Dinner for 16 for next week near convention center

Greetings from Milwaukee, WI!

We have a team traveling to your lovely city for an event next week and just had a last minute request for a dinner location for 16 people near the convention center for 7:30/8pm dinner. This will be for company leadership, staff and clients for next Tuesday night, so ideally we're looking for something a bit more upscale. Does anyone have suggestions for us?

Help me, reddit. You're my only hope (beyond random Googling). TIA!

Has anyone ever been to Chris's BBQ Life?

I am very interested in trying out Chris's BBQ Life as I feel that barbecue place has great food and good prices, I feel it's a hole in the wall type of joint.

Restaurants of yesteryear

I'm from SA but now live closer to Austin. Someone posted in r/austinfood about old restaurants that are no longer with us. Thought it would be fun to see what people miss in my hometown. For me, I think about Po' Folks quite often. So good.

Bonus points if you name a restaurant my dad worked at. He was a cook at a few places back in the day. Lol

Kolaches

We’re in San Antonio until Saturday. I was told I need to find Kolaches to bring home. Staying within the 1604 loop of that helps where can I go?

Canadian Ketchup Chips

Anybody know where I can find ketchup chips in SA? I need them on a normal day, but now I’m pregnant and I NEED them.

Preferably Old Dutch, but I’ll settle for Lays!

Anybody know where to get Manhattan clam chowder in SA?

Been looking for a Manhattan clam chowder, but nobody seems to have it. Yelp lists the top 10 places to get it, but when you go to the restaurants website, at most, they have New England clam chowder or no clam chowder at all.

Looking for fun takeout recommendations

Hi San Antonio food! My friends and I are planning a trip to SATX next month and we are hoping to order some yummy, fancy and/or special takeout food on our first night there. I’d greatly appreciate recommendations if you have any.

Any cuisine is good. And we will be staying central, near 35 and 281, if that helps. Thanks in advance!

New Coffee Shop - Los Patios

Okay, first, let me start by saying that I do not own nor work for this coffee shop. (My post was taken down for self-promotion on another Subreddit.) I went here for a coffee meeting earlier and noticed it is very new and offset from the Highway, so I wanted to be sure to share this new hidden gem!

I asked if they had anything I could share here to get the word out and they provided me a flyer - seems the flyer gives 20% off if you show them it so here it is.

I am told it is locally owned and operated and the coffee is cheaper then the large chains and the atmosphere is beautiful as it is on Los Patios so it is a quiet place for coffee meetings like I had earlier. Nothing too fancy but it does have all the great standards. Cute place and I was told they will turn on the fireplace when the weather calls for it. (Date spot??)

Los Patios has been around for a good long while in this town and it is good to see new things opening up here, they also have a Saladworks on Los Patios now which I will have to go back and try sometime.

Flyer from the coffee shop - Had them email it to me to share

, and they provided me with a flyer. It seems the flyer gives 20% off if you show it to them,

Restaurants open on Christmas Day?

We don't need anything fancy but we would like a good meal. We're leaving early the next morning so don't want to cook and aren't planning to do much celebrating on Christmas Day, just before and after.

Prefer NW area.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times so sorry about that. I’m interested in great Mexican food within reasonable driving distance of the River walk. I especially like mole sauce dishes. Appreciate the help

Angel’s Mexican Home Of Stalkers

I received this early this morning. Just me paying for breakfast at Angel’s Mexican Haven on Commerce. I guess the staff is now actively helping this woman harass and stalk me.

Food recommendations in TPC

From Austin, in town for a conference in the TPC area (jw Marriott area). Looking to try something y'all would recommend in the area.

I'd probably lean towards texmex better than I can get in Austin or Asian.

No dietary restrictions.

I appreciate the recommendations!

Pressed Chicken in SATX?

Does anyone know if there's a Chinese restaurant in San Antonio that cooks a dish called "pressed chicken?"

PRESSED CHICKEN - Breast of chicken dipped in egg batter, fried until golden brown, topped with mixed Chinese vegetables, gravy, and topped with crushed peanuts and green onion.

Also seen it as Hong Sue Chicken. I’m not that well-traveled but if I’ve been somewhere in the US, I’ve probably had Chinese food there. I love this dish. In the western Kentucky town of Paducah, a restaurant called Chong’s lists this “pressed chicken.” That’s where I fell in love with it. New Star restaurant on North Avenue in Elmwood Park, IL has it listed as Hong Sue. I couldn’t find it Chinatown Chicago, but I have a favorite there and rarely deviate from it.

Hey guys, I'm visiting pretty soon and am crazy excited to check out the Tex Mex scene. A couple of questions if you could indulge me!

  1. Know any solid and budget friendly vegan or vegetarian Tex Mex restaurants? Any specific dishes that I would kick myself for not trying?
  2. Any places where I can find the following: zapote négro, huitlacoche, chapaya, Pacaya, pulque, canistel, Prickly Pear ice cream/nieve de tuna, tejate, Chamango, raicilla, olosapo, monstera deliciosa, mole blanco

Thank you!! It's a UNESCO Food City and I'm really looking forward to checking it out.

Dairy Allergy Friendly Restaurants?

Hi y’all! I’m up to my eyebrows in stress about finding a dairy allergy friendly restaurant in town. We are visiting from Lockhart, which doesn’t have many restaurants outside of BBQ, so I’m not sure where to look. Most places don’t have allergen menu’s available online, so I’m asking for your wisdom!

My daughter has developed a dairy allergy resulting in full body hives, so we are trying to find somewhere we can go that she can have a meal also. We know Freebirds and Chuy’s is safe, but lately Chuy’s has been too “spicy” for her little taste buds. She isn’t too picky, she likes meat, beans, and vegetables, just can’t have any dairy.

Any recommendations on restaurants that are more dairy allergy friendly, outside of BBQ, would be amazing! Thank you! 🙏🏻

In town for a few days. Looking for food recommendations.

I'll be in town for a few days in the near future and am looking for some really good food. I'm from out of state, so I really want a good example of San Antonio food. Especially BBQ as I've always heard about TX BBQ being great. I'll be staying near the river walk, but am willing to drive a good bit if it's worth it.
