Its not just dell and im far from the first to complain about this— but why? Seriously, why? Smart people — at least some — have had to be involved. My old 2010 xps 15 had a much more comfy front edge (and i know it was overall bulky, but still). Appearance is the obvious answer but what else would lead a laptop designer to create discomfort for palms (and yes i realize it depends on the angle of your arms, but still)? Would a slight curvy bevel make manufacturing more expensive bc = less straight lines? And maybe not enough people care enough to not buy? And maybe they think a more perfect wedge is easier to slip into bags? And maybe the head of Ergonomics isn’t as charming or attractive as the brand manager/art director? What other laptop brands focus more on practical tactile ergonomic experience?? Design attractiveness is really important… for like five days… and then we’re living w thing. And yeah, I know by that point they have your money yada yada, but still. Its gotta be more than that. They want people to enjoy their product.

Hello, If the APM (Absolute Persistence Module) module was previously activated but has now been permanently disabled in BIOS, does this mean the module within the PC itself is disabled and can now be used safely? For reference; purchased 3080 off second hand website, found this Module to be Activated initially. APM was Perm Disabled and Windows re-Installed.

I was in disc management a couple of days ago, trying to format an external hard drive, and I noticed that my main operating system drive is BitLocker encrypted. I do not remember turning this on during set up, so how the heck did it happen? Is it a manufacturer thing? I just plain don’t get it.

When you buy onsite service do you have to pay for tech support as well? I just did what the website let me put in. I paid both for 7x24 technical support and onsite service. I suppose it's telephone support versus onsite. But as I've never called Dell for technical support, can I just pay for the onsite service next time?

Hey all. I just ordered an AW3225QF and had some questions about whether Dell offered any magnetic/mountable soundbars that might be compatible with it. I have an audio interface that is already fully loaded with 1/4” and XLR connections that goes to my studio monitors; the interface is connected to my Mac Mini via thunderbolt and I run an optical cable from my gaming PC so it can handle both machines. However, I also need a way to handle audio from my work laptop so I can get audio for zoom calls while it is closed and connected to the AW monitor. The magnetic soundbars sounded like the most convenient, but really anything that could be mounted to my monitor arm/not take up desk space would do the trick.

Hey i have a strange issue with my rtx 4060 on my dell xps laptop the issue is on all games after a while of playing the usage of gpu jump to 100% and the frames drops to the half without changing sitting in the same scene in the game without changing anything like for example fifa 23 or uncharted 4 the normal usage of them is 60% and 60 fps stable but when the issue comes it jumps to 100% no its not cause of demanding scene or cause unlimited fps no the fps is capped at 60 fps its for no reason and no there is no apps running in the backgroup i checked the task manager and its the game it self that is using 100% not other app Its a strange and frustrating issues i reinstalled windows and reinstaled drivers and clean install them ive done a virus scan and remove all of them and nothing worked it work normal for a while and after that the issue return Please please any help am done with this !!!

First off my M4600 is a sandy/ivy bridge model.

I've been checking the net about this but i cannot reach a safe conclusion, I saw that the quadro M2000M maxwell based GPU is a MXM 3.0 A type like the 2000M currently installed on my tanky m4600 from 2011, i wonder if I could add the GPU and use the same heatsink as it seems to draw the same Wattage.

Should it work like magic? Needs driver wizzle wozzle or something on the bios? I've no experience in exchanging mobile GPUs aside from dissasembling, cleaning and giving maintenance to it.

Apparently someone here did change his current mobile gpu for a M2000M to a 4800 but no idea of its architecture.

I'm looking to buy a new/open box laptop and I've shortlisted the HP Envy x360 14t-fc000 with a Core Ultra 5 125U, with 16 gb ram and 512 ssd. I'm getting it new for 750 USD which is the limit of my budget. I'm gonna need a laptop for university that can do some very light coding, some light gaming, and the rest of the daily activities and uni tasks and be usable through the next 4 years. I wanted to ask if there's any better value for money laptop/s that I could buy within my budget that dell offers that fit my requirements, preferably new, thanks.

