Mercury Toxicity in Blood

Looking for any advice and/or help. My doctor ordered a test for heavy metals & results came back as 15 ug/L. Specifically, I am hoping to know (1) how large of an exposure is this (2) any thoughts about possible exposure source and (3) what can I do, if anything, to reduce the mercury in my body. Background: I rarely eat seafood (other than occasional shrimp), have no silver dental filings, do not work in any occupation with exposure to mercury, and do not handle antiques. I do take a prenatal & fish oil supplement from FullWell (which supposedly does independent 3rd party testing on each batch). Any thoughts on the above? Looking for advice, input, and maybe some hope!

Wish this forum was more active

Wish this forum was more active. Everyone is obsessed with mold as their core issue and the mold forums have thousands of people. I see people batting at the specter of mold for years or decades and not getting better. I have a strong suspicion that heavy metal toxicity is much more at the root of peoples' woes. I doubt many other things can get much better until someone has successfully detoxed heavy metals. Wish more people realized this and were active on the mercury / heavy metal threads.

Why is this community so much more sparse whereas things like mold, hypothyroidism, etc are much more active? Do most chelation stories just not end well? Chelation is difficult, but if you don't remove the heavy metals I don't see how you get better. It is notoriously difficult for the body to naturally detox heavy metals. Andy Cutler spoke of this -- fish have mechanisms for methylating and sequestering mercury, but mammals do not. The toxic load just builds over time. Suffice to say, I think a lot of folks are ignoring the problem of heavy metal tox as though by not paying attention it will just go away. I certainly did for a long time. I looked at blood tests and just concluded that being in reference range meant no heavy metal. How wrong I was. It took me two years to finally muster up the open mindedness to run a hair test and grapple with the unfortunate truth of my situation.

I'll stop my ranting, but I just think this heavy metal stuff deserves many more eyeballs and attention. I am so sick of reading the mold forums. It's just all people who have been dealing with mold for years if not decades and not getting better. Furthermore, it's a lot of brainwashed people who think mold could be the only conceivable explanation and if I didn't get better following all their protocols, then I didn't do it right or I am just in a detox phase and I'll "get worse before I feel better". It's all incredibly myopic and quite frankly offensive at times.

I'd love to see heavy metal forums get more active. I will try to contribute more here

broke a mercury thermometer in my bathroom

So I just broke a mercury thermometer in my bathroom, unfortunately it broke near a heat source (my bathroom heather) , and panicking I put it on another counter, that's when I noticed two big beads spilling out, I cleaned, threw away everything accordingly and went to shower normally (dumb decision I know).

After the shower I decided to Google more about a mercury spillage and panic set it, I managed to clean most beads I could see with a torch using tape and a paper towel Checked everywhere, floor, counter, threw away my carpet too, and I can't see a single bead anymore, are they all gone? I feel like there are probably some that I can't see with just my eyes and that does worry me :/

The fact that there were some tiny beads near the bathroom heater, scare me to death, what if they evaporated? It was only really really small beads, less than 1mm in size, and probably around 10 northing more, but still🥲 I'm keeping the bathroom door close to the rest of the house and keeping the window open for two days at the very least

Is there anything else I can do? Do you think some evaporated and now I'm in danger?

Esoteric Experiences

I'm hoping that this post doesn't get removed. I started having extreme precognitive and esoteric experiences a few years ago. Had no idea what was happening. The precognitive aspect kept me from seeking any sort of help for what was happening to me. I documented my experiences many times before they came true, and had many friends witness these things come to fruition. I always wondered though... what had triggered this. Well... recently I just had a load of blended cilantro... and it resulted in an uptick of phenomena. I did some research and eventually found the Andy Cutler Facebook group. Did a thiol food test... similar things happened. Out of body experiences... and felt horrible. I'm currently growing my hair out for the test. Another friend with similar symptoms just got his test back and it's positive for mercury via "all low" counting method. Would anyone care to share their experiences or even speculation regarding this?

Struggling to get help in the U.K.

Hey guys and girls,

I can see that this group is a bit dead but I haven’t managed to find any other groups so far so I just thought I’d try my luck on here and see if anyone thinks I’m overreacting.

