Fire Toolbox is used to modify FireOS but is not a full ROM and does not root a Fire device. All Toobox mods disappear after a factory reset. IMPORTANT: For FireOS 7.3.2.2 or above, Fire Toolbox is not currently able to change some things as it could in older firmware versions. Amazon has patched FireOS with a recent update that breaks changing or disabling certain features. Toolbox devs are working on this.
Sideloading most APKs, including the Google Play Store itself, does not require rooting.

I have an old 5th generation fire tablet. It's getting pretty old and I really don't have much use for it as it is anymore. Is there a way I can root it or jailbreak it to get stock android or similar running on it? That way I can use it as a more generic media/app device.
Is this video accurate in saying that the ram can be increased without root access?
If not, is there anyway to make ram swap work? 2.9gb RAM is not ideal
i bought an old kindle fire 3 today for a tenner and found out later that there isn`t anything that i can do with it as is.
so here is my question: is there any way to still load anything onto it (music/ebooks/apps/), get a browser to work, jailbreak it in some way or get newer working software on it?
or did i simply just waste my money?
hi all. Recently my HD 10 has stopped connecting to my Bose QC30 BT headphones. I have had both for years and never had a problem. The tablet sees the headset but won't connect.I loaded the Bose app and it was able to correctly identify the model, but can't connect. The headphones work fine with my iPhone and a pure Android tablet which makes me suspicious of the FireOS. Currently it is at 7.3.3.1. Anybody else having an issue?
I was curious if anyone had any games that someone on iPhone and someone on kindle fire could play together.
Hi. I'm interested in the Kindle Fire, but I'm not sure why would I get it instead of any other tablet, and I thought I'd ask here about what differentiates it from other brands.
I have a normal kindle, so I won't be using it for reading, except manga on the Shonen Jump app which I'm hoping I can download. The other use for it would be just watching movies, shows and anime that I would usually watch on my phone when I have no access for my tv (or too lazy to get out of bed). I fly often, and take long train rides, so that's when I'll mostly use it. Do you think it would be a good purchase for me?
Thanks!
Edit: Thanks for all the replies! I've read all of them so far, and it looks like for how I intend to use it the HD 10 is gonna be quite a nice fit for me. I appreciate everyone for their help!
So did they modify the native Amazon App to where it takes you to a SILK version of the website or is there something I need to do to resolve an issue?
I know there are lots of complaints about the Gallery app, but I haven't found any specifically mentioning the app crashing.
This problem I'm having is on a recently purchased Fire HD 10. The latest model currently out.
I have about 100 GB of photos on a 1 TB micro SD card and when I try to open the Gallery app it's largely unresponsive until I select "Albums".
When I go to an Album it will slowly load the thumbnails for a while, but when I either scroll too much or try to open a picture the app crashes.
Luckily the A+ Gallery doesn't have this issue, but I'm wondering if this particular issue is a known issue with the built in Gallery app and if there is any plans to fix it.
Judging from the complaints I've seen about that app in general, I'm guessing it won't be fixed anytime soon.
I installed Google play and can't get cash app to open. Tried sideloading and can't get it to work. Anyone been able to use it? TY
Looking for a clamshell style keyboard for my 9th gen Kindle Fire HD 10 so that I can use it like a small laptop. Not seeing anything like this on Amazon except for one that only fits newer gens and has been discontinued. Thanks in advance for your help!
I spent days trying every possible method to add YouTube Kids to a child profile on my Fire Tablet. I went through countless Reddit threads, YouTube videos, and trial-and-error experiments—most of which didn’t work. 😩
Finally, I found a method that actually works, and I want to share it to save others from the same frustration. It takes some effort, but it’s 100% working and doesn’t require complicated file copying.
The app won’t appear directly on the home screen, but you can access it from the App Launcher inside the child profile.
If you want the full step-by-step guide, here’s the video tutorial I followed: https://youtu.be/oXyAQl-qN3Q
I'm using the Fire HD 8 as a wall panel for Home Assistant, and it's charging wirelessly. Everything works great, except for one annoying thing: whenever the battery is fully charged, this 100% charging animation pops up and takes over the screen.
It's super frustrating because it interrupts the Home Assistant dashboard. I've tried searching through the settings but couldn't find a way to disable it.
Does anyone know of a way to turn this animation off? Maybe through ADB, a system tweak, or some other workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
I have a PhD in computer science and I've been fucking with this tablet for an hour. How the fuck do you change the pin?
I cannot get my kids profile to load. It either spins forever or I get an error that says "oops something went wrong. We are unable to load this profile. Please check your network connection and try again"
It's not my network. And even if my wifi wasn't working I should still be able to get into the kids profile. I've done a factory reset about 6 times and deleted and re-added the child profile about that many too. Customer support also cancelled my kids+ subscription hoping that would help. I was then sent a new tablet and have the same issues. Have also done about 4 factory resets on it as well as removing and readding the child profile. Nothing. The device says it is fully updated. They are now sending me a third tablet but I don't think it will help. Any suggestions as to what's going on?
I have a Kindle Fire 10 and I am attempting to run APK files. I have allowed the installation of apps from unknown sources.
I click on the download file, and am then "staging the app", am asked if I "want to install an update to this application." I click install and then a exclamation mark and "app not installed" appears.
Is there a way to resolve this? I am just trying with APK files not Google Play.
Hi everyone, my daughter has an Amazon Fire tablet 10 and is only allowed to use the kids profile. The problem is that she keeps downloading games and she’s running out of storage. I’m only used to Apple products so how would it work to get her more storage? Would I just buy an SD card? How large of a card should I buy for this type of product?
I looked online, and contacted Amazon CS (they're no help) and it seems like my daughters profile has been removed from her Amazon Fire Kids tablet. When I logged in to my Amazon profile, it showed there was no Child profile. Someone else reported this issue on Amazon site: https://uk.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00006zSnbLSAS/child-profile-disappeared
When we first got my kids tablets for Christmas I went through and spent hours blocking specific videos we don't allow them to watch. The blocking content is super inefficient in the first place but I thought I got rid of everything I didn't want them watching, until I was looking through their tablets and noticed there are videos showing up for them to watch that I CANNOT find on the kids+ app I use to manage their content. For example, "Blippi Visits the Waterpark" is available on their tablets, but when I go to manage their content and search for it, it does NOT show up in the list of content available. I've tried searching a million different ways ("blippi," "waterpark," etc). And it's not just one or two videos, it's quite a few of them. I'm not sure what else to try and it's very frustrating. How can you market a tablet as a KIDS tablet with parental controls but then have content that can't be blocked?? Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?