Hi I posted before about an issue with my laptop. The technician said it would be an out of warranty repair costing nearly 300 pounds. I was able to affirm (following the information I received here) with the technician that the issue did not require a full motherboard replacement but rather just a new charging port. They now agree with this. However they have ascertained that the price for the replacement part is 26 pounds, but an additional 113 pounds for someone to actually make the repair/replacement. They maintain it remains an out-of-warranty repair as the damage likely arose due to general wear and tear of the system over time (I have the laptop about 19 months).

I have checked my warranty (ProSupport) and it states in regards to whether I am covered or not: 'Repairs or replacements for accidental damage: Optional'. Does anyone know whether an issue such as the replacement of a power jack would be covered? I am finding conflicting information on different Dell ProSupport forms (none are direct, but some forms say excluded services include any repairs to damage that is solely cosmetic, (so one would assume functional repairs such as the one I need is covered), others say repairs due to accidental damage are not covered at all, which doesn't make sense in regards to the 'optional' listed on the warranty outline).

Anyone know what the story is? Any advice?

Our IT Tech provided a quote for a Dell Precision PC for $3,100 (CAD). I looked up the PC (exact same specs) on Dell's website, and the price was $1,100 less than quoted.

I asked him if I was missing something, and he said that the Dell I found is a "Business Line" that has cheaper components. He then provided the following:

• End user line: designed for home with limited expectation.
• Business line: good for work with mid performances
• Enterprise line: designed for performances and reliability

This doesn't sound right to me because I would expect that if Dell had an Enterprise line, it would be available to anyone who wanted it.

I also thought that Precision and XPS are Dell's premium PC's for businesses.

Any thoughts on this?

I bought a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7070 SFF for capturing videos from my old JVC camcorder intending to add a FireWire card to it. I’m a bit confused relative to what slots am I looking at here. The blue one is PCI x16 I believe. What is the black one? Can I use a PCIe X1 card on this mb?

I used OS Recovery Tool to download the original image of my laptop, and I found that OEM image was slightly different from MS's standardized image.

Regardless of whether your original image was applied by Dell recovery environment or Windows Setup, it always needs to be booted into an admin account before starting OOBE to install OEM app and configure system settings.

But if you just use Dism /Apply-Image to install OEM image, you may find that it get stuck in the admin account stage.

I wonder what's happened in this stage? For MS standard images, both windows setup and Dism can make them run smoothly. Why OEM images have to be installed by auto programs?

I have Intel HD 520 graphics and when I play Runescape it says my graphics drivers are about 1000 days old, I have used SupportAssist and downloaded directly from Dell's download center but the message still persists(the game works but the message bugs me). I also tried Intel's driver assistant which said my drivers were up to date. Does anyone know what's up or a solution to this? I also can't see the Intel HD graphics Control Panel which used to be visible before the HDD was replaced or formatted.

so i bought this laptop last December and since then no issues until last week it started locking my gpu to very low watts to the point games running at 140fps start to run at 15fps with maximum gpu usage and not so high gpu temp ... cpu temp is also fine ranging between 60-70-80 ... i tried every fix possible (yes everything is set on maximum performance no battery savers of any sort) until i found something called vbios on the dell website installed it and it made things better but not by alot now my gpu locks at 30w only and it happens completely randomly in-game and even idle i cant control it ... the only fix i found is reverting to a near one year old driver that maxes the limit to always 80w but the performance of the driver itself is not very good with constant frame drops despite maxed out power usage and no limits ... any newer version as far as i tested often locks me in this 30w limit which kills alot of the performance for me ... btw in nvidia-smi command on newer drivers it says requested power limit : N/A but in the old driver it says 80w not sure if that helps but i find it strange ... i tried everything except reseting windows btw ... thanks in advance

Looking to get a used 2-in-1 for some portable work for a local club I am a member of. I'd like to spend about $150 (as this is coming out of my own pocket, the club doesn't have the funds to pay for it.)

