On the data wipe option in bios settings, does it remove operating systems too?

I am interested in finding out something about the two irons

I did see that 7920 is called "workstation" and R740 is called "server"

I ordered a R740 (used) from my supplier and he brought me the 7920, he claims that depending on the hardware we put there (512 RAM & CPU XEON GOLD6238- RAID PERC H730P) it is identical to the capabilities of the R740 and it is the same. In practice I saw small differences

I ask, is there really a significant difference?

(Why on Dell's official website does it seem that the iron 7920 does not support windows server/hyper-v at all? That's why I need it)

The question is whether we should return the server and demand R740 or there is no significant difference in terms of performance and work

I’m running Windows 11 on my Dell Inspiron 15 3520 and have been dealing with a frustrating issue: my external hard drives keep going to sleep, even though my laptop never goes to sleep. They’ll disconnect after about 5 minutes of no mouse movement, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix it. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

1. Disabled USB Selective Suspend: Windows 11 doesn’t seem to have this option in the power settings anymore. I tried a registry edit (changing the value from 1 to 0) and ran a command in Command Prompt, but neither option stopped the drives from disconnecting.
2. Unchecked “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” in Device Manager for my USB controllers—no luck there either.
3. Changed Disk Drive Settings: Left write caching and set performance to "best performance." Still, no improvement.
4. Updated Drivers and BIOS: I updated my Dell D6000 dock driver, BIOS, and other recommended drivers, but the problem persists.

It’s annoying since my laptop never actually goes to sleep, yet my external drives will randomly disconnect. Any suggestions or tweaks that have worked for others? Thanks in advance!

I have an inspiron 14 5425. the display doesn't turn on and the fan just spins for just 2-5 secs. I tried to check the diagnostics light by pressing the power button fro more than 20 secs. This was the sequence: 6 rapid white light blinks and then 4 slow white light blinks. I was not able to find the code in dell website.

I have 3 Dell 12 gen servers that I have purchased over the last several months. Lots of fun to play with and I'm learning a ton about networking, management, and all that. But I have one thing that I just can't figure out how to change configuration wise...These were all purchased used obviously, and each one has a Host Name associated with it from wherever they were before that shows up in several places. One says ESXI, one says sqlserver, and one says something else (can't remember it offhand). This shows up in the iDRAC configurations and in my ProxMox installations. These all started out as carcasses, where I added disks, memory, and such, so there was no information there anywhere that could have come along. For the life of me I cannot figure out where these names can be modified.

I have searched through all the documentation on the Dell site that is associated with these servers (2 x T420 and 1 x T620) and I cannot find any reference to where this is set up. It doesn't appear in BIOS, I can't remember seeing anything in the Lifecycle Controller. I have performed upgrades for all three machines to the latest available BIOS (2.9.0). I simply cannot find the place to edit this piece of data and the OCD is kicking in...I have to fix this.

Does anybody know where this Host Name information is and how to access it to change it?

I recently uninstallt ubuntu from my dualboot pc (with GRUB) and now it will boot from a partition that doesn't existe. And i can't change it because all boot option are set to the right partition what can i do?

on my nvidia control panel I don't have the display settings and on a different post on this sub I saw "Just figured it out myself. You have to find the port that links directly to your GPU and use that to access all NVIDIA features." and I'm not sure I exactly understand this. I use a external thing for more usb ports and I can't tell if it's because of this

Hi everyone! Does anyone know where I can buy a Type-C charger for the Dell Headset WL3024? I've been searching everywhere but can't seem to find one. My dog just chewed through mine, and it's a company-provided headset. It still works, but I'd like to have a replacement just in case. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The laptop used to operate properly, however now something has changed. The system is up to date, including dell updates. It works fine if it's on battery but with turbo mode, or plugged in, however as soon as you unplug it, it becomes super slow, unresponsive, as if it operates on 5V battery.

I have 64GB 4800 MT/s, 2TB NVME, 240V power supply, 12th gen Core i7-12700H, Geforce RTX 3070 Ti with Intel Iris Xe.

I'm sure it's some power settings but tbh I have no clue which, I've went through all of them and everything on the surface seems fine.

Not sure if it's windows 11 itself or some dell/intel software, but I'd appreciate the help if anyone knows what it might be or how to properly diagnose it.

I have the following setup:

• Dell USBC Dock (WD19)
• Dell Monitor U2723QE
• Dell Monitor U2719D

at the moment I use them with my work Notebook and it’s just fine. Both monitors are connected via Display Port to the Dock.

Because of a private MacBook upgrade, I would like to also use the Dock with both monitors. But after connecting the monitors are just mirroring the screen. Some googling shows that this could be a USB C problem?!

My question is now if I use the fancy daisy chain option of the 2723QE, would this change something? Maybe the dock is also not really necessary because the 2723QE also have some connection options?!

I recently bought a Latitude 9510 with the 52 WHr battery with a view to upgrading to the 88 WHr battery. I then bought a used 88 WHr battery from eBay, which end up being totally worn, could hardly keep its charge, but also made the laptop spasm and couldn't really boot up without serious trackpad then leading it to shut down. The batteries are different voltages (~11V vs ~14V), but the Dell website says they're both compatible with my serial number. Could the spasms be a symptom of a dodgy battery or is it more likely that is not compatible and making components act up because of the wrong input voltage?

