I just finished The Awry Ascent, and allthough the music is thrilling, the concept usually is a big pull factor for me. the story seems vague if not for the hungry lights wiki, and he uses a lot of weird big words that make little sense. does this change for the next 3?
How will he ever recover?
What new music are we getting first? When is the new tallah album coming out? When is dear rudiff 2 coming out????
I've noticed a trend and a motif that's in the Hungry Lights story. The motif being "the mask" and pretending.
When we take it in terms of the literal story there are a few examples:
When Prill dances with the woman in the tavern in "A Drunken Stalemate" and pretends he's this hot shot and the song even mentions the motif of the mask. I can dig up The Awry Ascent livestream where he mentions this
When Prill pretends to his daughter that he's fine but he really isn't. At least that's how I interpreted this stanza in the song "Contempt".
In spite of the seed I chose to grow When you smiled, I'd reconcile with all disdain my body showed And with pretentious, tired eyes... I would look into the sea, And long a crown that never fit
"In this chapter, Prill does not really understand how to read the map, and he will not let anybody else see it, so he gets them all lost. The crew further lose faith in him as a captain, and then he accidentally leads them into the lair of a hydra"
What's interesting is that in TG&M, he never pretends to be something that he's not. He's suicidal and him filling for Reflaugh was just the easy way out. But it's curious that he succeeds in his goals in this chapter. He slays the 3 gods.
As the announcer says at the end of "Second Best". "Oh, this young champion has proven his worth / not only to us but to himself!"
Is Justin telling us that in order to succeed in life is to be honest about who you are?
I’ve been a huge fan of Hungry Lights and all of Justin’s other bands/solo projects for years now and I’ve been looking for new music with a similar high fantasy, artsy and heavy vibe. Do y’all know of any artists of a similar energy? Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated :)
he so do u guys remember when justin said he was gonna do an acoustic version of taa? did he ever make any of those or release any in some way? id really like to hear them.
Dear Rudiff is one of my favorite albums of all time, regardless of gore and shock value. Lyrically and musically it's well put together and tells a captivating story. I can't seem to get other people to understand that or give it the time of day. As soon as they hear the last quarter of Trophy Case they lose all interest.
It's just a fucked up story, friends, respect it for what it is.
Like, yeah, I don't really care to imagine all of the shit Rudiff and Prilly were doing either, it's not a pretty sight. But that's not why I like the album and I wish people could see that.
Hey guys, so after years I decided to go through the details of every lyrics of all albums. I love Justin's metaphors and truly think he is a genius. But to the point, I cannot remember the true meaning of “The Spear/being speared.” - from the 3rd album. Although I can definitely make my own way of interpreting the metaphor, I remember Justin once posted a full explanation of the it. Can somebody remember that? I would also love to see your points of view about this. And well, it would actually be great if we could maybe make a whole thread of analysing his lyrics and metaphors. Pardon my English and have a nice day Hungry Souls!
Title.
Think this is an interesting one to discuss, given that both are two of the most brutal and iconic releases Justin has to date.
For me, I think Gutter is more brutal and disgusting, but Silver Lining is scarier since Prilly sounds more enraged and actually acts on his violent impulses, whereas Gutter is disturbing and concerning, but he doesn't end up acting on his threats.
He has so many good ones, but my personal favorite lyric (not just of Justin's, but of all time) is
"No creature serves his maker, and no maker dies by his creature's hands"
I know he's been touring much of this year and going out again with Tallah, I was just wondering what platform he usually streams on and is it usually a members/sub only stream or public? I'm a relatively new fan, thanks!
I was doing a bit of research and APARRENTLY theres an even older version of Do you feel clean that pre-dates its appearence as "Justine" on Mt. Garbage. Does anyone have any info on this song? I'd love to hear it if anybody does! The song was also just called "Justine" as it was on Mt. Garbage, from what i can tell it was released as a single some time in 2015 or 2014.
Yoooo anyone got some recommendations for bands/artists that sound like Hungry Lights? The obvious ones for me would be disillusion and fair to midland, but im starting to get sick of back to the times of splendor as much as ive had it on repeat lately :p
Hey guys
I've been obsessed with The new Elevator, and I've been wondering if anyone has a copy of Back to the old way. I've tried looking for it all over the internet and found nothing lol.
I swear at some point Justin released a reimagining of The Awry Ascent that was like desert themed, it had mostly the same song names but a few different ones, the mix was more like Call It Ego’s current mix iirc but I think it came out sometime between HITC and TGAM.
I can’t tell if I just vividly dreamed it up years ago or if it really existed and it got yeeted with some of the other stuff that used to be on Hungry Shadows (the yt channel, not OF)
