Hi, I'm in DC but moving to Norfolk unexpectedly in a month. I have a really big dog, and The Port at East Beach has no weight limit on their first floor. Does anyone live there or near to it who can tell me if its first floor has a balcony or a patio?
403 West Bute Street was built by Samuel Quincy Collins (Left) and 419 Duke Street was built by John B. LeKies (right) in the late 1800s. The two houses, located, in Norfolk's Freemason neighborhood, are identical.
Mr Collins and Mr LeKies were business partners in the LeKies and Collins Lumber Company. Their company was one of the first lumber mills in South Norfolk, taking advantage of lumber shipped from the Dismal Swamp and the Carolinas.
Not just partners, but lifelong friends, they built duplicate homes within a few blocks of each other.
OK, so I leave for work in Portsmouth at like 230a and the other day the orange traffic signs said that the tunnel would be closed Sun/Mon from 9p-4a, and to go to 511 for more info, but I cannot find a damn thing about this closure!! And I also have no idea how else to get to Portsmouth without going alllllll the way up 64 to 664 to 264, which I definitely want to avoid.
Hi everyone! Anyone happen to know a dentist that would squeeze in a new patient with excruciating tooth pain? I made an appointment for next Wednesday, but I may yank it out myself before then. I've never had a cavity or any dental work done, so I have found out people are not joking when they say tooth pain is the worst pain. 😖 TIA
1146 Rodgers Street, in the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake, was built in 1908 by John and Sarah Cuthrell. Mr Rodgers ran a feed store close by at Liberty and Halifax Streets.
It was owned by the Cuthrell family until the 1930s when it was sold and converted to commercial use as a funeral home. Although it has changed names several times it continues in that use today.
The home was designed by George Franklin Barber whose architectural designs were used to build as many as 20,000 buildings between 1880 and 1915, many are listed on the National Register of Historic Properties.
Mr Barber also designed the P D Gwaltney Jr House (304 S. Church Street, Smithfield), the Clayton House (200 Hatton Street, Portsmouth) and the Woodard House (508 Fairfax Avenue, Norfolk).
What the FUCK was going on with traffic today on 264/64? What VIP is so important we gotta shut our mainbhighway intersection Down during rush hour?
(Posted this on Chesapeake page, too.)
I am helping someone find volunteer hours with a legit nonprofit organization this weekend. He has court for a minor traffic violation Monday, and he wants to get some service work in beforehand. Places he has called this week require lengthy background checks and he wouldn't be able to work until after his hearing date.
He's new to south Hampton Roads and works a regular job like the rest of us, so he's running into roadblocks.
Yes, he waited til the last minute. Yes, there are very good reasons for background checks. But he's a hard working, honest guy - not looking for a hand out. There's no catch with him, except for the timing. He's already taken the driving class ... just doesn't want a ticket on his record, if possible. Any thoughts for an NPO looking for an extra set of hands this weekend in the Tidewater area? I'm boosting the signal a little for him. He's doing his own looking/ asking, too.
Really appreciate any helpful feedback. If you want to be snarky, I get that, too.
Does anyone know if the picket line people are accepting snacks and moral support, and if they have a specific location for that?
I would like to go to a indoor water park that Caterers to adult men. I want to have fun in the water and splash around and stuff. Also sometimes I just want to swim a bunch but I can't find a pool that lets you just do that. Looking for one or the other.
Hey y'all
Anyone have experience trying/or working in the Norfolk school district? I've been waiting to be approved for almost 8 weeks now and I've started looking for other employment. Anyone had a similar experience that ended well? or have any experience with this? Thansk
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Timber Townhomes. I’m moving in November and trying to figure out where that’s going to be.
One thing I couldn’t help but notice since moving to Norfolk is how bad the infrastructure and resources are for most of our NPS’s. Mayor Alexander has touted that he has secured the most funding in NPS history. He’s also stated that our city is doing well economically and is at a surplus. Our taxes are also pretty high; Ok where is the money going? How is it allocated? Can anyone give some insight on this? My kid goes to Oceanair Elementary and the school is rust bucket and falling apart. You can tell it’s been poorly managed and neglected. They’re currently doing the roof but that’s probably only being done because they had no choice. I want a City Administration in Norfolk who finally takes steps to invest in our youth. If not I’m personally voting them out. Something has to change and I don’t want hear the BS excuse “ Well that’s just how Norfolk is “ it’s time we start holding these elected officials accountable and setting standards. “ ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO OUR KIDS “

I'm visiting Norfolk this weekend for a wedding. Anyone recommend restaurants that have gluten free food? I have Celiacs. TX!!
I'm 18 and moved to Norfolk from Richmond last week, living around Oceanview and was wondering if anyone could point me anywhere decent I could pick up a job at.
I’m potentially moving to Norfolk area for work. I will only be there for a few years and then will leave. I’m considering buying a home, I’ve seen good options in Portsmouth/Chesapeake/Norfolk area and beyond. I would have no problem buying a home in those areas because I know they would rent when I leave.
On the other hand I like what I am seeing in moyock more because I can get an acre of land and a nice house for the same price. To me an hour commute to Norfolk is worth it with the land. But is it worth it to a renter? Would the home in moyock even rent? It looks like inventory for moyock area rentals are low. Partly because no one wants to commute an hour for a home they haven’t bought.
What are your thoughts concerning the rental market in Norfolk in comparison to moyock? Would I be a fool to purchase in moyock and expect people working in Norfolk area to rent?
Hey guys I'm a mechanical engineering student planning to take a job at the NNSY after I graduate in the spring. I'm looking mostly to get a good idea of the best places to live in the area. I'd like to be able to get to and from work fairly quickly but also live in a place with good nightlife and walkability to bars and restaurants ect. I'll be able to comfortably handle rent of about 1500 a month but I'm also getting an incentive of 30k pre tax so could possibly end up putting a decent down payment on a condo or something if the opportunity is right. Any recommendations on where to look given what I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated.
Having a tough time keeping the lawn people consistently coming to our house. Small yard, limited needs. Would love to have someone come cut the front grass before sunday! looking for weekly / 2x a month service until winter.
What's everyone's favorite recipe for milk sandwiches? Has anyone started making them yet?
Hello all, my son recently accepted an engineering job at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He will be relocating from Richmond. Do any of you have any recommendations for apartments close to the shipyard or where to live ?
Hey this happened a few months ago, in July, I went to a wedding there and lost my wallet, it was white, maybe 5$ in it max. It had all my I.D.s I’m 99% sure it went missing in the (7-eleven?) next to the red roof inn by the airport. It’s white, and has an anime character on it with goldfish.
I also lost a knit frog in a sparkly a sweater that I loved and took with me everywhere.
I tried Craigslist lost and found at the time, but all I got was sxul harassment from multiple different people. (Over a photo of a lost stuffed toy which is concerning) after losing both of these things (and the Craigslist stuff) I had a mental breakdown and gave up.
I just discovered the Reddit and thought I’d post it here as well, even though it’s late and probably a lost cause now.
BUT If you’ve found either of these I’ll literally PAY you for them back. Thank you for reading! 🌈
