I understand most places in RVA are progressive and this is not to take away from that but I was interested in hearing any non-customer facing/non-retail/office jobs in Richmond that are very open with queer ppl. Preferably in a creative field or dealing with creatives? Open to hearing all suggestions!
Long shot, but did anyone pick up/see two fountain pens today (5-8PM) on the intersection of S. Cherry St. and Cumberland St. or W. Cary and S. Cherry St? One was a black Montblanc 146 (black, gold trim, screw cap) with a monogrammed name (not sharing for privacy purposes but if you have seen it I can confirm the name for proof) and the other was a Faber Castell Loom Gunmetal Matte (gray-brown body, black snap cap with a silver clip). Please chat/DM me if you've seen them, they're super important to me :,) Images attached of what they look like!
Hi! I’m looking for some hair salon / stylist recommendations for a perm. Ideally I’m looking for a sheep perm or soft spiral perm. I have straight hair with some layers and I absolutely hate styling it in the morning since I start my day very early. RVA & willing to drive as far as NOVA
What festive drinks have you had? I keep getting peppermint mochas. At advent night i mixed coffee, swiss miss and a candy cane
Are you ready for the holidays?
Hi, I am planning on switching to Mint Mobile network, but I hope to get some genuine reviews on its connectivity and network in Richmond. Fire away!
Long story short, I have an older kitten that's had an eye removed some months ago due to corneal ulcers, she's having some issues that I suspect are related to food allergies(she's ITCHY, she's got a rash above the eye that's been removed and she's constantly rubbing at her face, and this gets worse when she eats), but her current vet is insistent that she's just got feline herpes, and she refuses to do the FHV test I'm requesting and wont test for allergies either... I don't doubt that she also has FHV, but I, as her advocate, want to see those results. She also won't administer her final FVRCP booster, and made some comments about there being nothing to do to help a cat with herpes, which is enough for me to move on.
Is anyone's vets accepting new patients? I've looked at Jones and scotts addition, but they aren't. Low cost is a plus, but I reeeeeally want to get her checked out before Christmas. My poor baby is so uncomfortable :(
Hey there! I'm researching resources for a friend's new business and looking to connect with local business organizations, associations, or events where business owners network. So far, I've found Women in Business RVA and Revenue Renegades, both of which seem to host monthly meetups. Are there any other similar groups or events you’d recommend?
Has anyone stayed at the homeagain shelter for families? If so, what is it like? Do you have a private room like an extended stay? With a private bathroom and kitchen?
My family has been through the works these last few months and have finally got accepted. I’m just curious of what we’re getting into. I know the resources are Phenomenal for permanent housing but is that the same for the temporary living space?
Loose dog found in Byrd park, white and tan pit mix ~50 lbs. wearing a light blue harness. On the intersection of Park and Blanton Ave. No photos but won’t let any approach.
We’re hiring a muralist (and very good friend) for a project who is coming from out of town and he’s hoping to buy his spray paint here, rather than trying to travel with or ship paint here. Are there any good stores in RVA that local artists recommend?
We will host our last stargazing event at our observatory for the year this Thursday, from 7 - 9 PM. We'll open back up in February once our Spring semester starts.
Jupiter and Saturn will both be visible, as well as the Andromeda galaxy, the Pleiades, and other great targets. Be sure to dress warm!
We're on campus at Randolph-Macon College, up in Ashland, at the corner of Caroline and Calhoun Street. Parking is free, and you can enter at the doors facing Caroline Street.
NOTE: This is dependent on the weather. We will post updates on our Instagram page (@keebleobservatory) when we open or close. It is highly suggested that you check our page before coming out.
Richmond’s top election official resigned Wednesday after an investigation by the city’s inspector general found evidence that his office misused half a million dollars in taxpayer money.
