I have one of them, however, I dont really get how it is possible for it to be implemented.
USB has two data lines and RJ45 can have more than 2. So, how is it so easy to be converted one to the other?
Is there any specification practice or common implementation that helps it to be like this?
I was thinking that maybe both use a buffer for transferring data, so it's a matter of changing the rate of transfer and that's all (Depending of the number of pins.) I'm guessing here. Some guide would be appreciated!
Hi,
For approximately 24 hours I've been having "limited connectivity". It isn't limited too severely, but my packet manager won't work, and my distro forum (Manjaro) won't work. Some other sites won't open. Ping's OK. Router restart makes no difference.
What else can I check to show it to my provider, or to make sure that the router is (or isn't) OK?
I’ve got an assortment of Eero Pro 6, Eero Pro 6E, and Eero 6 running the network at one of my properties (9 units total). Would it be best to connect one of the Eero Pro 6E units to the internet source line coming in (it’s currently connected to one of the Eero Pro 6 units) or does it not matter much?
Hi,
I bought some Devolo Magic 2 powerline adapters for my office, but I'm getting about 100mbps. I have gigabit internet. I'm also seeing over 200ms download active and upload active latency. I'm connected via ethernet. What do I do?
Thanks!
Hello everyone,
Please let me know if I'm in the wrong subreddit.
I recently got a modem with glas fiber connection, which I had to install two rooms away from where I have my office since the connector for the glas fiber is there.
Now, since there are two walls between the modem and the connection, I only have one bar where I need it. So I saw that I have some sockets where I can plug in a LAN Cable with numbers on it. I had to plug the glas fiber in the slot with the number 2, does this socket connect to the glas fiber? If not, how else could I solve this problem?
Thanks a lot!
I want to monitor the files coming to a printer either without them getting printed or even better as they are being printed; on a network that i do not have access to the panel to. What do i need to do in order to have this kind of a set up? Is this even possible to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
So have my cable modem and router at home. I have recently built an office building about 100 feet behind my home. I'm wondering what the best way to bring Wifi to that building is. I have conduit in place so I'm running CAT 6 cable.
I guess my main question is should I just use an AP at the office building that has a separate SSID? I'm wondering how my google pixel phone when Wifi calling might behave as I walk back and forth between the two AP's. Will it switch off seamlessly without dropping calls?
Or is there another solution I should look into such as maybe a mesh extender that can be wired?
I was thinking about maybe running a Ubiquiti AP in the office, but I'm open to suggestions.
We're having a very slow Site to Site VPN Slow Transfer Data between two virtual machine servers living in two different locations/brunch.
We run packet capture and noticed fragmentation, we decrease the MTU same issue, we set wan1 to monitor ipsec tunnel, no change
We run Iperf and we getting 2.mbs instead of 1GB

So I encountered this at work the other day and tbh I have never seen this. Other end of the ethernet cable is a standard rj45 connector. Any ideas guys? couldn’t find anything on it so far.
My wifi is supposed to reach 100Mbps, test says it’s 82Mbps, I started updating a game on my PlayStation six hours ago and it still says 7 hours left, did a connection test and it says it’s 7Mbps on the ps4. Any idea how to fix?
I have connect my PS4 via LAN cable on my PC and activated Internet Conection share, i did this to try control the port 80 connection fo my ps4 by blocking the port 80 on my windows firewall. But the internet connection share don't get my firewall rules, is there any way i can aplly my firewall rules to the ICS connected devices?
I've been networking for over 12 years, 10 years in Systems, and 1 year in Cybersecurity. I stopped to start a business completed unrelated to Network Engineering/Administration and it's been 5 years now. I was good at networking but this was before Cisco DNA, and Cloud Networking was just starting to hit. I was hoping all you fine folks can tell me what I should be focusing to get my skills back up to date.
Here's what I'm doing now.
Anything else to be more marketable?
For me a WiFi repeater works like a switch with the difference that it's wireless. However, I get confused with the following:
WiFi networks are encrypted. So, if I have AP1 and I want to repeat it with AP2, the moment AP2 creates a new network (the one that is going to be repeating AP1) isn't it encrypted as well with different encryption keys? How does the DHCPOFFERS get to the hosts in dynamic IP allocation scenarios, for example?
Thanks for any advice!
