not entirely sure if I want to be more of an offensive or defensive mage, though, and could use some advice on what spells are good for each.
I imagine Wild Huntsman is a good totem either way, because it works on the player and with Eiger as well.
From my last attempt at a mage run, I know that they get unique dialogue options which is an influence on my choice to play as one. (I played as an AR Street Sam in Returns, so ultimately decided Mage as a different choice)
So, I've played the trilogy for years on PC and loved it, start to finish, though I found Returns to be mostly forgettable. It wasn't long before I came across Cirion's trilogy and loved it at least as much as the original series.
I recently picked the trilogy up on the Switch and...guys...folks...people. It's rough. The control scheme definitely wasn't made for console, and the bugs in the last swath of Dragonfall were enough to make me want to throw my Switch across the room, multiple times.
But, I persisted and made it through. And am back in front of my PC to try Vox Populi for the first time.
Like I said, I barely remember Returns, but am already enjoying the hell out of VP, even after only having gotten Shannon. It's going to take a lot to match the twists, turns, and objective improvement that CalFree brought over the original, but I think I'm making a point not to compare them and just to enjoy the ride.
A lot of great folks have poured a lot of love into these games, and I know more than a few of them hang around here, so I just wanted to say thank you. Everything you've done has given me more of one of my favorite series(es?) to enjoy, and you've all done an amazing job.
