President Harry S Truman bestows the Medal of Honor on Marcario García. On November 27, 1944, the man from Houston singlehandedly destroyed two German gun emplacements, capturing four prisoners. Wounded in the action he continued to fight until his unit's objective was taken.

Houston from the early 1970s - where can I see it today?

I'm working on a documentary that is set in Houston in the early 1970s. While we are in town to film interviews, we want to shoot some B-roll of locations that look as they did in the early 1970s. It could be anything...homes...buildings...parks...signage etc. Don't worry about "new" stuff that might be around like cars and such. Thank you for any suggestions!

Young men dress as crawfish and escorted by women during the No-tsu-oh Festival in Houston, 1913. At the time this was the largest festival in Houston, highlighted by a football game between the University of Texas and the Mechanical College of Texas (Texas A&M).

Al Pliner's 88 Keys - Piano bar in Houston in the 50s or 60s

Hi! My grandparents lived in Houston back in the 50s and 60s and my grandfather talked about going to Al Pliner's 88 Keys. I've done a few google searches and haven't found anything about it, but I did find an obituary for Al Pliner's wife, https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/houstonchronicle/name/jeannette-pliner-obituary?id=7340918, so at least I know Al Pliner was a real person and was a pianist...would make sense if he had a piano bar.

Would love to know if anyone knows anything about this bar or has photos here from the past! Both of my grandparents have passed now, and it is really cool getting to drive through Houston and see some of the places where they used to hangout.
