My 16yo is on spring break so we’ve been sucked in by gems, and ended up watching you tube rock hounds all day. We are in NC and my mom is in TN, we go through Asheville to get there from the coast.
He was really into this so I said I’d love to go do this with him, we can take a day or two next time we pass through.
Anyone know a good place that isn’t a tourist trap? (Like Asheville is lol) We’ve camped in Uwharri, so sure we can pan for gold there but he really wants to find some gem stones on this trip. He’s even got his uv light and magnets ready to go 😆
Hi, we will be traveling from Bainbridge Island to our home in California along the coast. My husband is handicap (MS) he can still walk, but not real stable. I was looking for suggestions on where to hunt for some rocks? Any ideas?
Anyone know of any spots to rock hound in that area? I want to stay away from any salted tourist traps. The picture is of some finds from a salted mine in the west of North Carolina. Definitely got some cool pieces but it's not the same experience in my eyes.
We're planning on a trip near Sherbrooke, Quebec soon and are wondering if there are any decent rockhounding spots nearby. Thanks!
Found at Dunure Beach, South Ayrshire, West Scotland for those interested. It's surface is about 13mm by 13mm.
I've seen some local people find awesome colored agate and petrified wood around the Rio Puerco area but they won't tell me where. Does anybody know the area where they are finding it? I've driven to the Rio Puerco on Hwy 6 but there is not really any stones around there just mainly dirt and mud.
I will be on a cruise in Alaska in late May. Ports of call include Juneau, Skagway and Ketchican and also Prince Rupert BC. If I have time, where can I rockhound?
the rain really helps my collection pop. all of these were found in northern Michigan
For scale, the middle/$8 one is about 4” across. I feel like I got a pretty good deal!
