PEAVEY AUDITION 20

Just got this little beast of an amp.

After hearing about the peavey decade being used by Josh homme on the bass parts of songs for the deaf, I got interested in trying out smaller peaveys but not paying a premium to have the decade name.

I tried out the rage 158 red stripe and while I like it. I mostly just used it as a modelling cab through the cd jack. Sick amp for that by the way.

Anyways, I heard that the decade and the audition 20 had virtually the same circuit , and saw one come up locally and bought it. Had to clean up the pots, by my god this amp is incredible.

Using the preamp out to drive the sound through some 12’s makes this thing sing. The eq and saturation controls can get you any sound you want.

But I find the stock speaker a bit shit. Would the following speaker be a good fit? I think the 8 ohm?

Love this new amp.

To all PEAVEY VYPYR X1 owners

I bet you are not satisfied with direct usb distortion sound, it sounds flat and small. I play with this amp for a month and recently found out a solution to make distortion sound big or meaty. I love this amp but the only flaw is canned direct usb sound. Mic'd up amp sound amazing though.

Neck length on the late ‘80s Nitro?

This is my all-time favorite guitar. I have “better” ones, and almost every other one is more expensive. But this is the one that has always felt right.

I got it when I was a kid, in 1990, and it’s a late 80s Nitro I. The documentation has a long been gone, and I can’t find anything definitive online. Does anyone know if these had 24.75 necks? Or 25.5?

IIRC, the Tracers in the 80s had short necks. But I’m unsure about other models.

NAD: Vintage Puke Stained Bandit 65

Got it for only $100! Absolute steal. For sure needs a proper cleaning though… the back is even worse looking.

A proper metal amp if I’ve ever seen one.

The best Peavey is Freevey

In 2017 my friend’s parents were clearing out the garage and, knowing that i am a front of house engineer and musician, my friend gifted me this PA system that had been used maybe two or three times since it had been bought new. He told me it filled up a fairground easily. I use it as full range speakers for my Line 6 Helix, and in my old place i rocked a mono bluetooth DI to drown out my noisy neighbours/tell them loudly but politely to be quiet after midnight a few times. Obviously controls are limited and no graphic EQ but it sounds super clean and flat (in a good way, like accurate) with adequate gain structure. The noise floor is scary low. Solid state peavey is life.

ValveKing VK100, fucked up reverb?

Just brought this home from Marketplace. I like the sound so far but the reverb is fucked. Clean channel, it "works" but is oddly bright. Lead channel, the reverb knob mixes in a very bright (shrill, really) signal that is not audibly verb'd. My first thought was flipped in/out jacks, but I just confirmed with the schematic that they're hooked up correctly. Cleaned the contacts with DeOxit. Measured resistance of both ends of the tank, 70ohm and 200ohm ish, so the coils aren't broken (and if they were anyway, the clean wouldn't verb at all). Continuity good on the cables. I did notice that the connector on the board side is really loose, but again the clean channel is audibly verb'ing so it's gotta be connected. Unless one of the isolated grounds is being shorted to the other, which I guess I'll check right now real quick and update in the comments.

Sound familiar to anyone? Personally I enjoy a little breakup with my reverb, so it's a bummer to not have the reverb work on the gain channel. Since I know the impedances I might just get an Accutronics tank with the same specs.

Woof woof bitches

I'm leaning toward this being a fixture on my bass board. It's a lot of fun on guitar as well, but I think it's actually better on bass...

ISO Stereo Chorus 400 footswitch

I just got my hands on a 1986 SC 400 in great condition. Super stoked to have this solid state beast, but it didn’t come with a footswitch to activate the onboard reverb/chorus effects.

Any leads on where to find a switch would be much appreciated!! Peavey still makes them for the 212 but I have not been able to find one for the 400 anywhere.

Was this a good buy? Any tips or tricks?

Got this Envoy for $30 at goodwill for guitar practice. I don't know much about tube amps, does anyone have any tips on usage / maintenance advice? Works great, there's a loud crackle when I turn up the normal gain knob, but other than that haven't discovered any issues.

How does the X3 compare in sound to the VIP 3?

I see a lot of positive reviews when playing high gain on a VIP 3 and the X3 seems to as well, but is the X3 as good? Same? Better? I'm trying to find a VIP 3 locally but the modern features like Bluetooth and app control are appealing. I also like that unlike the Katanas all available settings can be set without software.

Any reason to go with a vip3 over an x3?

Best Bandit?

I see so many people posting their bandits and raving, never understood why until i tried a Silver Stripe a 2x12 with V30s, and now I get the name “Mississippi Marshall”. I’m not versed in my stripes for Peavey, but i’m looking at picking one up since i’m offloading some gear and wouldn’t mind something quiet for my new place that can get loud if I need it to.

Help getting a jazz tone with a Peavey Bandit

I have an Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor II Pro guitar and a Peavey Bandit Silver Stripe amp. What specific setting should I use on the amp and guitar to get a Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery or Jim Hall tone? Thankful in advance for any help provided.

Pre-TransTube Peavey Amps vs the TransTube ones?

Curious to know more about the old Pre-TransTube amps compared to the TransTube ones.

I've seen some older Peavey's but they have different knob configurations and some don't seem to have dual channels. How does that work exactly? Does the clean and the dirt channel just work on one channel based on where the knobs are? Some also have this SuperSat knob that the TransTube amps don't have. What does this do exactly?

Do the older amps sound as good as the TransTube ones?

Marketplace Find PA 120

Yo, how’s it going y’all? I have a Marketplace find and I’m scheduled to meet him tomorrow. He wants $250 for this PA 120 and 2 cabs. Not sure what size speakers the cabs have. I asked him and he had no idea. Set up was given to him by his dad. It looks like they might be 2x12’s? What do you guys think?

So I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on this rig. Also, thinking about playing it for a while and flipping it. Not sure if I could make any money off of it though… since it’s all going for $250.. I’m thinking I can get (maybe) $125 for the head and $125 for each cab? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance and cheers to the Cvlt!!

Peavey Vypyr 75w, 60w, or X3 100w?

I am leaning towards a Peavy Vypr due to their different distortions, budgets, and (depending on the version) quality. I will be playing clean, metal, and some acoustic emulation. Mostly at home, but maybe a gig one day.

I have narrowed it down to the Vypr 75w, 60w, or X3 100w (arranged by cost and quality). The 60w and x3 are a fair bit more, and I don't know if they are worth it. I included links, so hopefully people can help me?
