Thinking of organizing or co-organizing a Euchre Tournament for singles. Im looking for input on how to organize the tables to get the most of meeting someone. Just let the cards determine your partner or try to organize where your partner is opposite sex or potential prospect?

Yeah, we might sip whiskey on the dock in the summer up here in northern Michigan, but finish the story there, Kid of Romeo. Spinning out on 22, shoveling snow up on the roof, it’s winter time in northern Michigan.

PS. Still can’t think of the song we’re singing around this time of year, but it sure as shit isn’t about Alabama.

I love my state, but I worry about the future (this is not a political post).

Most of the homes I passed in rural areas were run-down shacks. One can have little money and still have pride of home and keep it up. These homes were not that, half should be condemned.

The only places that were kept up well and glowing were the numerous dispensaries.

I worry about the kids growing up like this, the only nice businesses in town are the pot stores? Not against pot, but where is the culture? The opportunity?

It was HOURS of this on my drive. So please chew me out and tell me I'm wrong!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of such a move? Do you think there would be any support?

If you’ve ever tried finding career development opportunities or job training programs in Michigan, you’ve probably felt my frustration. Our state websites are like a maze, and it’s nearly impossible to get a clear picture of what’s available—especially when so many of the resources are hyper-regional. If you’re not from a certain area or don’t know the right person, you might miss out entirely.

So, I decided to do something about it.

I started compiling a statewide Career Development Directory that anyone can use for free. It’s simple to search and filter by region or tags, so you can quickly find job training programs, internships, apprenticeships, tech bootcamps, and more—no matter where you are in Michigan.

This started as a personal project because I wanted something like this for myself, but I realized how helpful it could be for others too—especially for those just starting their career journey or looking to make a pivot into tech.

My goal is to keep this directory up-to-date and keep adding new resources. If there’s anything you think I’ve missed or that could be helpful - definitely let me know.

I grew up here but have lived in Oregon the past 15 years.

Does any one know where I could see some snowy owls in the wild semi reliably? I'm staying in St Joe for the holidays with family but can get any where in the state (tho I'm terrified of bridges so I don't particular want to go over the Mackinaw bridge 🤣).

I have been going down the rabbit hole of getting a backyard playset for my hyper active fellas…and it is intimidating! They are expensive and there are sooo many! Before I splurge I NEED to it is worth it and will hold up against Michigan winters. Any testimonials good and bad would be super helpful!!

Is this not a thing in Michigan? I did it all the time when I lived on the West Coast. I think it would be good to get rid of stale air. I suggested it to my brother-in-law to air out a room for a few minutes and he said no it would waste too much money. I've heard people in Germany do it all the time even in winter. Does anyone else air out your house in the winter?

This year is almost certainly going to be less mild compared to the last couple winters. From the meteorologists I’ve seen post, its likely to be the coldest we’ve had in 5+ years(could be wrong, but it’s going to be the coldest one we’ve had in quite a while)

When it does get warmer towards the end of the month, remember the pattern we’re seeing now will come back over and over again.. It’s not the type of pattern that comes once and never again(infamously last year)

Don’t go “oh, winters over” or “coldest winter of the rest of your life!!!!!” when we get bouts of milder weather. We’re likely to end December warmer, not the 50 degrees we got last year, but mid-upper thirties

Nothing in the general pressure patterns(way we get weather, btw) says this winter will be super mild. The fundamentals that gave us super mild winters in the past couple years, or really any of them in the past 20-30 years have barely anything in common with what we’re getting this year.

climate change is very real, and results in unstable year to year temperatures. It’s very possible we may have one of the coldest winters on record this year back to back with the warmest. Cold winters don’t disprove climate change, and they will still happen with climate change. Wait until the end of the season to judge. We’ve all seen how unstable winter weather has become, this year won’t be any different.

I am interested in decorating with real greenery this year but am unsure of what is standard practice. Are there U-pick farms simply for harvesting branches? Is there information on what is allowed to forage for non edible purposes? and where can I read that?

I just watched this movie on Amazon Prime. It stars Ernest Borgnine and is about ice fishing on Houghton lake. Its a comedy although not uproariously funny. It's unique in that it was shot during tip up town.

It's worth a watch if you have nothing to do for an hour and a half.
