I picked up a z3 short block with 240k miles and I started tearing it down until I noticed this gouge on one of the pistons. Should I replace the piston or is it still usable if filed down to smooth it out. I’m currently doing a full rebuild so any help would be appreciated. The motor will not see any boost but will be FBO in my 8th gen si
I have a 1997 Honda accord 2 door and I have a k20z3 engine with 200,000 miles on it. I haven’t really messed with the engine yet because I don’t know where I should start on it and what I should upgrade or replace on it. I am eventually gonna put a turbo kit onto it and want it to make at some where in the 400-600hp range. Any advice?
Is there any tips or tricks to better seal the spool valve on the side of the head? I am just covering the side of my engine with oil. Putting on a new strainer gasket today but are you doing anything else like Hondabond or something?
I have a 2011 honda accord with a k24z3 and 5 speed manual trans that currently pops out of 5th gear. I'm looking for info on what trans can just bolt in without any Xtra work. Such as the mounting points and everything else
At the time of the run, the setup was K20A2 head, 08 TSX block, 08 TSX cams, 50° VTC, K20 oil pump, RDX injectors, Golden Eagle rail, 70mm TB, port matched RBC manifold, Invidia race header and Q300 catback.
Im looking at donor engines for my nb miata. Ive decided to run the z3 for various reasons out of the TSX platform over the Accord. I found one for sale with a harness, it has 250k km/155k miles on it. Told the harness is complete other than one VVT connector is broken. Said the engine skipped timing and bent valves. Im a tech so I’m not worried about a rebuild but with interference engines like the K series. Would that engine be completely toast, would it just need valves (and very likely pistons) to be good again or am I looking into a whole head replacement/machining. Just want to get an idea before I drop money into a headache where I should have just got a running engine. Thank you all for the info
Hello everyone. I have a 2013 Honda accord with the k24w1 engine. This is one of the least popular k series engines because few parts are interchangeable with the other k engines. I was wondering if an rrc or rbc intake manifold paired with a skunk2 alpha 74mm throttle body would fit on the car. There are no videos of it being done online as far as I can tell so if anyone knows if this would work, letting me know would be greatly appreciated. And if it does not fit what would be an alternative?
02 rsx type s shell what should i do with it?
I have an 02 Acura Rsx base 5 Speed I’m about to pick up this Type s Shell and pieces with it for $500 Everything looks great etc but my main question is what to put in it. a lot of ppl are saying the K20a2 would be a waste and i should jump straight to k24a2 both motors have their pros and cons and ofc if you mix you get the best of both worlds. Also would i be able to keep my 5 speed (a3 trans) and swap it over to the new shell or would it be better to get the type s 6 speed as well as the K20a2 Would i need a new Ecu if i switch trans lowkey wanted the k20z1 trans if i could find it. 4.7 vs 4.3 final drive (fd) its all an idea so i can figure out what i want to put inside of the type s shell. mainly just want to make the car a good daily and sleeper as well if possible!
Last year I began having trouble with my car (k24rsx 06) stalling after it had been warmed up/driven for a while. I made sure everything was mechanically correct and it all seems ok. The problem occurs after the car has been driven around. It will just stall at idle and sometimes it would start but when it did it would be unresponsive and datalogs show that it would be very lean. I changed every sensor when the car wouldn’t start after stalling and it didn’t change anything. During this time no codes surfaced. More recently the car just didn’t start at all. It sounds like it’s about to start then stalls due to what seems to be fuel issues. The fuel pump is good and fuel pressure is good. I sprayed carb cleaner into the intake and it fired up. I also installed a stock ecu and the car fired up like normal.
I didn’t make any changes to the tune (stock 91 tune from hondata). The car was working fine. I just left it sitting during summer of 2023 and only drove it once. Could this have caused any damage to the ecu? I was thinking injector drivers but if that went bad then It would crank continuously but It sounds like it wants to start for one second then stalls. Again with the stock ecu it fires up when it won’t start up with the kpro.
I sent my kpro to HAMotorsports to check it out but they told me they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. They switched my kpro board onto another ecu and sent it back to me. I drove the car for 2 week at the end of 2023 then from the last week of January to midway of march 24’ when the problem came back. I was at the drive thru and it dropped in rpm to 500 and then picked back up to normal. Eventually one day I went to the junk yard and parked it for a few hours, I went to leave and it didn’t start back up, luckily I had my stock ecu and it started right up so it’s obviously the kpro. Another time at home I just let it idle and eventually it stalled by itself. When attempting to start it sounds like it gets fuel for one second then no fuel preventing it from starting. I sent it hondata and all they did was put it in a car and tell me it was fine. Again I can install it and it will work like normal but after driving around and coming to a stop it will stall like I cut the key off. It will start back up after it’s cooled down. Also I tested the kpro by heating it up on my dash and the car didn’t start so something is getting too hot inside the ecu.