My daughter misplaced her Fire 10. 100% it is in our house, also shows on my router as connected to our WiFi. Looked everywhere can’t find it. Manage devices refreshes and shows connection, battery and storage. It shows similar for a Fire 8 we have, and Offline for another Fire 8 that is powered off.
For the Fire 8 that is online I can trigger the remote alarm and it works, though locate says it cannot find it even though all location services are on.
For the Fire 10, restart works, comes back ‘Success’, find gives the same cannot locate as the 8.
But the alarm also errors with ‘Amazon could not connect to (device name). Your device may be disconnected from the network, turned off, or out of power.’ Tried numerous times. Why would it not be working?
Has anyone successfully added YouTube Kids to a child profile on a Fire Tablet? I sideloaded the app using the Play Store, but it doesn’t appear as an option to assign it to a child profile.
Currently, my child uses my main profile to access YouTube Kids, but I’d like to set up a dedicated, locked-down profile for them. This is especially important because we got a new tablet for them recently and want to configure it properly from the start.
Would appreciate any advice or creative solutions from the community!
Thanks in advance 😊

I have a kindle and I want to download an app on it, however it says i need 1 click payment with a credit or debit card, I don’t have one of those, my question is if I put an Amazon gift card balance on there would that make the pop up go away. Sorry for poor english
Hello, I was following a youtube tutorial from 11 years ago under the channel name "android cowboy" to try to root my kindle but the provided files no longer exist. If anyone knows of where to get auto root files nowadays it would be greatly appreciated
I have Facebook and Messenger sideloaded on my Kindle Fire 10 HD+ (11th generation with latest updates). I get notified when there are software updates for both apps. Facebook OR Messenger will update successfully but if I try to update both the second one to update fails with an "Update Failed" message. Retrys fail for the failed app. If I try updating the next day or two the failed app still fails to update. However if I forget about it and go back a week or so later the failed update always successfully installs.
What's causing this? I've tried rebooting between updates and that doesn't work.
I have a 5th gen (2015) Fire tablet 7. I recently reset it to factory specs, debloated it a bit, and installed Google Playstore. It's running Fire OS 5.3.6.4, which is the latest OS for it, but it doesn't allow me to install newer apps. Some, are even hidden on the PlayStore, which I'm guessing is due to incompatibility. Is it possible to manually install a newer OS to be able to run newer apps?
I know how to pin on an adult profile, but I don't see the arrow down when I'm in my toddler's profile. I'm trying to lock into his AAC app, and he's absurdly smart--I'd rather pin and lock on the toddler profile, so that if does figure out how to unlock the pin, he's still in the kid's account, not mine.
Does anyone have an Amazon Kids tablet? We're currently looking for this version of the game to review, so would love to get some gameplay: https://youtu.be/RG69-rDwegM?si=_0lBPgQTMsPf9d41
I recently bought both a Samsung A9+ for myself and a Fire Max 11 for my mom, and found a really nice "origami" case for the Samsung that allows it to be positioned free-standing in both portrait and landscape mode, and for the latter at a more upright angle for viewing and a more relaxed angle for typing:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPG12NCP
It's a really nice, well-made, light and solid case, with the added bonus of being sufficiently magnetized to keep the front cover securely connected to the rear cover when folded over for holding in your hand, and, if you find the need, securely attaching it to an iron-based metal surface such as a fridge or filing cabinet.
However this company doesn't make a version for the Fire Max 11 yet. Another one does, but it doesn't seem as nice, and is also $10 more expensive:
https://www.amazon.com/NET-CASE-Vertical-Standing-Feature-Generation/dp/B09Z2F2YJM
Does anyone know of another case that also works this way and has the same magnetic features, and is also well-made? I'll probably get her the other case, but am just trying to see if there are other options before ordering.
I recently got a new Fire Max 11, and after asking here how well it works for my needs with Google Play sideloaded via Fire Toolbox, I was persuaded to instead get a "real" Android tablet, and bought a Samsung A9+ 8/128, which I've been very happy with.
However, my mom also needed a new tablet to replace her aging 2019 HD 8, and since her tablet needs are more basic than mine, I decided to keep the Max 11 and give it to her, and install Google Play on it via the Fire Toolbox so that she can use her favorite apps that aren't available in the Amazon app store, like Whatsapp and some foreign news sites.
What I'm wondering is, how important is it to install Google Play as soon as possible with a new Fire tablet, before it's had a chance to update to the latest FireOS, and then try your best to never let it update afterwards. Or is it ok to just let it run through its initial installation and updates, and only then install Google Play?
In the past I've done the former, but decide to try the latter this time, and so far everything works fine with no issues. But I'm wondering if this will lead to problems down the line, forcing me to do a factory reset and reinstall everything all over again.
I understand that the main thing to watch out for either way is to not let Google Play install or update apps that are also available on the Amazon App Store, and always use the latter when available. E.g. the Amazon app, Netflix, CNN, etc., right?
