A subreddit to discuss pregabalin, otherwise known under the brand name Lyrica from Pfizer. This prescription drug is used for treatment of various types of pain, seizures, and general anxiety disorder. It is a structural analogue of GABA but does not actually bind to the GABA receptors as benzos do. While it interacts with different parts of the brain to benzos the effects are similar or even enhanced depending on dosage and tolerance.

I'm taking 150mg a day - 75mg in the AM and 75mg before bed. I've been on it for around 6-7 weeks now starting at 25mg and working my way up. The problem is that I keep waking up around 1-2 hours before I need and can't fall back asleep.
Did anyone have a solution to this? I absolutely do not want to come off the meds and it's the only one after trying multiple with horrible side-effects that has worked for my debilitating anxiety. So far I've taken an anti-histamine which works to allow me to sleep longer but gives me side-effects the next day (I'm very sensitive). I'm thinking of maybe taking less dose in my morning dose then having a smaller dose around 4-5pm, then my usual evening dose to see if that will mean more in my system around the time I'm usually waking up? I think it is due to my body suddenly not having enough in its system because I've been on it before and the only withdrawal symptom I had coming off when cutting 25mg was the exact same issue of waking up too early unable to fall back asleep. Or do I just keep increasing my dose in the hope it will go away then?
Appreciate any advice!
My question is do you feel sexually active or horny on the medication?
Apparently after doing x rays and mri they discovered in conclusion: -Well-hydrated lumbar disc materials. -L4/L5&L5/S1 diffuse annular disc bulge. Abutting of nerve roots at lateral recesses. Sparing of neural exit foraminae.
I feel sometimes pain going starting from back to my legs.
I've been on pregabalin for about half a year and have noticed my memory being much worse. I'm not sure if it's caused by the pregabalin or something else because honestly I can't pinpoint when this started. My short term memory in particular is affected, I forget things that were a few days before or even what I'm saying in the middle of a sentence. I'm on 125mg twice daily, could it be a side effect on this dosage?
Started pregabalin a week ago for migraines caused by a meningioma. Tried almost every migraine med already with no help. Anyone try this for migraines?
I was prescribed 50mg daily pregabalin for anxiety as an add on to 20mg lexapro, 10mg Abilify and 50mg trazodone. I started taking it about 6 days ago and I’ve had nothing but panic attacks! Did anyone have panic attacks on this med? Did they subside over time? I’m going to call my psych doctor if they don’t stop.
Have terrible even crippling nerve pain, not only does this address the pain, i feel calm, I can sleep, first time in years that i can sleep, anxiety wow what a difference however, i perhaps got used too / leveraged it IDK, i just feel slow, everything feels slow and I’m not taking in absorbing everything like before, mixed feelings tbh. I Couldn’t switch it off everything was a threat, everything was patterns, everything had to be poked tested, and now I feel a calm that I can’t ever recall feeling calm like this, but it makes me feel dumb…
Since I started taking pregabalin 4 days ago I’ve been freezing, like hands are so cold and it’s hard to warm up. Has anyone else had this symptom? Did it go away? Edit to add I’m on 25mg twice a day for anxiety as an add on to lexapro 20mg.
Hey all, was presribed gabapentin for nerve pain but hoped it would help anxiety too, I've worked up from 100mg-1800mg over the past 8 weeks and it hasn't done anything but make me tired. Wondering is it worth trying pregabalin or are they essentially the same.
I’m on 50mg x2 a day. Been at this dose for about 1.5 weeks. I’ve noticed since starting this med 3 weeks ago my depression has worsened.
I had side effects like: dizziness, sleepiness, increased nerve pains, pins and needles pains, and feeling “high.” But those have mostly subsided.
Now I noticed side effects like: depression, irritation and now constipation are with me. I also find it harder to get out of bed in the mornings. But it’s not cause I’m tired, it’s just hard, idk how to explain it.
Does anyone have experience with the depression going away? I fear that since it’s been 3 weeks already, these are the side effects they will stay.
It’s actually helping my nerve pains, and I can see how the 75x2 would greatly help. I still have pain atm, but it’s muted for sure, and not as bad.
(also why the hell does it seem like I’m experiencing all the side effects possible, do people really not have any issues on this med. like do people exist with no problems at all?? Lmao)
Hi,
I take phenibut twice per week and feel great on the days I’m on but generally an anxious person in general. I don’t really drink alcohol cos I go to the gym a lot and workout so I don’t really wanna get hangovers that will disrupt that, but I have access to pregabalin and benzos.