I have been using my stock ecu since march and I thankfully haven’t had the problem. It’s annoying not being able to use it and not even knowing what the problem is. At the time I changed tps, map, iacv, coil packs, fuel pump.
Howdy folks I’m in need of some assistance. I want to preface this by saying this is not a project I have any intent on getting underway soon. I have a limited knowledge of cars at this point but would like to learn more, and that’s why I’m here.
Firstly, I understand an engine swap is a big undertaking that requires a lot of knowledge. As someone who doesn’t at this time have the resources to jump in to a field where I could sit and learn first hand from professionals, what is some advice yall could give that would help me in getting the knowledge to do an engine swap. What is some current maintenance or reading I can do to up my skills.
Secondly, I already am the owner of an ‘05 Honda Civic LX with a k series engine in it. Now I know usually people will swap in to things like a Miata, but I’m looking to do something different and exciting. I’m a big fan of cars from the 70’s and 80’s, especially boxy daily drivers like old Mercedes and Volvos. Can yall help point me towards some vehicles that you think a swap like this would be interesting to see a k series engine in?
Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions. I understand this will likely be an expensive project as well, which is why I don’t intend to undertake it at this time
Hey guys, thought i would share my plan before i go ahead and pull the trigger on buying an AWD transmission from a 03 CRV.
Im doing a k swap soon on my 93 hatch , JDM K24A with an accord 5 speed, but the thing is ive noticed from people and some search that this tranny has long ahh gears, would be better for boosted options but not for NA builds like mine.
So i came up with an idea that i buy an AWD CRV transmission to get the Final drive ring gear and the actual gearing from and put it into my accord transmission, (now before you say just buy an si transmission, my response would be i would love to its just too expensive to get any actual good transmissions where i live, the only available options is an accord or CRV transmissions)
Now, you might also ask would this be worth it ? I think yeah it might be an interesting project and a good gearing ratio too
Heres what im talking about :
Accord 5 speed Accord (w.crv gearing) 1st - 3.266. 3.533 2nd - 1.769. 1.88 3rd - 1.147. 1.212 4th - 0.872. 0.921 5th - 0.659. 0.659 (Accord 5th) FD - 4.389 4.764
From my search it should be straight forward to just switch the gears, my only one concern is something could possibly be different in the CRV tranny due to it being AWD.
So what is your guys thoughts ?
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Glowshift gauges (e85 wideband air/fuel, oil pressure, boost, etc.) and how it has been. Are they accurate? Are they bad? Are they a pain to install? Are they amazing?
Looking to upgrade my to a standalone wideband sensor to work with hondata, i see there is tons of conversion within the wideband for AEM which ones is good for turbo setups?
So im curious if it would be easier to swap a k24a2 in too my 2010 honda accord or just get a a2 head to fit the z3 block ??
Hi everyone,
I currently own a 7th Gen Honda Accord (2002-2008) with a K20Z2 engine, which is similar to the K20A6 but lacks VTEC on the exhaust side. I’m exploring two upgrade options:
In terms of the ECU, should I remap or flash the one I currently have, or would it be better to replace it with an aftermarket ECU?
Additionally, I’d appreciate your thoughts on which upgrade option would be better overall and whether there are any significant differences or challenges when swapping the K20Z2 head with the K20A2 head.
I might be able to get a hold of a stockpile of oem k series valve covers and would be able to clean them, prime them, and even paint them. I was wondering what a good price would be to charge for a k series valve cover?
I just bought a block, crank, head and some other pieces off marketplace and I want to identify first before buying anything.
The head has a stamp saying PPA-3.
It has another stamp saying AYZ6110636. (The Z could potentially be a 2)
Any info helps. Thanks
Has anyone successfully got dbw and hondata to interact or do i really need to go haltech for it?
1993 k24a2 eg swap I have engine and ecu from 02-04 6 speed Acura type s was wondering what else I can use for the swap don’t wanna buy everything new it adds up
People using a Wiring Specialties harness, what o2 sensor are you using? I tried the Denso 234-9040 (Accord fitment, i think) and it has the same female plug as what's on the harness.
Picture is of the harness connector
I have a k24a4block with a2 heads in my eg what harness and ecu do I need for it ?
Found these minor cracks in the block, not sure if they are just cracks or like, the block is breaking cracks? 219,xxx mile k20 planned to rebuild
