Rate My AF Base: A subreddit for discussing installations
Rate My AFB is a subreddit to discuss installations and units. Although designed for Air Force Bases, feel free to discuss Army, Navy, and USMC installations as well!
1. No OPSEC breaches. Patrol routes and shift pass times; manning numbers; classified missions; Forward Operating Bases; Deployment Locations; etc. Violators may be banned and reported to AFOSI for investigation.
2. Be civil. This isn't AFForums.
3. Check the wiki/search before posting. If it is a large base, chances are that someone's been there before. If it's locked due to being archived, feel free to post another.
Wiki Shortcut
4. Post about the installation. If you are curious about a specific unit, post in the appropriate installation discussion.
5. Keep off-topic posts to an off-topic thread. News about an installation, jokes about an AFSC, etc all fall under this.
6. No poolee/DEP/questions about joining the military. The /r/AirForce subreddit has a weekly sticky for it; post there. Retrainee questions about the job at a base are okay though.
7. No "It's what you make of it" type comments. Be constructive. For example, "the installation is great for people that love city life" or "outdoorsy people will find plenty to do with skiing, hiking, and ATVing" work better for those "special" locations.

Got my orders to Hurlburt Field and am pretty excited. Curious if anyone had any experience with the base, advice, recommendations for the area or anything they want to share?
Sponsor already sent me pictures of my dorm room so I know what to expect with that. Mostly interested in the base itself and what’s around.
PCSing there this summer with a family of 5. I was wondering what are the best options for housing if on base is good and recommended or if is better to buy a house offbase. Im Contracting, any insights on how it is 6C over there?
Got my first assignment to McConnell as POL, will live in dorm. I have done some research on reddit already, but I understand some information from over a year ago might be outdated. I would like to learn anything about it.
I'm not a very outdoor person but I do love great food. What are some typical food there?
Please tell me everything you know about Holloman, work tempo/housing/off base life! I am pcsing there in July, my job is ammo.
Deros of Oct 2024 Looking for literally anything else
Just got orders to Kirtland AFB. I've been told it's the better of the New Mexico bases but I would rather be elsewhere. Can someone let me know what it's like there, best places to live, cost of living? Also if you want to trade or know anyone willing to trade please let me know
Just got my first duty station, and from what I’ve read online single junior airmen live in the dorms @ Nellis AFB and commute about an hour which sounds like it sucks. I hear that living in NW Vegas cuts the commute in half basically which doesn’t sound as bad but on average how long does it take to get out of the dorms is it a faster process for someone like me because of the situation or is Uncle Sam giving me the middle finger
Single airman, which base would fit best?
Hey guys, I am a 4N that is PCSing to Keesler AFB soon. I just wanted to know a few things. which town/area is the best to live in? What are some fun things to do around there? Any if there is any advice, or things that I should try.
How’s Dyess for global strike
From Dallas,Tx. Looking for suggestions for good air force bases. I like chill laid back stuff like small bars, lounges, beaches, fishing, museum going, parks, football.

Hello I found out recently I’ll be stationed at homestead and as active duty maintenance I was curious what to expect and also some goods areas for apartments or housing
Or lackland for long
Does anyone have have any info on this base for PMEL, what the work flow is like? Also what’s the area like for young couple with no kids?
Seymour Johnson.. how if life here ?? Also, I am weapons maintenance
Hey y’all, I am going to be a new 2lt soon and I’m headed to Whiteman for my first assignment. I see a lot of stuff on what the enlisted side is like there, but want to hear about more things. When living off base where should I look? I’ve been told Warrensburg and lees summit, but haven’t really seen anything that has caught my eye yet for a great deal. What’s the best local food places? And how is the community overall?

I’m PCSing to Scott this summer with a wife and 3 young kiddos. Looking for details for on-base housing, the base community, and things to do with kids in and around St. Louis if anyone has insights.
Good afternoon,
I’ve received my BOP at Fairchild AFB and expect to arrive next year in February. I’ll be joining the 92nd LRS. I’m looking at living on base and wanted to see how people’s experiences have been so far living on base?
Have offutt as an option I can go to, can anyone tell me about the area and off base housing market.. what’s there to do and pretty much anything else you can share and also about the day to day of an ammo troop there
2w0x1, single E-4
Checked manning for BOP options and there enough billets as of right now for the below list as I didn’t want to waste an option.
I enjoy time inside but also love the outdoors, beach, hiking, snowboarding, good food, etc. Not looking for heavy ops tempo base nor heavy commute times. I know that’s asking a lot however, if you have lived near any or been stationed at one let me know, good, bad, and the ugly.
Stuff to do around here? Only here for tech school.
We’ve been at Fort Leonard Wood the past 4 years; the schools and hunting have been great for the kiddos and my husband. I have a GS position (I’m former active duty & would like to retire from the GS world) that I enjoy.
The bummers of FLW: If we need/want something that Walmart or the Exchange doesn’t carry, decent restaurants, or family fun, it’s a 1-2 hour drive to Osage Beach, Springfield or STL. This has been our main beef with FLW; very little to do close by without an inconvenient drive. Few bands or comedians stop in MO. Honestly, I don’t blame them but ugh.
My husband has 2 years left (Security Forces) until retirement. We plan to return to Texas (both from there/families are there) and hopefully land some GS positions. So, we ideally would like a base close to TX, however, we are open to Scott due to the great things we’ve heard (it’s about 2.5 hours from us currently and we’ve been through the area. The idea of being able to go scout it out is appealing)
Wants: Good schools - we have twin 9 year olds
Safe location w/desirable housing - we have always lived off base, but wound up moving on FLW due to.. our surroundings 😬 Missouri is weird, but FLW housing has been surprisingly great. Open to either on or off base.
Convenient access to specialty medical care
GS positions
Family fun
Fun in general - missing “life” and easy access to good food, shopping, live entertainment
Convenient airport access
Hunting - for my spouse. I enjoy outdoorsy stuff, but FLW has kind of ruined it (holy shit the TICKS!)
Bases in consideration (no particular order): Altus, Barksdale, Dyess, Holloman, Little Rock & Scott
Others available, but are far from TX (a couple of these would be so ideal 🥲): Beale, Cape Cod, Cavalier, Hill, Los Angeles, Minot, Nellis, Palmdale & Vandenburg
We greatly appreciate any insight y’all may have! Edited: formatting/mobile probs

I've heard the stories and even the caption it says on the homepage, "Only the brave go north." How is Minot nowadays? I'm being stationed there as my first assignment unfortunately.
Hello!
I'm supply and have recently put in BOP for 3 bases one being Grand Forks, seen some old reviews and I was wondering if there was anyone from Supply here who could voice their opinions. Any other opinions I am welcome to
I'm currently at barksdale and prefer the simple life. I say I like the cold but let's see if that's true there!
Im an E4 single with a dog (husky). Trying to get into base housing so I'd like to know how difficult that may be! I've seen some vids and they seem cozy.
I'm confident in getting grand forks since it's a high demand for people base like Minot.

Hey everyone,
I've been working in tech at a local air force base and have been interested in working abroad at an American military base out of the country. I interviewed for a job at Ghedi Air Base, which everyone here raves about, but unfortunately I didn't get it. I'm looking at a job listing that popped up at Amendola Air Base but I'm having trouble finding much about that base or that area of Italy.
Anyone familiar with Amendola Air Base?