I broke a 1980s mercury filling maybe 2 months ago, or to be more accurate, the sliver of tooth attached to the amalgam came off.

I’m bedbound with severe ME and a slew of other conditions so in an ideal world, unless I know for sure I’m going to get some help or be admitted, just like everyone else with severe chronic health issues, I don’t want to sit on the little flimsy plastic chairs in my local A&E for up to 18 hours which would cause absolutely crippling pain and PEM.

To cut a long story short, 6 weeks ago I got what I thought was a kidney infection and got antibiotics. Then it came back, so I was put on a different lot of antibiotics that didn’t seem to make any difference at all. Both times it turned out that my sample was never tested because the container had leaked…but they never tell you that, they just let very immunocompromised people take what ended up becoming 3 lots of antibiotics - I realised the third time I didn’t have a fever so I stopped the tablets after a day and a half and a lovely paramedic came over and tested my sample in the kitchen and discovered that while it had blood in it there was no nitrites? But that it could still be an infection due to bacteria.

Since then I’ve had severe kidney pain and burning UTI type pain every day (as I have since it started,) and then 3 days ago, I woke up with the worst sore throat, burning lungs and chest pain, as well as a lot of crackles in my neck and upper respitory tract. Ive had to learn to use my vocal cords in a whole new way to be able to speak without coughing. Ive also lost control oc my bladder, have insomnia, can’t walk far at all without needing an asthma inhaler as I literally can’t get my breath (luckily I have an inhaler to help with wheezing sometimes although I don’t have asthma.)

I haven’t had any contact with anyone much for a while apart from one carer who is fine, so clearly this, as far as I understand it from everything I’ve now read on the subject, is actually the fairly normal trajectory for mercury poisoning.

I’ve never met a paramedic I didn’t like before, but my carer called 111 for me after the only possible GP appointment they could give me was up loads of stairs which I can’t manage.

Even though my carer explained I really just wanted a urine and maybe a blood test taking back to the lab to check for mercury and that I didn’t want to go to A&E, they sent 3 paramedics, one of whom asked me non-stop questions about what was in every single cardboard box in my hallway and living room, asked me how my house had got into that state (I’m mostly bedbound and my mum, who was my full time carer, died very unexpectedly a year and a half ago and yes, my house is a bit of a tip. Most of it is my Christmas shopping (which I obviously haven’t had the strength to wrap or post,) and the girl started reading out what was in certain boxes in the hall including the present I’ve bought for the carer who was present at the time so I had to stop her and tell her she was being really nosy. I think she assumed I must be on benefits and pointed out how expensive P.Louise items are and asked how I’d managed to buy them and why they were there (that’s a boxed beauty advent calendar that arrived in 4 boxes.)

The only one of them that was remotely helpful was the man, who had heard of Mercury poisoning so acknowledged its existence, said that in fact they can test for it and treat it in hospital but that he’s not too hopeful that they would in our local hospital.

They said under no circumstances could they take my urine sample or do a blood test (even though a paramedic had given me blood tests at home a week previously and taken a urine sample to the lab,) and that what I should do is ask the nurse at the gynae department to take these for me the following day when I was going for a transfusion for severe anaemia.

I found this to be an unlikely scenario as the nurses can’t really leave the ward and they only deal with gynae matters, but I said okay. I’d explained I’d had two episodes of hypothermia even with the heating up as high as it would go to the point where my lips, fingertips and nose were freezing and numb, and that I was shaking and my teeth were chattering uncontrollably, followed by absolutely burning up but remaining totally dry, and that I’d spent the day praying and trying to stay awake because I felt really strongly that if I fell asleep I could die. I told them I was really scared I was dying, that the room was spinning, that I couldn’t walk from one room to another without absolutely fighting for breath and needing to use an inhaler.

I was in a cold sweat when they saw me which has kind of kept up since then but I daren’t turn my heating down in case I have an episode of hypothermia again. When I explained again to the other young woman about why my house was in disarray, and said unless you’ve been bedbound and watched all your dreams, social life and career pulled from under you, you can never know what it feels like so there’s no point in trying to explain. She laughed at this and I think they thought I just had a cold (my temperature, blood sugar and blood pressure were fine as I was in the cold sweat phase by now,) and that the metallic taste in my mouth and the throwing up and coughing up blood was just caused by broken blood vessels.

