The VCU Department of Music will have its 37th annual Holiday Gala on Friday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Vlahcevic Concert Hall in VCU's W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Avenue. The program of Holiday music will feature VCU's Jazz Orchestra I, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Commonwealth Singers, the Guitar Ensembles, and other VCU ensembles. Proceeds from this festive event benefit The Doorways.

Special edition of our Mushroom Cultivation Workshop on Dec. 7th from 3 - 6 p.m. You will learn the skills needed to grow your own gourmet and medicinal mushrooms at home. We’ll cover everything from the basics to some more advanced growing techniques. This course is open to beginners.
As a bonus, we’ll also dive into crafting functional mushroom beverages, giving you the know-how to use the mushrooms you cultivate. Folkish will be joining us to provide an intro to working with agar, a skill that opens up even more possibilities!
This package includes a ready-to-grow kit (reishi/lions mane/etc). Or you can opt for a choose your own adventure with spores, grain, and substrate.

FutureProjektor is an instrumental ambient metal band from RVA. Started in 2018 by Adam Kravitz , Seth Harris and Brian Metz. Concept of the band is to play singular set broken up into 6-9 sections. Non stop and playing to a custom video in the background. The first 30 minute release titled Terma has the original 3 members. After covid hit Seth and Brian didn’t want to continue. Sean Plunkett and Kevin White were added and complete current member roster. The Kybalion was written. A 40 minute piece in 7 parts. The release show was performed at The Byrd Theatre. They are currently finishing up the latest release titled Eigengrau. An even more complex meaning and song structure.

The VCU Guitar Ensemble and the VCU Community Guitar Ensemble will be featured in concert on Sunday, November 17 at 2:30 p.m. in VCU’s James W. Black Music Center Recital Hall, 1015 Grove Avenue. The program will include works by J.S. Bach, Duke Ellington, and Lennon and McCartney. Admission is free.
The concert will also be livestreamed at go.vcu.edu/concerthall .

This Thursday, 11/14, the University of Richmond is sponsoring a FREE screening of Merry Good Enough. This darkly comic Christmas movie stars Raye and Sawyer Spielberg (AKA daughter-in-law and son of STEVEN SPIELBERG, respectively), Joel Murray (younger brother of BILL Murray), and alt-comedy favorite Neil Casey.
The screening starts at 7 PM EST at the Ukrops Auditorium. Seats are open to the public (and are, as mentioned, completely free). After the film, writer / co-director (and UR alum) Caroline Keene will sit for a Q&A about her movie. Check it out!
