What are some good baits for lake sturgeon, I know gizzard Shad work rlly well but nobody sells them. Are the preserved gizzard Shad from magic any good? Also would yellow perch work well?
I'll be up at Crystal Mountain (south of Traverse City) for three days coming up here.
I want to throw my gear in my car and do some fishing. What kind of fishing should I be targeting? I can get to the lake shore pretty easy.
this is my first season fishing for steelhead and I wanted to ask about general tips for steelhead fishing, books series or any good information on catching great lakes steelhead, the best spots to fish around GR and Ada, and I also wanted to ask if the 6th street damm is safe for a 15 year old to fish (I've heard a lot of negative stuff about the area around the dam) some additional information. I Primarily use a spinning rod but know how to flyfish, and I have a boat I might be able to use a few times throughout the runs.
Never been fishing there and wanted to give it a go. If anyone is willing to DM me some advice, I would really appreciate it.
Anyone still getting salmon in the rivers on the west side of the state?
Going smallie fishing this weekend.. Just can't decide on where! I had decent luck last weekend on Croton.. but feel like I could be missing out on a bigger bite out by the connecting lakes off of Michigan.. Where would you go this time of year given then options?
I’m relatively new to fishing, i’ve found that top water has peaked my interest, is this still a good time of year to top water fish?
Anyone have any luck this time of year around Yates cider mil? Read that steelhead, browns, walleye and smallies are running through there round this time in fall
Have heard here and there that walleye can be easier to target even from shore in the fall as the walleye are coming back up from the deep water they’ve been in for the summer. Is this true? Any tips for targeting walleye in the fall?
Will be doing some traveling and won't be able to bring my boat. Can anyone recommend an outfitter that rents canoes/kayaks on the Manistee? I am either looking to paddle upstream and float back to the putin, or hopefully, find an outfitter that could run a shuttle that would let me float from point A to B. Thank you.
I’ll be on clear lake the second week of July 5-12 next year and will be on the south end I believe. Just looking for tips for the lake before I get there. I got a pic of the nautical map.
Looking to learn the habits of bass, pike, and panfish on inland lakes in SE Michigan.
Hey everyone! I’m looking at taking a solo weekend fishing/camping trip here in the next month or so. I live in Walled Lake, MI and I’m down to go anywhere in the state, even the UP. I’m looking for some tips on where to fish and camp. I don’t have a boat or kayak or anything so I’ll be primarily fishing from the bank. I mostly go for pike but I’m happy to catch anything. Any insight on where to fish, camp, if I should rent a boat/kayak, things I should make sure to bring, etc would be greatly appreciated!
Hey everyone. I am a catch and release fisherman that just recently got into trout fishing. I have found it rather satisfying using the online tools available to discover a new stretch of trout stream to fish. I do have a few questions though. I ask these to only further my knowledge.
#1 - I see Type 1 & Type 2 streams don't even allow for catch and release from October through April. Why is this? My guess is to allow them to spawn or relax from angler pressure.
#2 - Type 1 and Type 2 streams that are closed, are closed PERIOD, correct? As in, no fishing for any species whatsoever? I imagine this may be to avoid people from "just bluegill fishing".
#3 - You'll see a blue color coded (type 4) stream that is open all year, and then have a bunch of tributary creeks/backwaters coming off of that are green (type 1) that are now closed. Kinda related to question #1, but just curious to how or what determines this.
Being new, I am open for tips as well. I am not looking for a recommended spot or your go-to lure. But any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