They wanted me to go to the hospital with them yet glazed over when I explained again why I’d rather get tested and know for sure than sit in an uncomfortable chair paying hundreds for my care agency or bothering my partner to sit with me (she would but she’s a chef and very busy and I wouldn’t want her up til the early hours on a work night for potentially absolutely no help whatsoever). I ended up asking them to leave as they wouldn’t or couldn’t help me and then wrote a lengthy complaint about the one who had been going through all my belongings and some of my late mum’s belongings probably, all witnessed by my carer.

The only mercury safe dentist in my city (that’s more like a little town,) said that even in an emergency I’d have to wait 18 months on a waiting list to get help. I’m too unwell to go out of town.

I know this is such a long message but can anyone help me here - am I being irrational in thinking that at this point, with memory loss, muscle weakness, shaking, involuntary twitching, excruciating coughing and throat pain accompanied by blood, and ongoing severe kidney pain and now sort of generalised flu like pain, the next step is that it goes to my brain? And isn’t it also true that it’s not out of the question that someone is close to death in this state? I feel my mind and my will to live sliding away from me. It’s not depression, just resignation and regrets about my life. The main thing I’m living for is my solicitor to get back to me so I can ensure everything goes to my partner and not my completely absent family.

Am I actually crazy for thinking this could be serious or am I just being stupid, which is how I’ve been made to feel? I was right that the gynae nurses couldn’t take my samples if they wanted to as it’s not their remit and they have to stay on the ward, but that the paramedics absolutely could have taken my blood and urine samples at home and actually put me on a nebuliser as they have in the past.

The more oxygen I lose from my brain I think, the more numb I become about the idea of dying now, providing I make a will in time.

Am I wrong to think that I do in fact have many symptoms of potentially having inhaled fragments of 50% mercury amalgam and risk death if I just leave it? I don’t know where to turn. Thank you so much if anyone reads this or can be bothered to read to the end ❤️

Poisoned!!

I think I was poisoned by my husband.. I escaped a few months ago. Looking back, I’ve had a lot of illnesses and would severely sweat or projectile vomit after smoking a cigarette he left for me in an open pack. It’s not showing in my blood. Where can I get my hair tested? For mercury, lead, arsenic, and thallium.

I’m in the St. Louis area. I can’t find anything. There’s a million places to send your hair to when I Google it, but is there a more reputable company?

Workplace toxin PLEASE HELP ME

I am hoping for some help figuring out what toxin I am reacting to in my workplace environment. I work in a healthcare facility, the building is only about 24 years old.

symptoms: severe headaches (debilitating) (I believe high intracranial pressure) visual changes tinnitus itching hands and feet fatigue brain fog

these are my most concerning symptoms. I know theres a whole slew of possibilities, but the reason why I know in my gut that it is a workplace "toxin" is because I have been "away" (on medical leave) for 2 different times now and after about 10 weeks I completely healed. No symptoms at all! returned to work and within 2 hours the extreme head pain began again. I was on the leave because I couldnt work anymore because of the pain.

Also, I have 2 coworkers with similar symptoms and have been dealing with life changing issues from them. and many others with milder versions of the symptoms. I am healthy, almost 30, and I have no other comorbidities.

I am not stressed, this is not a "stress from the job" reaction. this is very severe, almost like an allergic response. I know the best thing to do would be quit and move along, which I plan to do. But I am so passionate about my job and I am so upset to have to give it up.

Does anyone have any idea what toxin could do this? and how should I get tested?

Amalgam filling removed

Hello, I had my upper rear molar amalgam filling removed last week. It was a large filling I had since 4th grade. Actually, when I was in 4th grade the dentist put 5 big amalgam fillings in my upper molars. Then I got so sick with a "recycling ♻️ virus" I had a tutor for a year. So last week my pregnant 🤰 dentist was drilling away I could see the fumes going up to her paper mask, I felt bad for her and told her my concerns but, she assured me she was fine. After she removed that horrible mercury from my mouth, hours later the pain set in. Then in the days after jaw, (canker sore on) tongue 👅, ear, glands, neck and liver has been in pain. It's been a week now and it just seems continue. I saw the dentist the next day and she said it's normal when amalgam is removed. I don't know if I should see my regular doctor or just wait it out.