Would I be ok to alternate, say pregabalin Monday, benzos Tuesday, phenibut Wednesday, pregabalin Thursday, benzos friday, phenibut Saturday, day off Sunday. Etc so im not taking anything more than twice per week. I know you can alternate between benzos and phenibut / pregabalin because they hit different gaba receptors but just wondering about the danger of physical depency from taking phenibut and pregabalin in this manner?
I know there is an argument that phenibut and pregabalin hit the same receptor however so does booze and to my knowledge booze doesn’t contribute to neither phenibut or pregabalin dependency. It might impact tolerance but that’s not what I’m asking I’m asking about risk of dependency.
Hi all I have been on 150mg per day for almost a week, has anyone else suffered a high heart rate? My resting heart rate is 128bpm at the moment and it’s usually around 80bpm
My stomach is constantly swollen on 450mg a day for anxiety. Can anyone recommend anything to help with the water retention. I’ve tried OTC supplements which all seem to be dandelion based and none of it helps me at all. I feel so fat and unhappy.
Any body notice any problems on pregabalin?
Does anyone take this combination for anxiety? I take 20mg lexapro daily and my doctor prescribed me 25mg pregabalin twice daily for anxiety symptoms. Does the combo help anyone?
I’ve been on Pregabalin for nerve pain for roughly a year. It does ok, but does not alleviate all the pain. I went from 300 mg to 200 mg due to the drowsiness, but I’m still really tired all the time and I’m kind of over it. Anyone take a break from this drug or found anything else that alleviates pain without being tired all the time?
I think I want to be done for a bit and maybe just try localized lidocaine patches to see if that will work.
I'm newly taking pregabalin, well about a month now. Started at 25 mg and am now at 75 twice a day, hoping to go up to 3 times a day next month.
I've been dealing with treatment resistant depression for years now, and was starting to feel some improvement before starting this med. Just before starting it I had some intense flare-ups (CRPS and trigeminal neuralgia) that were relentless. My quality of life was plain awful.
The pregabalin is honestly the most helpful thing I've tried for pain in ages. Although I'm still dealing with a lot, I'm not locked into my body without escape. The thing is, my thinking is extremely cloudy, I struggle to stay awake during the day, and my depression has worsened. I don't actually enjoy anything and feel dumb.
I feel stuck. I keep telling myself "stay the course" and hope it will improve with time. I can't face going back to the way my pain was just before starting, and I can't face going on like this indefinitely.
Has anyone else had depression worsen on pregabalin and been able to successfully address it?
I just feel so defeated. I'm not participating in life or able to enjoy the improvement in pain.
I have an appointment coming up and will discuss with my PCP and pain specialist, but am hoping for input from people who have experienced it themselves.
FWIW, I've been at this for over 20 years and have exhausted treatment options (blocks, simulators, meds, etc). The only thing left for me to try is ketamine, but it's out of reach financially.
I have such hopes of this working out.
Thank you for any insight.
Has anyone else experienced this? And did you find a way to make it stop? Helpppp
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out for advice and support. I was recently prescribed 50 mg of pregabalin daily (25 mg twice a day) by my psychiatrist, but I’m feeling anxious about starting it. I had a really rough experience with Zoloft, which I had to stop due to severe side effects and, in my opinion, poorly managed dosage increases. That led to about four months of intense withdrawal symptoms, and I’ve struggled with medication sensitivity ever since.
On top of that, I’m currently tapering off a benzodiazepine very slowly and am now on a low dose. I initially switched from Xanax to a longer-acting benzo to make the tapering easier. For a period, I was also prescribed Abilify, which I no longer take, but the experience has made me even more cautious about adding new medications.
I’m hoping to hear from anyone who’s started pregabalin after going through something similar, especially with SSRI withdrawal or benzo tapering. How did pregabalin affect you in the beginning? Did it help with anxiety without too many side effects? I’d appreciate any tips on managing potential side effects or anything else I should consider.
Thanks a lot for your time and any advice you can share.