My modem is in my living room and I don’t want to run an Ethernet to run across my house, however my computer doesn’t have wifi and I cannot install wifi into it due to the motherboard being vertical. I’ve tried a power line connection but I get 15mbps instead of 1GB. I’m not sure what options I have left. Is there a way to have a router that I can hardwire into the computer? I’ve tried every other avenue I can think of.
Hello everyone, I have Verizon fios 2GB and although it is pretty decent for all the stuff that I have in the house, I have put some wireless security cameras in my backyard and they are lagging because they are very far from the router. What are some things that I can do to increase the Wi-Fi signal. Should I get extenders or a mesh system or maybe even change the router? What do you guys recommend? I wanna have the strongest signal that I can possibly have for a reasonable price lol
Ill try to explain as simple as i can.
My friend just moved into my house and we he got a few ethernet network issues. It says at the bottom right that he has no internet access with the globe icon with a line over. Strangely enough it says on the internet tab that he is connected and got access,
He can use chrome, he can download in chrome, watch Youtube etc, but he cannot download inside of other applications. Minecraft updates and download says he isnt connected to internet, Steam also says that his connection should be checked out, he cant update fortnite etc.
We have tried to swap ethernet cables, but i still get the ethernet connected icon on the bottom right, he doesnt. He had some issues with his pc earlier this year, but it worked fine up until about 3 months later. I have no idea what the issue is even with troubleshooting and im usually "smart" enough to find solutions.
Eero (or other brand) hardwired and behind a TV in a recessed box?
OR
Eero (or other brand) wireless and sitting on a table (or wherever).
Thx in advance.
Hi all,
I’m not sure what’s going on here. I have two Netgear WAC104 units, fairly new just been used for about a year now. I wasn’t using both as the same network for a while but I set them up to match recently so people would not have to switch depending on location.
Setting is an apartment in two different rooms ≈35' or so apart. Ordinarily things are quite seamless where a phone, tablet or laptop can be anywhere and it will grab stronger signal. Yeah sometimes it will try to cling to the weaker one for maybe like 30 seconds extra until it hops, but that varies from device to device.
Recently though, every so often, all devices, regardless of location, will have perfect signal but yet have no internet connectivity for like 2 full minutes. This happens a couple times a day maybe. Also varies.
It has been my intention to check on the signal strengths of each to try to get a smooth zone of transfer, and I’ll get to that when I can, but that would not explain the current issue.
Regarding the configurations, the devices have static IPs (192…etc) on opposite ends of the subnet. They both offer 802.11N and AC, and both are on the same frequencies & channels. Working most of the time tells me there’s no actual no this won’t work kind of problem or they would not work at all.
Sometimes a laptop will report that annoying message “limited connectivity” or “connected but no internet”… indicating it’s having trouble getting past the router or reaching the assigned DNS servers. Further examples of the intermittent issue.
My main router (don’t judge me!) is a Sonicwall TZ210 - it works perfectly fine so I’m ok with it for now. I know I know I should get something new and I will … I just need this still because of an important site-to-site VPN and once I can research something that will offer this, that I can afford to replace in both locations, I will. I am on one of the most reliable cable internets in the country and connectivity problems - like true downtime - occur maybe a few hours per year or less. It’s that reliable.
So…. Maybe there are settings in the advanced menus that need tweaking, or something. I don’t know. I just know this problem is intermittent but goddamn annoying. For the record when it happens, our phones can get instant service on 5G so it’s not the devices.
Help and advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. edit: just occurred to me to add that yes, they’re both wired in on Cat 6 lines, none of that sloppy wireless to wireless extender bullshit. Also, both units have the latest firmware installed.
I live in the Philippines and I have an old router and so I want to connect it with the new one. But after logging in using the old router there's no option of changing the default gateway and dhcp so is there still a way to connect my old one to the new one?
SO if I have a secound high tier router conected from LAN from ISP router to WAN of secound router and than ALL devices conecter to secound will be the second to handle all the heavy load of routing, processing, etc ? ( im noob at this sorry for the words not being proper).
Bridge mode it's impossible. ALSO ISP router doesnt have WAN port. Needs to be LAN - WAN not WAN-LAN
I understand it's far from ideal, but I don't really have an option as I can't change ISP for another 18 months.
IN this gase, will the second router manage routing and for e.g. QOS wold be applied correctly ?
