Currently visiting İstanbul for a few days and would like to walk around/tour the South campus (near Rumeli fort) of BU - interested in going there for school in the future.
It seems to me like there are checkpoints around the campus where one must scan their BU ID to get in, but I of course don't go to BU so don't have an ID.
Is it still possible to see the campus? I can't find any information on visitor tours online.
Hi! I'm going to be in Istanbul for the summer and would love to join an ongoing or new D&D game (or other TTRPG). I am a very easy-going, laid back college student, and I know the basics of how to play (been in a couple campaigns). English or Turkish games are fine by me. Please reach out and let's get in touch!
I am staying in the Topkapı area.
What is the best sit down donner place?
I’m very picky when it comes to choosing barber, there are few barbers that really listen and do exactly how you want based on the photo you show and there are other who just look at the photo and do their own style instead of how I wanted.
How’s in Istanbul? Any tips on barber’s shop that are best do taper fade haircut ?
Hey yall, I would love to check out the UFO museum but google doesn’t say anything about the new adress or if it’s still open.
If any of you know about any other UFO-centric museums or organizations please let me know, it’s so hard to investigate without speaking Turkish but tesserkular in advance 😁
Im struggling with elevations of some places that I run in. If any one can recommend flat places for running preferably quiet and uncrowded other than Kadıköy Sahili where it is crowded most of the time. Thank you in advance.
Enjoying your lovely city. It's beautiful country and city. Wondering if Dolmabahçe would be open on Wednesday as its labor day?
Hi, lovely people! Im planning my trip to Istanbul, and would like to grab my collection of vinyl with me to play and share. Are there some vinyl bars or cafe, where i can apply as a DJ? Or some kind of Open Decks in Kadikoy neighborhood? Not techno/House, mostly funk/disco/soul music
I’m looking for a good tennis club that provides groups and private lessons for amateurs, I’ve been struggling to find one.
Merhaba komşu. Tomorrow i will be visiting Hagia Sophia. I'll pray there as an Orthodox and i usually wear a visible cross necklace. Would that be dangerous? Should i take it off?
I’m starting medicine this year and i have a lot of questions, I’m not sure if this subreddit is still active but ill ask anyway
there is a lot of private universities in istanbul for international english medicine, and I am aware that this is probably one of the best programs, but I am faced with asking myself if it is worth the 40k, for example istyne is 25k, is the difference between medipol and the other university that big to the point were I could sacrifice some of my lifestyle for a better education.
Through my own research, I realized that the Asian part is not as active and suitable as the European, i don’t want to live in the universities dorms, do students live in Asia or Europe? and why
Are the buses clean, is it reliable? What app should I use? is Google Maps OK?
How diverse is the university in general? Are people mostly conservative or liberal? Is there a lot of international students? do the students feel united or is there a lot of subcultures
also why tf are yall not banning Starbucks?
also is there like a secret discord server? someone needs to make one
I’ve had the most wonderful time in Istanbul so far and have found the people to be incredibly kind. I really can’t recount a single instance of sexual harassment from men since I’ve been here. I feel very safe.
However, two times now older women have muttered at me, seemingly upset at my presence. One time I swear the woman was saying Telefon and I was wondering if she thought it was bad that I was on the phone (I was sat at a cafe tucked away on a side street), but then tonight another woman started muttering at me and even the man selling chestnuts gave me a look like what the fuck.
I’ve been wearing high collared shirts, a blazer, and loose fitting jeans. I don’t have any facial piercings or an unnatural hair color. Both times I’ve had no contact with them previous to them muttering at me.
I’m just wondering if anybody has a clue as to what I could be doing to upset them.
What is the architecture style called of places like Nisantasi, and the bank street in Beyoglu? (european kind of looking)
Hi
I'm visiting Istanbul in the last week of May and wanted a couple of inputs on the following -
Is there a light and sound show at the Basilica Cistern? A friend mentioned that it's a regular happening but I cant seem to find any mention of it online!
Thoughts on quick stops at the Istanbul Railway Museum and Ottoman Bank Museum?
Does the Pera Palace allow public access (for example, to the Ataturk Room) and do they offer any tours of the hotel? I've found one dated tour of Pera Paralce but the price is really steep and it's not organised by the hotel itself. I've also considered the afternoon tea but the google reviews are not promising. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for your help / inputs in advance!
Hi there, I’m due to visit Istanbul in the summer and will be with my partner and two toddlers. We visited Istanbul back in 2019 before as a couple and at the time, we couldn’t find any food that was soup, or “runny” based? Most of the food was kebabs but it could have been possible we were going to the wrong places. Does anyone know of any restaurants that serve food that is not so dry? I’m interested in more local restaurants near the sultan Ahmet district or anywhere nearby, that is alcohol free and is suitable for children too.
Also, if anyone could recommend any beaches or fun acitivites/places for us to do with children, thank you in advance. :)
Im staying near Taksim square for the next couple days and would love to play some outdoor basketball with any locals. Can anyone recommend a nearby court or group that plays? Thanks!
Have an operation on Wednesday (dental surgery) at Liv Hospital.
I have a mild blood disorder which I’m abit nervous about in communicating with them.
Just wondering if anyone has been a patient there, how was the experience? I know it’s very modern etc and I’m confident in my surgeon, just slightly nervous.
Thanks!
Hi, I am looking for specific items in Istanbul. I've seen them in some stores but I can't help but feel some of the stores arent trustworthy:
1.1 I'm looking for 100% leather shoes and jackets. 1.2 Im looking for powdered oud. 1.3 I'm looking for reputable flavored tea brands.
I was wondering if anybody can refer me to tried and trusted brands or stores with good reputation for the above.
I did my own research but when going into Derimod I saw no men's genuine leather tags. Btw are these tags even trusted?
The T1 is not operational and we see no buses. Is the cistern basilica open today?
Thinking about shipping my car over. Is it safe in this area to have a car regarding theft/vandalization? I would like to do street parking but worried about chances of car being broken into/stolen?
Hi, I'm going to Istambul and want to ask how easy / difficult is buy beer. What the prices are and how difficult is find a grocery store with alcohol.
Thanks!
Hi,
is it possible to swim in Bosporus? Not crossing... just a bit along the coast?
teşekkür ederim
Merhaba, İstanbul'da özellikle Anadolu tarafında iyi, hem eğitim alıp hem de boş zamanlarda gidip pratik yapabileceğim bir bateri kursu tavsiye edebilecek var mıdır acaba?
