I’m a European married to a Kurd and I’m trying to learn Sorani to get more into the culture and so that me and her family don’t have a big language barrier every time im in Kurdistan.

Kurdish Sorani Anki Deck

Edit: the deck is now available to download

Hi everyone. I've been learning Kurdish Sorani for a few years and I've made this Anki Deck for Sorani vocabulary that I thought people might find useful. It has ~850 words (including present roots when they're irregular) and I'm still working on adding to it. I've done my best to verify each translation and most have been given by teachers, but I'm not perfect so if people do see any mistakes I'd really apprecate if people let me know.

Also, these are some translation sites that I've found useful/have been recommended to me by Sorani speaker:

Kurd

I saw kurdish people are very simple and innocent. They are living their life, no idea why other countries try to fight with them.

Min pirsek heye

Silav!

In this sentence: "Mala wê li derveyî bajarî ye." - why is the adjective (derveyî) before the noun (bajarî)? Why is it not "li bajarê derveyî"?

Thank you in advance!

Translation to Kurmancî

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me with a translation into Kurmancî for a project I'm working on. I don't trust the accuracy of the online translation services. It would be much appreciated.

English

Look, look, here are two buildings next to each other. Our house was over there, we used to live over there. We looked and it was gone in the morning. When we came out, it was gone, The building had fallen down.

I mean, anywhere in Adıyaman you see empty anyways. These were all buildings.

If it helps, the original words were spoken in Turkish:

Bak, bak burada iki tane bina yan yana. Bizim ev şurası, şurada oturuyorduk. Bir baktık, sabah yok. Çıktığımızda yok, inmişti aşağıya.

Yani Adıyaman'da boş gördüğün her yer zaten böyle. Bunların hepsi binaydı.

Offering Kurdish Sorani lessons + English

Hi there,

I am a native Kurdish speaker (central kurdish AKA Sorani) and I am offering lessons and exchange.

I have also taught English to APP students at the American University of Iraq Sulaimani, so if anyone is interested feel free to text me and we will discuss this!

I will try to help out as much as I can, but with the economical state of our government and country I am unable to offer free lessons, this will be my main source of income, and that is if I find students interested. I am a student myself and I need to support myself and continue to afford my studies.

Thank you for your understanding, please refer me to anyone who’s willing to learn English or Kurdish, your support means a lot and will help me pursue my education and make it possible to do so.

How to say mom, dad, grandparents in Kurdish

Hello, Is it true that “daiya” is mom and “bawa” is dad? What do you call your grandparents?

My husband insists that our daughter will call his parents for daiya and bawa. Is that correct way?

how do you say "f#cking" in sorani?

"f#cking" that would come before a verb (as in "i don't f#cking know"). google translate says "be gêliyewe"بە گێلیەوە, which that "gêl" sounds like gunêl/gonhêl which means sex in badini -though i guess it's only used for animals. so if it's "be gêliyewe", in badini it's supposed to be "bi gunêlê ve"? i'm pretty sure there is not a direct translation for "f#cking" in northern kurdish so i'm trying to set up a standard by comparing it with other kurmanj languages.

min be gêliyewe nazanim! من بە گێلیەوە ناتوانم i don't f#cking know! ez bi gunêlê ve nizanim(?)

do sorani speakers use this? i'm from the north so i don't know nor have i ever heard from the media. do you guys use this? or if there's any other expressions instead please let me know. i need it for a translation. spas.