Strange health problem!

This problem started 4 months ago with these simptome:muscle contractions in arm, especially fingers, extreme hunger, dry mouth, instant pooping sensation (from intense intestinal contractions), extreme polyuria, tachycardia and hypertension. I processed lots of tests and only the following are modified: ph: 7,52, lactate dehidrogenase 1800u/l, sometimes glucose 150-350, platelets 80.000. After I move around (just walking)I make edema and muscles becomes swallowed and painful. Firstly it affected the muscles in legs, after the reaction stopped on the legs, it continued to the body with toracic muscles and now head muscles. Has anyone a clue about this disease? The doctors suspected even a poisoning but they don't know even now what it is, I was in lots of hospitals and I couldn't find a solution.

How are HgSe complexes removed from body?

Hi,

So I read that by taking selenium you can inactivate mercury. They will bind to each other and stay as HgSe complex which is way less toxic. But how exactly this HgSe complex is removed from human body? Which phase two liver detoxification pathway is used to remove it? Kidney into urine? Bile to stool?

Migraines with no answers

I’ve always had migraines ever since I was a teen. In my 20’s I was rushed to the hospital for symptoms of a stroke. Symptoms alleviated and they diagnosed me with hemiplegic migraines.

I’m 35 now and have constant head pressure and weekly migraines or headaches that last as long as a week. I take sumatriptan, butal-acet-caff and a monthly injection of ajovy to control the migraines. However, I still get them.

I also take gabapentin for restless legs and unexplained body jolts/shocks.

And sertraline for anxiety.

Again in my 20’s I noticed some spots that would appear on my tongue. My doctor took a look and diagnosed them as geographic tongue. Said they’re benign. So I just assumed it was nothing.

I started noticing recently the spots only appear where my fillings are on my molars. And it’s consistent. So I thought maybe I developed an allergy or some kind of reaction to my filling. This morning I decided to look up fillings causing sores on the tongue. Now I’m wondering if my headaches are linked to possible mercury poisoning???

I’ve had the fillings since I was about 12 years old. My last dental visit they did say the fillings were cracked and should be replaced. Is it possible my anxiety, memory loss, severe head pain (bulging eye, hearing loss, dim vision, nausea/vomiting) is a link to mercury poisoning???

MRI was fine, ECG’s were fine (had a partial seizure due to hemiplegic migraine, seizures during anesthesia), thyroids were fine.

Calling the dentist Monday anyway to get them replaced.

Heavy metals poisoning in adult and 4 kids ,

Hi everyone ,

On 24 October 2023 myself(40M) my 2 sons (12/2) and my 2 daughters (10/7) tested positive for heavy metals mainly Lead /cobalt /aluminium/chromium, the test was using chelation agent then 3 hours urine collection (done in Thailand), most likely we indigested it but my wife and i are struggling to know where was the exposure.

However my job now is based in dubai and struggling to find a reliable hospital world wide ( I prefer Europe )to retest and get treated if positive again ?

Do you know a reputable healthcare facility that can offer the treatment ?

Also I want to know Was the test procedure reliable ?

Just to add I have noticed lately that i am a bet in bad mode and my kids developed very aggressive behavior , also since one week my daughter (10) started crying at night and scared (first time since she was born)

I am thinking and reading hear and there and it is really exhausting me a lot as i don’t know where start and what to do

Please share with me your kind support and guidance

Mercury toxicity symptoms/sensitivity

I’m wondering if some people are more sensitive to mercury exposure than others and what symptoms you experience?

I recently tried DMSO and it stirred up a lot of mercury and I haven’t been the same for 3 months. I did a round of 12.5mg DMSA last week and had the worst adrenal fatigue in my life (no cortisol during the day, then cortisol at midnight and not sleeping). I’ve slightly improved after drinking lots of water and taking extra Mg, vit C and Bs.

