I apologize immensely if this is the wrong sub for this question, though I definitely felt that other pom owners may be my best shot for quality advice provided the typical nature of their tummies!
So, this is Louis, my 4 year old male pom. He’s nearly perfect…. With the exception of the most sensitive stomach I have ever encountered since day 1. After many vet trips, food changes, and more, we were finally at a coin toss for soft or normal stool.
He was eating Solid Gold Mighty Mini chicken formula with pre and probiotics for about 3 years with some success (truly the only food that didn’t result in “exploding”). Suddenly, about 5 months ago, our progress regressed heavily. The vet pointed towards a chicken intolerance, so I entirely removed chicken from his diet and switched to the beef and sweet potato formula of his food paired with half of a packet of Fortiflora within his breakfast serving.
This was initially working, resulting in the first consistent solid stool in his life! Fast forward to 2 weeks before we brought his new brother home (Chewy, 13 weeks old). We’ve regressed again! Since Chewy has been home, our morning walks result in nearly solid stool 70% of the time while night walks are 99% of the time just a pile of mush. He’s acting normally, eating and drinking, playing, only pooping twice per day, him and Chewy bonded almost immediately and play or cuddle 24/7. So… what gives?
I’m tempted to discontinue Fortiflora, as I’m almost worried that it may somehow be the problem given that room clearing flatulence began after consistent use of the probiotic. So, if anyone else’s Poms have extremely sensitive tummies, please chime in! I don’t want my poor boy to be dealing with stomach problems 24/7 anymore.
For further clarity, here is everything he consumes on a daily basis Morning:

I apologize for the insanely long post, I’ve been doing everything I can to figure my poor little guy out since it’s been such a persistent issue! I appreciate you for reading this far if you did 🫶🏼! Give your pom some snuggles for me!
I am a new pomeranian owner as of a few months ago. My 7 month old puppy gets car sick everytime we are in the car. The vet prescribed some anti nausea medicine to help with this, and it's still only half effective. I was just wondering, is this common with pomeranian's? Is this a puppy thing? Is there any hope he'll grow out of it? I don't want him to be miserable everytime we go for a drive.
He's 9 and a half now and has been acting more and more like a senior pup. I love my little elder so much, I don't want him to get old.
She is 10-weeks and since I got her at 8-weeks old I’ve been feeding her a small portion of puppy dry food every 4-hours. The routine is definitely getting to me (sleep deprived) but the vet told me to do this to keep her blood sugar stable… anyone know at what age she can go to 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner)? Thanks!
How do you say no to this???
i don’t know if this will help anyone but it did for me. my pomeranian at around 15 years old had a collapsing trachea and developed a horrible cough/choke to the point she couldn’t sleep and would be struggling for breath. each cough would be in multiples about 2 seconds apart. i found that i could pull her by the back of the neck (almost like scruffing) and hold it there for about 5 seconds or so but not strong enough to pull her off the ground. doing this seemed to help open her trachea back up. the coughing would stop immediately and she seemed to be able to breathe. at 16 years old she passed from old age but 2 vet visits before she passed didn’t indicate any issues from the collapsing trachea so i feel like it helped our pom. dunno if it could help yours if affected by this issue. just wanted to spread the word if maybe it could help your pom.

He may not be a Pom, but his sister Vixen is. Today Shadow, the little black dog, was attacked by a pack of coyotes in our corral. He has a punctured lung-mild, thankfully, but he's in shock and the vet can't operate on him in that condition. We immediately to him to our vet and they'll be keeping him to see how things progress. Our other furry children are confused and worried, just like us. We rescued Shadow from some meth users about six years ago. He's the sweetest, kindest dog and I'm heartsick. Please send Shadow some love tonight, if you could. Vixen and I thank you.
Sunnys cooked from our run.
We lost our little girl Poppy. She was a rescue from a breeder and we gave her the best life possible for three years. She suffered from thorax collapse and was not a candidate for a stent. Not sure if we will ever get over the loss of her. Please give your dog a hug from Poppy from the rainbow bridge.
We got our little guy today. He currently eats salmon Kirkland small breed puppy food. Any tips, tricks, or must have items please comment below!!
my silly girl had surgery a couple days ago, so she had to get her little chicken leg shaved down. shes doing great and feeling a lot better but omg its so silly looking!!! my funny girl (bad image quality is because this is a facetime screenshot lol)
what do i do? vet said he’s fine… we got the best recommendations food for him but he only eats one kibble every now and then… not like a whole meal. he eats like a horse if we give it to him by hand but i dont want him to get used to that so im kind of worried. i give him 20g of kibble 3 times a day and he eats basically a third of it only :/ please help
Hey everyone!
Our 6.5 month old pom boy Ollie has a bit of a nervous/fearful personality, and he's always been a bit nervous since we first got him around 12 weeks old, but I think he's going through a puppy fear phase.
His training on walks has been going well and I notice he's progressively getting less fearful and reactive towards other dogs and people on walks. So that hasn't been as much of a problem.
However, whenever someone new comes into our house, he loses his mind and barks and screams like he's going to be murdered and it's nearly impossible to get through to him. Only thing we can do is basically remove him and put him in another room...
Has anyone had similar experiences with their Pom pups before? And if so how did you deal with it/help train it out?
My breeder said she will have the puppies ready in about 3 weeks. I currently work from 4 am to 1:30 pm and am usually home by 2. My wife works from 9-5 and is usually home 5 pm she gets to leave at 4:30 because it’s usually quiet by then. My wife would most likely not leave the house until around 8:30 am. My two sisters are both in college currently and don’t work so they agreed they could come daily while I’m at work and spend an hour or even 2 hours with the puppy to check on him feed him and perhaps take him out if the weather is good. Am I making a mistake? We lost our pom and our house feels really empty and we just wanna fill the void. I can’t imagine not having a pom but I know the puppy stage will be a bit harder than having an adult.
Hi there,
It's our first day with our first foster rescue. He's an 8 mo old Pomeranian. He's rather stinky but I want to give him a little bit of time to decompress before I give him a bath. He's quite matted as well. I have lots of grooming tools and such but I'm not super familiar with how to groom him other than brushing/demanding. Should he have a sanitary shave for his bits? Just trying to do a little bit at a time so it's not overwhelming for him. Poor stinky boy :p