Does anyone have any experience with this? Dell sells new, genuine batteries on its website, albeit at a high price, and if there's a decent chance of it working I would go ahead and buy one to test.

So I submitted the request to cancel order BEFORE the order get into phase "processing order", and contacted the dell customer service team multiple times, they always reply with "it's under the process of cancellation, your order will be cancelled within 24hrs".
But tonight I found they changed the process to shipped and created a shipment label.
After two days of the original order, Rakuten started 10% cash back (was 2%) for dell, so I wish to cancel and place another same order, because 200$ is a lot.

Trying to see if anyone has ever got into this stage, what should I do now? Wait the order to come and return it? They kept saying it will be cancelled, starting from "order confirmed" to "order shipped", this is crazy.

I was wondering if the MSI Pen 2 was compatible with the Inspiron 16, as the Dell Active Pen has proved to be a less than optimal experience, and my old MSI Pen 1 does not seem to work as a stylus what-so-ever.

  • Kmode_Exception_Not_Handled (after fresh USB install of windows 11)
  • DPC_Watchdog_Violation (after fresh USB install of windows 11)
• BSODs at Random:
  • Memory Management
  • Critical Process Died
  • Driver Verification (I have updated all drivers and had to roll back a Windows update to clear this)
• Alienware Popup - Pre Boot System Performance Check
  • Critical Error Message - Hard Drive - No Hard Drive detected
    • Error Code: 2000-0141
    • Validation Code: 130633
  • No bootable device found! (Continues to boot into Windows normally)

I have run the-

• sfc /scannow = Comes back clean
• DISM / Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth = Comes back healthy
• DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth = Comes back healthy
• DISM/ Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth = comes back clean
• chkdsk /r = Comes back healthy
• Dell Diagnostics (Offline) - Comes back healthy
• Tested Ram through memtest86 - comes back healthy
• Rolled back the latest Windows Update
• Fresh installed Windows 11 on USB three times...
• CrystalDiskInfo comes back with the C drive at 94% healthy with usage under 2 years!

Around 2 years ago, I dealt with a similar issue and it resolved itself after a Windows Update and removing all browser extensions (I already did this too), however the only difference is that this time the BSODS happen at random as well and not just at start up!

Please help, I've lost so many hours at my job, I appreciate any tech support! :(

I have a work from home setup where i switch between two laptops, work and personal. So one set of monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset and two laptops. The setup is connected through a WD22TB4 Dell Docking Station.

My work laptop has a USB-C port that includes power and display so it connects to the dell docking station fine. However, my person laptop is an ASUS zen book that only has an USB-C data port. When I use my work laptop, I just plug the Dell Docking Station's usb-c into my work laptop. But when i switch to my person laptop, I'd need to unplug the HDMI cable from the docking station, plug it into my ASUS then connect my docking station to the usb-c data only port.

I am looking for a solution where i dont need to unplug my HDMI cable every time that I switch between laptops. Is there a way for USB-C data port to send display data through the WD22TB4 Dell Docking Station?

I'm having some frustrating issues with my Dell Latitude 7480 (Core i7-7600U). Lately, it's been freezing randomly, with the most common problem occurring when I lock the screen. After locking or putting the screen to sleep, the system freezes, and I’m forced to reboot by holding the power button.

It gets worse—most of the times the laptop freezes even during bootup (at the Dell logo), and it doesn't load the OS. I've tried both Ubuntu and Windows 11, and the issue persists in both. I'm unsure which hardware component could be causing this, as it happens in both operating systems.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? I’ve already tried basic fixes like updating drivers and BIOS, but the problem persists. How can I test my hardware to ensure everything is functioning correctly? Any advice on potential fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: My NVMe health is 20% I guess not sure how it got this low. Could that be the reason?

I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5425. All of a sudden it decided not to output anything to its display. There are no beep codes or light codes. When turned on, the fan runs and the keyboard lights up like normal, but nothing else happens. Connecting to an external display does not display anything either. I've done a hard reset as well (disconnect battery, drain power, reconnect battery), this didn't work. I really hope the thing isn't dead, it's barely 2 years old. Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thank you!!

Ich habe von meiner Arbeit zwei Dell P2423DE für das Homeoffice bereitgestellt bekommen. Nach 5 Stunden angeschaltetem Bildschirm ist der erste Monitor einfach ausgegangen und auch die LED hat aufgehört zu leuchten. Dell hat mir relativ schnell einen neuen Bildschirm geliefert und nachdem ich diesen dann angeschlossen hatte, hat auch erstmal alles funtioniert. Für ca. 20 Minuten... Dann ist der zweite Bildschirm mit 5:20 h Betriebsstunden auch gestorben (aus gegangen inkl. LED).

Von meinen Arbeitskollegen habe ich auch schon solche Berichte gehört. Habt ihr da ähnliche Erfahrung mit diesem Bildschirm oder Dell Bildschirmen generell? Oder mache ich etwas grundlegend falsch?

Hier noch mein Setup, falls damit etwas nicht stimmt.:

- Strom aus einer Mehrfachsteckdose zu beiden Monitoren

- Laptop per USB-C Thunderbolt an Monitor 1 angeschlossen

- Maus, Tastertur, und Monitor 2 (per DisplayPort) an Monitor 1 angeschlossen

I have G15 5511 with 56 Wh - 3 cell battery and i want to change my battery. Can i use 86Wh - 6 cell battery instead of mine 56Wh? They have the same voltage and are at the same size.