My symptoms are constipation (my entire life), anxiety (since a child), depression (since 14), SIBO/candida (since teens), gallbladder attacks (since 20), chronic fatigue (20+), low body temperature (20+). At 38 I still have all these symptoms and have not made much improvement.

I’m curious to know if most other mercury toxic people suffer from these similar symptoms and if there’s a genetic component to our body’s ability to handle mercury detoxification.

I am hetero mthfr but that’s as far as I know. I’d be interested to know if it could be related to blood type as well.

I may be wrong in my assumptions, but it doesn’t make sense with just about everyone with amalgams, thimerosol exposure, etc, how is everyone not suffering from mercury toxicity?

Could my husband's issues, like mental symptoms like hallucinations and delusions, actually be caused by poisoning from amalgam fillings?

So I'm going to try to keep this kind of short but my husband has been with me for 16 years when we met we were love at first sight type deal we've been through a lot together and we were very very close and he was my best friend and everything was okay because we were together through all of it but recently for the past 5 years actually he's developed some very serious mental problems sometimes and like delusions auditory hallucinations extreme lethargy just a lot of weird stuff that didn't really ever quite make sense and he's never really gotten a complete diagnosis on it. So the thing is he was 33 when he started having these symptoms and before that he had really bad insomnia symptoms he's had really bad digestive problems like gallbladder problems and very bad Harper and then won't go away no matter what at times it flares up and goes away it's weird but his auditory hallucinations are constant and persistent from the day that he started having them I didn't believe him at first about that but over time I've come to believe him I mean I've seen him at his worst of times he will talk to coffee pots and stuff like that and things that they're people communicating with him his head and it's terrible so of course you naturally you know we thought he had schizophrenia. But the thing is none of the schizophrenia medicine has helped him at all the only thing it does is put him to sleep but he either can't sleep and like when I say he can't sleep I mean he will not be able to sleep even if he takes a ridiculous amount of sedatives and then there's also the times where he can't not sleep and he will literally be in bed for days and days and days and days and days and just and I mean just not wanting to get out and I can't do anything he started abusing amphetamines to I guess to to stop being this tired all the time but the thing is they don't make a schizophrenia any worse or better it's weird like you would think they would make it worse but actually I've noticed that smoking though even just cigarettes makes it a lot worse a lot worse like and also like I've noticed that if I started suspecting his teeth as a part of the problem when I saw his teeth I never really look in his mouth and the thing is though his mouth looks like somebody just melted a bunch of black gray crap in there like he has 11 among them feelings and they're all at least 20 years old and they were put in his mouth and he was eight and I mean they're horrible looking they they just they're just terrible looking and I don't know to get them removed is so expensive I called and was going to try to help him get him removed but they're so expensive and I don't know like we just recently got insurance but I started suspecting your mercury poisoning after that and the other thing is myself so before my husband got sick we used to be very sexually active together and I started having problems like I've had really bad. You know ever since the past 10 years maybe like really they're not progressively worse the point where they're like so bad that their debilitating me bad I also have lethargy you know and stuff like that like randomly kind of just coming out of nowhere we both often times just get like we can't get things done sometimes between the two of us because we just can't quite pull it together you know like we just never can pull stuff together like we just I don't know we're not 30 days and like you know we stop having sex since you know he's been so sick and it's been hard to have a connection together because of that but the thing is since we stop having sex I've sort of feeling a little bit better if not tremendously better but but better notably better and I don't know it's just it's just I really believe that this is what's wrong with him and I think it's getting worse and I think it's getting so bad he's way over 200 lb and now he weighs like less than me probably I mean he probably weighs like a hundred and forty pounds 150 lb and he's 6 ft tall and I just I went to the hospital with him one night when he was having a really bad particularly about time you just have a really bad kidney pain and you know and they they refuse to do a Mercury test for me they laughed at me when I told him I thought that it was those fillings in his mouth and then they just sent us home after they couldn't find anything else wrong I decided to try him speak with a dentist and see if maybe I should take him to the dentist so I look for one that did the safe removal thing because I thought maybe they might believe me I didn't want to get him laughed at again and then mail I didn't want someone who didn't know what they were doing messing with his teeth either because you know I don't want them riding in another and giving him fucking a cute mercury poisoning and kill him anyway so then I called them the closest one with over an hour away from me almost 2 hours away from me and they said that it was going to be like a ridiculous amount of money to and they're talking about 10,000 or more because he hasn't been all four quadrants and the teeth are ground down so bad that most of them are going to need crowns I don't know if implants will be cheaper but I imagine not and I feel like he's running out of time I've got him taking some things that I hope will help him to be able to get through this but shit but I don't know how much longer you can last like this and I'm scared so can somebody please help me I just don't know what to do I'm really broke right now I don't have a lot of money right now and and I don't know what to do