The Richmond Electoral Board accepted General Registrar Keith Balmer’s resignation in a closed session. Deputy Registrar Jerry Richardson also stepped down from her post prior to the meeting, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch (u/TheTimes-Dispatch). The meeting came after Inspector General James Osuna released a November report that found support for 25 of 26 allegations of misconduct in Balmer’s office.
The claims included the Office of Elections spending over $200,000 on a security service hired without the proper procurement process — despite the city already having a security service under contract.
Balmer and others in the election office also allegedly used funds to decorate their offices — including a $7,585 order from local furniture store LaDIFF.
“I will be addressing this IG report in the coming days. And I got a lot to say,” Balmer posted to X — from the Office of Elections’ official account — after Osuna’s report was released.
I moved from Chesterfield to the South Side. I haven’t been to the parade in along time and plan to take my grandson. Where are good places to park?
My child is applying to Appomattox regional governors school with a focus in technology and will have to present a project to the admissions team in January. Can anyone give me an idea of the types of projects typically presented for this focus area?
I'm looking for a garage with electricity (preferably in The Fan/Museum District) or small studio space to rent monthly (ideally $200-$300/mo). My partner is a dancer, and while he already practices at a dance studio he teaches at and utilizes commercial gym studio rooms, I would love to be able to find him his own space so he can always have access to one.
So far I've searched Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, local yoga and dance studios, and called a few property management companies in the areas to see if they have any vacancies for monthly rentals - but no luck. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I have always wanted to learn a new language so, as my new year's resolution, I have decided to learn Chinese. I have found a ton of useful resources and learning apps online, but I think an in person class would be extremely helpful as well. Are there any good ones in Richmond? I mainly see Spanish classes (I will learn you next bb girl, dont you worry), but no Chinese. Any help is appreciated.
Hi everyone! Your friendly east end PTA mom here to shamelessly ask for your generosity this holiday season. In this ... climate... Of political/funding transition, our public school kiddos could use some extra support more than ever!
There is a big push this year as directed by RPS parent advisory council to create a uniformed PTA structure for all schools to support families and faculty/staff year round. The hope is that this improves a sense of community, equity and communication between each other. This will take time, dedication, and patience as consistent school supports are built. Which means, now is a great opportunity to get to know your existing PTAs!
Many schools use the holidays as a vehicle for PTA fundraising. Each budget varies year to year and school to school based on need and leadership - but the common goal is ALWAYS to encourage all kids to learn and grow with as few obstacles as possible.
I was hoping we could use this thread for any caregiver or teacher (in any local county, not just RPS) to share any classroom wish lists, drives, markets, raffles, whatever so any merry folks in this sub can donate and learn more about our public schools - or even just help spreading the word.
I can start with my own zoned school - Chimborazo ES. The PTA is offering bakery/chef-made cookies by the box for $40. Think of some of your favorite rva spots offering desert in one place- Grisette, Sugar + Twine + Liberty Public House (and quite a few more!) are donating baked goods to enjoy. Pick up will be at the school in church hill. Link here we have a limited quantity and would LOVE to sell out!
Now it's y'all's turn. Let's share the love and see what other opportunities may exist for some cheerful giving. 🫶
{Mods, pls let me know if this should be moved to the B/S/T thread}
Maybe a small water main break. It looks like flooding coming out from the sidewalk. Multiple city vehicles parked in the adjacent areas.
I've heard that the only way to get solutions with DPU issues is to go in person, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to actually go? On the website, it lists an address at 900 E. Broad Street. But then I also see people reference a Church Hill location, where is that? Any advice on which location to go to or tips for having a success visit? Thanks!
I am healing my foot and looking for good physical therapy, preferably in the the West End of Richmond/Henrico. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
I resell clothes to consignment shops fairly regularly and I have a pretty large haul of trendy clothes in good condition. With the holidays coming up I'd like to donate them instead of selling but I don't want to take them to a thrift I want people to have them for free. Does anyone have recommendations for somewhere or ideas for getting them out to people who would appreciate them?
