Was wondering if any locals could give me some guide or info on the City. Interested in moving there due to affordable rent. How is it in terms of family doctors, Pediatricians, Hospitals, Dentists, schools, accounting jobs and diversity?

I don't want my child to be singled out or teased because of her race. I've lived in a similar small city, Sault Ste, Marie, when I was younger and it was horrible.

Looking to leave our car insurance as they have really bumped up the amount by a lot. We have 1 ticket from 2 years ago that was 10 over the limit, instead of my husband fighting it he paid it. Anyways that never changed anything. We got a new car 2024 financed because our other (used car) engine died. So the dealer ship had us go through Mitsubishi and that was pretty much our only option. It’s a 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE 4DR AWD. We understood that would affect the price. So before changing it was 146.50, after the new vehicle 186.00 now it’s going to be 237.50. It’s getting to a point that we might just trade in our vehicle for something else because we’re already paying 309$ bi-weekly. I’m almost paying rent. My husband is the driver he has been driving since 2005 in America and since 2018 in Canada. (Been with the car insurance since 2018). If anyone has any info on something cheaper than 237.50? I’d appreciate any info! Tia ☺️

Anyone in the area of Harmony/Grandview/Bloor/401 hear a loud bang last night around 7 last night. Wasn’t fireworks. Sounded like a huge metal door but way louder. Not sure if the sound carried from the docks because of the wind?

Was just curious if anyone had some information about this. About two months ago we got a letter in the mail implying that the gas services in our home provided by enbridge would be switching over to enercare. In the past two billing cycles it appears I am being charged by both companies. I don’t see how this could be residual charges from enbridge given that it has happened over two billing cycles so I’m just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or has insight into why I am being charged by both enbridge and enercare for the months of September and October.

Not confirmed but the old owner is supposedly coming back November 10 according to the Clarington FB group. For those of you not aware, he retired and the new owners ruined the place, resulting in it closing down recently.

A handful of neighbours in the Sherwood Park area (Ormond Drive between Coldstream and Naples) spotted multiple people trying to open car doors between 5:30-6:00 AM on October 31.

A few of us typically leave for work right around 6:00AM and we all missed them... but our cameras didn't.

I was driving home from my girlfriend’s place and noticed an ambulance (lights on) just pulled into the entrance of the superstore plaza (where the traffic lights are, across from the Boston pizza)

I saw a car in the middle of the intersection with hazards on, and a chunk missing from the front bumper

The accident must have just happened because only the ambulance was there, and fire trucks zoomed in just as I crossed the intersection

Anyone have any info on what happened?

I have noticed more often that there are an increasing number of people wearing an absurd amount of cologne or axe perfume I don’t know what it is but it smells so strong.

As someone that has a scent sensitivity/allergy, I don’t think people know how hard it is to live or go out in public having these sensitivities. Side effects for me can range from nausea, vomiting, runny eyes and nose and shortness of breath.

I just wanted to kindly put this out there as a reminder for people like me. I know it probably sounds annoying of me to be posting this but just try and be mindful. I know the world doesn’t revolve around me but you also don’t need to shower with a can of axe 🥲

we’re taking our 3 year old out for his first time this year, and i’m not sure how oshawa does halloween, but i’m from scarborough, and there was entire neighborhoods (mine included) that didn’t participate, so it was just a lot of sad walking in the cold knocking on doors to no avail🤣

we just moved up here around taunton and simcoe, & i really want my son to get the trick or treat experience. see other kids on the street, maybe get scared, see cool decorations, knock on some doors & get some candy etc

This white van scam is being run out of big box parking lots in Oshawa. My elderly father was targeted at Walmart.

In case you aren’t familiar with this scam, the perp approaches the target in a parking lot offering a “great deal” on a projector. My father said no multiple times but this pos kept going when he sensed confusion and vulnerability. He poured on the pressure, showing my father a fake, tailor made website showing the drastically inflated value of the product which is fake ass, made in China garbage produced just for this scam.

The perp pressured my father to go to the bank, which he did and withdrew the money. He later said he was nervous and confused. The teller asked no questions despite the fact that my father is only in the habit of withdrawing $40 here and there.

Durham Regional Police have taken the position that this is not an organized scam but just an unsatisfied buyer. There is so much online about this scam across Ontario. Guelph police issued an alert about this scam as did Windsor police.

The bank has CCTV footage of the perp and his vehicle but DRPS doesn’t care - “no criminal offence has taken place”.

Be vigilant out there. No one will protect the elderly and vulnerable but you. If you witness an interaction like this - please please intervene.

There is a sophisticated scam going on whereby the scammers have created

(1) a fake parking lot provider / company INSIDE the legit honk mobile app

(2) fake law enforcement officers issuing actual paper ‘parking infraction’ tickets to people in the city of Oshawa

(3) a fake website called Park O Lot (oshawaparking.ca) with tons of AI-generated newsroom / PR etc to flood the Google results if you try to google the about the website

(4) a fake LinkedIn page for their company too!

They then issue you a ticket with a QR code which, while pointing to the real HonkMobile app, presents you with ‘parking rates’ of hundreds of dollars per hour, as seen in the screenshot above

Hopefully it's been fixed by now, but I was taking Centre St. down to the highway and the Adelaide and I think Bond St. traffic lights bugged out going south, where it went from red, to green for like 1-2 seconds, then immediately to yellow and red again. Never seen something like that before.

I'm looking into what it would take to start a bike bus program next fall for schools in Oshawa. Some preliminary research suggests we'd need two adults (with vulnerable sector checks) to ride the full route for each school, plus a ratio of one adult to 4 kids (the initial two adults are included as long as they're covering the full route for their school). The schools would need to be aware although TBD whether they'd need to approve.

The initial pilot would probably reach schools that could be reached from the Adelaide corridor from Stevenson to Wilson. Schools with participating adults could then complete the route to the schools on connecting streets where a smaller group is still safe riding, including Coronation, Walter E. Harris, O'Neill, St Stephen's, Woodcrest, Mary Street Community School, and a few others.

Would there be any interest in this kind of thing? This is in VERY early stages so I'm still sketching things out in terms of requirements and considerations.

Someone hit my car while it was parked outside my house. It's a brand new car, I am looking for body shop suggestions, it will need rear bumper and quarter panel repainted. I found some good reviews on Google, but wanted personal opinions on pain finish. I am hoping get same paint finish as before. I am not sure if it's possible to do 100% match and blend the old and the newly painted areas.