I'd prefer to have a slightly larger screen if at all possible, with the ability to have at least 16GB of RAM. Not really concerned about HDD capability (as long as I can throw a bigger drive in it if need be.)

Any recommendations on a good model that would fit the bill? I've looked on eBay and there appear to be a couple different models (Latitude and Inspiron, for example https://www.ebay.com/itm/176296058499 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/266804821685 ) but I'm not familiar enough with the models and differences to really make an informed decision.

Hopefully someone out there with experience with the 2 in 1's will be able to provide some useful insight. Thanks.

I just want to get a new lid for my 7570. But they're out of stock wherever I look, or else they're on the pricey side. I see various listings on eBay that advertise lids which they say would work on a 7570 or 7573. Some of these listings even say it would work on a 7000 or 7580. It looks as they this kind of lid MIGHT work in a pinch. It would have some empty slots in the back, which wouldn't be the best. But it would save on the expense.

Aside from the argument that I should get the right part... can anyone tell me if this kind of substitution would work? Would the screen slot in, and would the hinges line up? The sellers seem to think the substitution would work, but are they just blowing smoke?

My trackpad keeps jumping, skipping, stuttering, not working properly.

Issue started shortly after buying it. It's an Inspiron 16" 5260. I sent it back to Dell for warranty repair, they didn't change the trackpad (according to their notes) but changed the mobo and ssd.

The issue was fine for a while, but then it presented again. After a second warranty repair, they still didn't change the trackpad but the function keys and some other stuff. It was fine, again, for a while.

And now it's back. Now my laptop is no longer under warranty and I don't know how to fix it. I've tried everything I know software wise (driver and bios update, going back to old drivers) but nothing seems to work.

I didn't want to open it up before to avoid voiding the warranty, but now I see no other option.

It's probably a hardware issue, ofc. Aside from changing trackpad, is there something I could do to fix this? It's a company laptop and we bought multiple of those, but mine is the only one with this issue. And I'm the de facto IT guy, so I can't rely on anyone else.

I'm looking for a high performance laptop for my college which has a good graphics card too since I might use it to run ML models and the DELL Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 looks perfect for this but I've seen many bad reviews of this model on here so I need some honest suggestions from people who own this.

I've been using a Inspiron 7570 for 6 years which has been very good even after years which is why I prefer to buy a Dell.

This is the third time this happens to me with a brand new, expensive Dell laptop. It seriously affects my workday. At some point during the night, the laptop decides to update its firmware, and gets itself stuck at zero, until the morning when I arrive at the office. Now, I have no way of starting the computer, as it wont power down. Its fans are going loud and there is no progress. Please, can anyone assist with this? What do I do?

Hi. I have an optiplex 3060 micro pc and a 7060 with 65W and 130W power supply, respectively. Can I use the 130W power supply to the 3060M? One of the reason I asked is, for the 3060M, I have installed an 8700 non T proccy which is rated 65W, 2x16GB 3200 RAM, 1x500GB m.2 and a 1TB SATA drive. It seems to me that 65W is not enough though the system is running fine with the 65W PSU. Thanks.

I have a dell Latitude 5420, and it was plugged in. I tripped over the cord, the laptop completely shut down and now, neither of the usb-c ports for charging are taking power or outputting power. What could be wrong and how can I fix it, or who can I take it to to get it fixed?

Hi From yesterday afternoon my WiFi is not working, so first I thought it would be a normal driver problem and installed driver but got a error message (cannot start the device (errror code 10)) After installing drivers also I had the same problem So I clean installed the windows is and still the issue persist but now the WiFi adapter is not in the device manager itself and I checked in bios to verify whether it is a os problem and the bios also failed to recognise it My WiFi adapter had a problem of disabling automatically sometimes and re-enables after 15-20mins (it doesn't show any networks or connects) But after clean installation the WiFi is not even showing up in the device manager I request you guys to please help me Laptop: dell inspiron 3511 WiFi adapter: Realtek rt|8821ce WiFi adapter I also don't have a Ethernet port

Please help me fix it
