Long story short - I was in 5th grade when MGS3 came out. I had played MGS1 on the demo disc that came with my PS1 that i got for Christmas in Kindergarten, and had played through MGS2 but skipped all of the cutscenes as a kid. Point being, I had no real clue what was going on with the series prior to playing MGS3 as a Freshman in high school several years after its release and finally realizing how incredible this series was.
My question for you all that were playing MGS as adults when they were coming out -- Were you all aware that Snake in MGS3 was actually Big Boss and not Solid Snake? Or was it a bait and switch situation like with Raiden in MGS2? Asked another way - Was it a surprise when you started playing MGS3 that you were not actually playing Solid Snake and were actually playing his clone daddy? Or was it made pretty clear in the promotional material that this game took place in the 60s and you were playing as Big Boss?
Thank you!!
I played twin snakez for the first time, never played the original and the stealth is so hard to get used to. The only other metal gear game ive played is mgs3D (ik im playing the worst versions of both games) but it was way easier and i could finish it on extreme with no kills. Could just be that im not used to the lack of camera controls and using the soliton radar but it was so hard and im still at the start of the game.
Out of curiosity, I don't have any MGS4 trophies even if I finished it many times on PS3.
Do you know why?
Any tips for a new player who just unlocked fob's? I dont have a lot of defense security so I dont know what mission should I pick
...that The Boss did not let Naked Snake win?
The Boss let Naked Snake win in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Her death at his hands was orchestrated as part of a complex mission designed to maintain political stability during the Cold War. As a patriot to the very end, The Boss agreed to sacrifice herself to preserve peace between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, knowing it would mean her death and likely public disgrace.
When Naked Snake confronts her in their final battle, she doesn't fight at her fullest strength, despite her unmatched skill and experience. In a way, she "lets" him win because it’s part of her mission—a mission that transcends personal allegiance and goes beyond any desire to survive. Her intention was not only to protect her country but also to ensure that Snake would live and grow from the experience, even if it meant that he’d later bear the guilt and confusion of having killed her.
This orchestrated “victory” becomes the catalyst for Naked Snake’s transformation into Big Boss, setting him on a path of existential questioning and eventual disillusionment. The Boss’s choice to let him win is both an act of loyalty to her nation and a symbolic bequeathing of her ideals to Naked Snake, hoping he might understand and carry on her legacy, even if in a way she could never have foreseen.
I asked chatgpt "Did The Boss let Naked Snake Win?"
I know the story of pw as I’ve watched all the cutscenes before I played MGSV but I anyway decided to play it as I was getting bored of doing the same missions again and again on V. but why is the gameplay just basically waiting for soldiers to turn their back towards you and then sneaking past them? (Kinda like the original metal gear on nes). V had so much freedom to approach a situation, pw obv wins in terms of story but the gameplay feels shallow? Maybe I’m in the beginning stage so is it going to improve or that’s just how the way it is?
I've been meaning to get into the series for a long time. However, prior to a week ago, all my previous attempts to do so started and ended at MGS1. For the longest time, the game didn't fully click with me. Recently, I decided to sit down and play through the full game finally, and while I enjoyed it a ton, I didn't consider myself a fan really. I still didn't fully connect with it as much as I wanted to, which is a bit of a shame. However, when I played through MGS2 afterwards, that's when the series finally clicked for me. MGS2 has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time for a multitude of reasons, and a lot of what it brings to the table helped me finally connect with the series. I was so engaged that as soon as I finished the game, I immediately started playing through MGS3. I finished that game two days ago, and I loved it just as much as MGS2. I plan on playing through 4, PW, and 5 sometime soon as well.
Basically, I think this series is cool and I finally get it now.
Just finished Ground Zeroes. There was something about this that I liked more than Phantom Pain. I dunno... it felt more like a simple, traditional linear MGS game. Infiltrating that compound felt way more in line with the Metal Gear I grew up playing. I kinda wish Ground Zeroes had been its own full fledged MGS title, rather than a short prologue to Phantom Pain, complete with unique bosses, plot twists and a badass bipedal mech that served as the end boss. It was over way too quick... Don't get me wrong, I love Phantom Pain for what it is, but I always loved that style of MGS where you essentially just had one objective and one long mission rather than the bite sized missions that were introduced in Portable Ops.
So in the last week I figured I should dig my PS3 out and buy the MGS Legacy Collection. I’m first playing the series in release order and I’m currently on MGS3 and wondering where to go after this. I’m assuming 4 and then Peacewalker but I just want to make sure lol. Also really enjoying this series for the first time, glad I finally caved in and jumped on it
Well I'm playing mgs2 on my pc with keyboard and i just learned how to throw, but what's the use like the soldiers keep getting up and alert the strike team where should i use it or should i even use it?
In mgs2 raiden says he met rose in the foxhound base he got transferred to in new york after the skyscraper disagreement, but where is this base at? Is it like on a submarine or something and that's why raiden was in Manhatten?
I want to put together a naked snake cosplay and just need the stabo harness but had a heart attack when I saw how much people want for them so I’m coming to you all for advice.
I just failed the torture and I hadn’t saved since before psycho mantis. The temptation to chuck my steam deck across the room is insane
