Hey y'all, I'm very close to buying a new construction in the Hendersonville/Edneyville area (the neighborhood of new constructions near the Edneyville library off Chimney Rock Rd), but after looking at ISPs in the area, it looks like its limited to Optimum/Morris Broadband. I have read only abysmally negative reviews for Optimum with only a few people here and there saying they've never had issues with connections, speeds, general reliability, etc.
For some background, my partner & I both work from home and often host/attend Zoom meetings simultaneously, stream TV and music, game occasionally, and will likely install a Ring security system. We're currently using AT&T Fiber in Buncombe county (~600 Mbps up & down) and have had little issues with what I've listed here.
The house we're interested in buying is 100% perfect for us and we're trying to get out of Buncombe county, but if the internet situation is bad, then we probably won't move forward with the purchase and look elsewhere in the Henderson county area.
Oddly enough, I checked the FCC broadband map, and the houses leading up to the new construction subdivision on the same road are serviced by Vyve Broadband (fiber: 1000 down/50 up), so it may be possible that these new constructions can be serviced by Vyve as well.
For folks in similar situations (or near similar), how has Optimum/Morris Broadband been for y'all? Would their service actually be able to cover what we need? What other reliable options could we have?
I'll trade you a beer for your input!
I made a post on here a couple of days ago asking about how people felt about Optimum because I had an install appointment. Well turns out the house is unserviceable and the only other option we have is AT&T DSL. My husband and I both play video games online and sometimes stream videos simultaneously. Does anyone have experience with Starlink in the area?
Update: I got one and it’s fantastic. Right now it’s just laid back on the stand it comes with on our driveway and my first speed test was 220 mbps. We’re renting so I’m not sure the best way to permanently mount it. It’s confusing to me that the people who bought the house last year didn’t find out if the house could get Wi-Fi (it was built in the 50s) but also feel like I should have asked more questions before we signed the lease. Thank you for everyone’s input!
Hendersonville is so beautiful in the fall! Does anyone have their favorite fall recommendations? Or favorite eats this time of year? 🎃
Hi everyone! A while back I posted about my quest to find the most glorious song of my childhood, the GE Hendersonville theme song. You can see my original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hendersonville/s/RgmBoEDlAV
A woman who works in records at the police station and used to be in HR at GE thinks she’s got it on an old VHS tape! I’m in Atlanta, so it’s a hike for me to drive to Hendersonville, drive back, convert the tape, and then do the trip again to return said tape. Is there any VHS digitization company in Hendersonville who would be willing to pick up the tape, convert it to digital, send me the files, and return the tape to the police station?
I’m willing to pay for the work of picking up and returning the tape! I contacted a company I found via Google, but it looks like they’re closed for the foreseeable future.
Anyone hear that weird noise like 10 min ago? I’m closer to Tuxedo/Saluda area.
I went by Daddy D's today, and it was closed at lunchtime. There was a "For Rent" sign out back. Did this fine establishment close on us?
We moved into our house about 3 weeks ago and still don’t have internet because of the AT&T comm tech strike. My property manager told me to contact Optimum so they’re coming out tomorrow to set it up for us (we don’t have an Ethernet port). I did that without doing any research and now I’m worried I made a mistake based on some reviews I found. Some say AT&T coverage is about the same? If I get Optimum installed can I change providers if it’s not working for us?
Hubby and I are considering visiting Hendersonville and Asheville between Christmas and New Years. We prefer Hendo and want to stay there but will only go to Asheville for Biltmore House. We’re concerned, however, that some places may be closed during that time (retail, restaurants, etc.). Our absolute favs that we frequent every time are Arabella and Mezzaluna. Since we typically visit during the summer months, we’re unaware of what businesses may be seasonal and what are year round. Any input is appreciated!
Their service sucks and they’re ALWAYS having outages. One happened today at 3am, they said it would be fixed by 8am. Now they’re saying by 6:30. Smh Duke Enerfy can go to hell
Just dropping in to see if anyone is on! ☺️😂
Heyas!
Looks like I might be in town this weekend, and I was wondering if there's any places doing non-private room karaoke on Saturday night.
Google search isn't being helpful for me -- finding lots of places, but they're either not doing karaoke on weekend nights or the places are not actually anywhere near Hendersonville.
Recommendations for other fun things also appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hello long-time Jaguars season ticket holder recently located to HVL. I know there is a scattering of fans around, wondering if there is a sports bar/watering hole where you gather to watch games? Would like to find folks with whom to commiserate/cheer (hopefully more of the latter)!
Has anyone else seen the petting zoo set up next to The Main Event at Apple Festival this year? I don’t remember it from years’ past and it seems… I don’t know… awful? There is a zebra that just seems sad, it’s super hot, the pens are really small… and I just don’t understand the appeal.
With things like Carl Sandberg in the same town, for free, and where the animals are obviously well-cared for, I don’t know why the Apple Festival would approve this as a vendor.
Does anyone know if there are any groomers that take cats in the are?
Does anyone know what’s going on with the krispy kreme? I know it’s closed but it’s looks like they painted it like a darker grey color and there’s been people moving stuff in and out I guess. I’m dying to know what’s gonna end up there. Same thing with the ocharleys I think they need to put a Texas Roadhouse there. The one in Asheville has kinda outgrown its parking.
There is a gem show happening at the Whitmire Building during the Apple Festival. If you go down past Hot Dog World and turn right on Lily Pond Rd in the curve, the building is on the right. I dropped by today to see how things were looking and the displays are just incredible! Admission is only $5 and I think it goes to support the local gem club. Anyway, here's a link for more information:
Do ya'll still do that? I haven't been in probably seven or eight years, but I'd like to.
Looking for some recs on removing a dead deer stuck in a fence. We have a dead deer that died because they got caught in said fence and now trying to find someone who can butcher or remove it
Thanks
Hey i'm looking for anyone willing to print a helmet prop for me in the hvl area i'd really appreciate it!
Hey there!
I was wondering if anyone has a favorite or go-to spot for used furniture in the area? My husband and I are looking for a tall and thin dresser for our baby girl's clothes to go in.
