I’ll start by saying I’m going to listen to and audio book of his if that affects your choice of title. I noticed in audible he has a lot of 3 star ratings, and many people don’t seem to be very impressed by his work. I say that to ask is it because too many people are comparing him to his father while they read his books? I want to give him a fair chance, and am curious where’d you all would start. I’m thinking NOS4A2, Heart Shaped Box, or Horns.
I am currently enjoying Heart Shaped Box and there’s a scene in which Jude listens to his voice mail and >! his dead band member called from beyond the grave where this sound could be heard.!<
Mother is also >!the cosmic horror god that rules the afterlife at the end of Stephen’s King book, Revival!< and I though it was a nice touch for Joe Hill to reference one of his father’s novels.
Have you read Revival? Do you like Joe Hill’s references to Stephen King’s works?
It's available to purchase as an ebook for Amazon. It's a decent short story with some interesting concepts.
I'm about 200 pages in and got another 500 to go and it started off good but now it's ground to a halt
He has a panel at the Haverhill library yesterday. Some things of note:
He's done with comics for now and is focusing on novels (he would like to write a novel a year) as well as screenplays.
He saw a rough cut of the new film of 'Abraham's Boys', liked it a lot and said it should release next year.
He talked a bit about his upcoming novel 'King Sorrow', said it's structured like five smaller novels that form one larger story.
Had some other interesting topics of discussion... he said Charlie Manx in NOS4A2 was partially based off himself after his divorce; he tried too hard to make his kids happy 24/7 but realized that it wasn't healthy and that it was normal for them to be sad, etc.

A new short story by Joe Hill, "Ushers," will be available through Kindle Unlimited on November 1st... but you can get it right now if you're Amazon Prime member, through Amazon's First Reads program.
So I'm on the very last story in full throttle, and I've realised they're not naming the narrator before they begin, like I know stephen Lang did the do with King. And George Guidall I can pinpoint any day of the week who couldn't? But I missed the Joe hill? Who narrates what? Anyone know?
I'm reading Full Throttle and all the stories are great but specifically Faun and All I Care About Is You are so phenomenal that I really wish they could be expounded upon and turned into full novels or even series'. Faun is very much like Fairy Tale by SK and could very easily fill a 500+ page novel. Joe even hints at a very specific lore in the story that I'd love to dive deeper into. All I Care About Is You would also be an amazing full length novel or series. It's steampunk-ish futuristic setting is also somewhere I'd love to spend more time in. Joe, if you ever lurk here and happen to read this, man, seriously consider writing more in these worlds! What did you all think of these 2 stories or Full Throttle in general?
Okay, so I got back into reading earlier this year after a decade-plus long hiatus. I’ve been catching up on a lot of King as he’s always been my favorite author. Revival is one I finished a couple of weeks ago. Wanting to make a conscious effort to not just read King I’ve read some other things as well (David Chang’s memoir, some RA Salvatore [guilty pleasure], etc.) and just finished Joe Hill’s Heart Shaped Box. Firstly, excellent book and highly recommend it if you’re on the fence. The first hundred pages creeped me out more than anything Papa King has ever written.
Anyway, Revival of course has that very memorable final act that involves “Mother”. In Heart Shaped Box Jude receives a call from a deceased bandmate that seems to be in Hell and references a “Mother” as well. So all this is to ask if anyone noticed that and if they thought King was intentional with it.
I recently finished Heart Shaped Box. Loved it! Beginning NOS4A2. Dang! Joe Hill is awesome.

I just finished reading Horns (so freaking good btw) and decided to look for the movie and I found it on Tubi. Curious to see how faithful an adaptation it is. Also, I vaguely recall when a movie with Daniel Radcliffe having horns came out, but at the time I had no idea it was from Joe Hill.
In Horns, I like the reference to the “bookshelf full of Dean Koontz novels”
Reminds me of Bobbi Anderson in The Tommyknock reading The Watchers by Dean Koontz 😆
I also vaguely remember another Koontz book mentioned in another King novel, maybe Needful Things?