Hi all, am currently on 15mg mirtazapine a night, also pregabalin 100mg at night, and another 25mg pregabalin in the morning. The last few days I’ve slept well, woken up fairly easily, but a few hours after taking the 25mg pregabalin in the morning I’m super drowsy. Thinking about dropping this dose to see if it helps - I started the morning dose as I was feeling a bit anxious during the day so it was helping get me through. Has anyone had this kind of scenario and dropped a daytime dose with no issues? Thanks!
I feel like the ADHD medication works abit, but maybe not enough?? I’m on a starting dose of 18mg and I take 150mg of pregabalin morning and night. The doctors didn’t mention the cross over, should I ask to reduce my pregabalin? I remember when I first got prescribed pregabalin and it felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders, now it feels like something I feel sad about having to take
Hello! I'm on pregablin (as well as opiates) to manage very strong pain while I'm recovering from burns (please don't use boiling water in hot water bottles!). While I've been on it, the symptoms of my carpal tunnel & radial tunnel are gone. Of course this could also be the opiates, but I'm aware that I'm on pregablin to target nerve pain, and that carpal tunnel and radial tunnel are to do with nerves. So I was wondering if anyone uses pregablin in this way? Thank you for reading 🙂
hi y’all, i know there are many posts about this but i just wanted to share my experience and see if anyone feels this way :’)
i started pregabalin about a week ago, im taking 75mg twice a day. after two weeks, my doctor upped it to 100mg twice a day.
i also take 300mg of bupropion every morning. this medication already gives me bad side effects- heart beating fast, getting winded very easily.
since starting pregablin the side effects have already been so hard on me. the brain fog/confusion is so bad. i went to work and i couldn’t remember my number to clock in (the same number i use nearly everyday for a long time). i told my friend a story in the morning and repeated it in the evening and had no recollection of telling them already.
the lightness in my arms? it feels like all the blood from my limbs rushes to my chest.
has anyone else felt like this? has any one been in this position, waited it out and had the side effects diminish?
thank you so much <3
Is this possible? My son (18yrs old) has been struggling with low mood, anxiety and chronic back ache for 3 years. He’s been on fluoxetine and rispiridone for more than a year and i haven’t really seen any improvement. Now after only 3 days on Lyrica even though he says his back pain is still there he seems happy, motivated and hopeful. Early days but is this possible ?
What can I do? My hands are always shaking and it's hard to type or write. I also get muscle spasms out of nowhere. The med is very good for my anxiety but it's hard to work like this.
I started taking 75mg pregabalin twice a day last Friday for generalised anxiety. I think I'm benefitting from it and I'm thinking about increasing it but I also noticed that I was feeling sort of out of my mind/intoxicated/very confused the first few days of taking it. The feeling of intoxication has gotten somewhat better but I still feel confused a lot and it's definitely impacting my cognition. My thinking has become slower and I struggle to express myself quite a lot.
I'm at university and I really need my brain to work. Can I expect the confusion, slower thinking, trouble expressing myself, etc., to go away in a few weeks?
I started Pregabalin for anxiety, I’ve had mixed results. Sometimes it works other times it doesn’t. Started at 25 mg twice a day and didn’t feel much, went to 50 and it was mostly great until day four. I woke up in the middle of the night with suicidal thoughts. I’m now hesitant to take. Anyone have a similar experience, what should I do? My anxiety is horrible and benzos help some but Pregabalin was much more effective. Also, suffer from depression. Looking for guidance. Thanks
I was originally prescribed gabapentin. I found it exacerbated my athsma/COPD. I had my doctor switch me to pregabalin. Same result. Not surprised since they are from the same family. Anyone else have this happen to them?
I recently started Pre for anxiety and it helped, my depression even lifted. Day four and five it caused depression. Is there an adjustment period? Not sure if I should push through if it’s going to increase depression.
When on Pregabalin I can eat and eat and eat, my stomach is swollen & uncomfortable but I still want to eat more 😬
I was recently prescribed low dose pregabalin for GAD (75mg twice a day) after trying low dose seroquel with no success (it made me sleep way too much and I was extremely groggy/sleepy during daytime 24/7 so I had to stop taking it).
I'm also on two different antidepressants (venlafaxine 225mg and agomelatine 50mg) but they don't do much in terms of my anxiety.
I'd really like to get some relief from my anxiety finally but I'm doing my master's degree at the moment and it's intellectually demanding so I'm a bit worried about the cognitive side effects of taking pregabalin.