Mercury info needed

From June 2021-December 2021 I ate tuna on a daily basis. Starkist pouches. Sometimes twice a day. Didn’t know about mercury. Only learned about it a couple weeks ago when sudden insomnia and bad anxiety sent me to ER.

Long story short, I thought I suffered a concussion about 6 weeks ago. I went a week with brain fog, headaches, anxiety, face tingling/burning sensation. After a week of not knowing wtf was going on, I finally noticed a swollen bump on my head. I had them remembered hitting my head while standing at work on a metal surface. At the time the hit phased me a bit but quickly shook it off. The symptoms were delayed a whole day I didn’t connect the two at the time. But when I felt the bump, went to ER, CT scan turned out clean. Ruled I suffered a concussion. I neglected concussion treatment in first week and expected delayed recovery.

2 weeks ago, suffered new symptoms. Major derealization and awful insomnia. Vision issues. After being up 3 days, my sister brought up mercury. Someone she knew had gotten it from eating a lot of fish. Said my symptoms seemed similar to his. This freaked me the hell out, another ER trip ensued. ER wasn’t equipped to test me for it (not is anywhere in my shit town) but doctor said “it would be out of your system by now if you stopped eating it that long ago”. So I just kind of agreed and thought “I’m overthinking this and I’m dealing with PCS. (Post concussion syndrome. Which is scary b it nowhere near as scary as mercury). But. Damn. As days go by and I still can’t sleep without a z drug, and there’s no difference in how I feel. I can’t help but still be scared of mercury.

Basically I’m asking if anyone knows if mercury symptoms can be so delayed. I stopped exposing myself 16-17 months before symptoms even occurred. Just seems like it doesn’t line up but I’m also baffled how what seemed like a minor bump to the noggin at work at the time actually caused a concussion that’s caused me issues 6+ weeks later. I’m just scared. I just want to feel like myself again. If anyone has information, I’d appreciate it. Thanks. Just needed to vent.

GLP-1 Medications and Mercury Chelation?

I was recently prescribed Ozempic to treat my type 2 diabetes, and after researching how the medication works. I am a little worried about how its slow gastric emptying effects will handle mercury chelators like ALA, DMPS, and DMSA. Do you know of anyone else's experience with taking this type of medication while trying to chelate? Can this medication affect the timing of the half-life dosage for the chelators?

Easier Periods after Amalgam Removal

Hi all! I just wanted to add some anecdotal experience I thought may be helpful for some. I had a visibly broken mercury filling (silver/amalgam filling) removed two months ago along with a crown replacement for a crown that wasn't fitting well, so I've had two sources of mercury removed from my mouth. There is still an amalgam tattoo leftover in my gum from my previous dentist that I intend to have removed. I've had these in my mouth since I was at least 10 or 12 years of age, and since about 14 or so I've struggled with unbearably period cramps. Advil wasn't even enough to make them tolerable enough to get out of bed on day one of my period and it would cause me to miss school and work. I'm 27 now and this has still been the case despite trying every natural method I can to fix it besides birth control. I'm doing well in other health areas and I have regular, seemingly healthful periods and fertility, the cramps are just very painful. Well two months ago I had my amalgams removed, using a lot of safety techniques, and my last two periods have been so so so so much less painful. I was not expecting that result at all and I didn't even relate it to the mercury. I was very confused by it and brought it up with my boyfriend. He found a research study from Japan, where female workers who were exposed to mercury at their factory jobs had very high levels of dysmenorrhea (painful period cramps) compared to those who weren't, due to Mercury's effect on hormone levels. I'm hoping this pattern continues for myself!
