Tomorrow! Screening of A Bridge to Life at Virginia Museum of History and Culture

Watch A Bridge to Life, a documentary by Virginia filmmaker Chris Farina, tomorrow (9/29) at 2:30 PM at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. The film follows a local group supporting men with addiction issues.

Event Details

The screening is part of the "Voices of Collaboration and Justice" series, which also includes a short doc on the HARP program (peer-to-peer recovery in prison), followed by a 30-minute panel.

It’s a beautiful watch for anyone interested in prison reform, addiction recovery, or supporting a local filmmaker still working despite his ALS diagnosis.

Are there any more frequent plant swap/plant lover gatherings in RVA?

I am aware you can book tickets to The Plant House and make some different things like terrariums, moss bowls, etc.. However, I was hoping for more of a semi regular plant swap or general plant lover gathering. I can’t seem to find anything geared towards that. Am I just not searching the right parts of the interwebs?

Virginia Director Chris Farina’s new documentary will screen 9/29 at Virginia Museum of History and Culture

Chris Farina, a Virginia filmmaker dealing with ALS, will have a new documentary, A Bridge to Life, play as part of the Richmond International Film Festival this Sunday, 9/29, at 2:30 PM at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. The film is about a local organization helping men dealing with life-threatening addiction issues.

Event details.

The screening is part of the Voices of Collaboration and Justice series, which also includes a short documentary about the Helping Addicts Recover Progressively (HARP) program, a peer-to-peer recovery program run by those incarcerated. A 30-minute panel will follow.

Chris Farina has long been dedicated to showcasing Virginia's everyday heroes. Despite his ALS diagnosis in 2022, his passion for storytelling and community impact remains strong.

This event is perfect for those interested in prison reform, addiction recovery, mental health, community safety, or anyone wishing to support a beloved local filmmaker in an inspiring setting!

OCD Community Walk October 5th

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a fun opportunity for anyone in Richmond who has OCD or knows someone with OCD--

On October 5th, OCD Mid-Atlantic (a local non-profit) is hosting an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Awareness Walk in Deep Run Park (learn more/register here: Richmond OCD Walk) These walks have helped me meet some awesome community members (now friends!) and feel less alone in my recovery! There will be live music, food, and a community of people who understand how challenging it is to live with OCD and related disorders (like Hoarding and BFRBs). Funds go to support OCD Mid-Atlantic and the International OCD Foundation in their mission to increase OCD Awareness and access to treatment.

Horror Movie Red Carpet Premiere in Ashland!

My non-profit is trying something cool on November 7th. If it's a success then...well...we are already in talks with a big indie distributor of doing it more often.

Broken Innocence is a new Horror/Revenge Thriller starring Paul T Taylor (Pinhead in Hellraiser: Judgment) and local actress Arianna Harris (both will be on hand for a Q&A, autographs and photos).

Because we're a non-profit, We will also have a psychologist on hand to discuss healthy methods of healing from childhood abuse. In addition, we'll be showcasing a few locally made Horror shorts as well!

Tickets are on sale now and we'd love for all the Horror fans in the area to support this!
More info and tickets at the link!

FVA Info Session

UPDATE: CANCELLED. Hi, all! I am an advocacy organizer for the nonpartisan nonprofit advocacy group Freedom Virginia. I promise you we are not MAGA lol. We work on affordability issues such as medicine, healthcare, and childcare, as well as paid medical and family leave, tax fairness, and raising the minimum wage. I am hosting an info session after a very fun coffee hour last week to give the community an opportunity to learn more about us and how they can get involved. This is completely free and open to the public. There will be access to a playground for kids and light refreshments will be available. You can sign up here. I hope to see you there!
