Rule 1:

No spam

Rule 2:

Don't be a dick to any hair transplant patient, even those not on our subreddit. There is much more leeway to public figures, influencers, and people in positions of authority, but this doesn't mean you can random insults, what you say must be grounded in a specific critique. But you can insult the moderator WallabyUpstairs, who believes in total leeway for any criticism against him, as he feels that there should be high leeway to criticize people in authority. This exception does not apply to any other moderator.

Rule 3:

Any financial conflicts of interests must be disclosed if they're related to any advice given, including multiple degrees of separation. Our subscribers absolutely have a right to know of all biases for any advice given, and anyone caught circumventing this may receive a permanent ban. Financial conflicts of interest must be disclosed in the 1st or 2nd sentence.

Rule 4:

No direct commissions. We allow representatives of a business or clinic granted that they follow rule 2. But receiving a direct commission incentivizes the worst type of behavior and advice.

Rule 5:

If you're going to name a clinic in a update or review title, you must name the specific surgeon that worked on you. If there was no doctor involvement, you must name the head technician. Updates without anything being named is ok. If a clinic refuses to list the doctor on their website, then the clinic can not be named in the title.

Rule 6:

If you work in the hair transplant industry, you need a flair to indicate that. Reach out out to the moderators to get your flair established.

Rule 7:

Do no speculate on anyone's mental health. Not even a person in authority or influencer. No loopholes, don't even give an implication or 'sentiment'. Yes we have high leeway for people in positions of authority but not for this. But this does not apply for the moderator WallabyUpstairs, who believes in total leeway for criticizing him.

Rule 8:

Absolutely no 'thirst' comments against female members of the hair transplant industry. Don't even try. Don't try any plausible deniability or faux ignorance. No, your way of doing it is not 'classy', 'charming', or 'high minded'. You're not different. Exercise some impulse control. Sexualizing female members of the hair transplant industry on other forums will also results in punishments. Just don't do it.

Rule 9:

If you are a clinic, supplement, pharma company, or any other type of marketer, do give unsolicited messages to our users. If you receive an unsolicited message, we would appreciated an alert, and you can also report them to the admins by clicking on the 'report' button at the button of their message, or by pressing the flag in the chat.

Rule 10:

Generally no results and other posts by clinics/surgeons. Though we don't have anything against surgeons posting their results in theory, our front page is already crowded from patient postings, so we generally don't allow postings by clinics. Though there may be instances where its good for our community, such as important info. But self advertising type posts are definitely not allowed. I'm trying to develop a subreddit where clinics can make posts freely including their results here https://old.reddit.com/r/HairTransplantDoctors/ Although its not officially launched, they can start posting results or any other posts there. Doctor ARE free to comment here, please dm the mods to obtain an industry flair.

/r/HairTransplants Moderator Code of Conduct

Code 1

There is total leeway to criticize moderator WallabyUpstairs1496 . People should be given high leeway to criticize people in authority position. I, the person who is writing this, WallabyUpstairs1496, can set boundaries for myself, but not other moderators. Please treat all other moderators with the same respect you would give anyone else. But for critiquing moderator WallabyUpstairs1496, you have total leeway. As for other authority/influencer/moderators off this subreddit, you have very high leeway, but not total leeway. Don't speculate unflattering things about their private life or mental health or anything like that.

Code 2

No financial favorers or gifts. This is not only a subreddit rule, it's a reddit-wide rule https://www.reddit.com/r/HairTransplants/comments/14rtbuq/full_disclosure_a_clinic_reached_out_to_me_asking/

Code 3

Anyone we criticize has a right to give a statement for whatever criticism we give. If we can fit it in within the character limit, we'll edit it into the post where we criticized such entity.

Here is an example where Spencer Stevenson "Spex" was banned from this subreddit for purposefully being deceptive about disclosing financial conflicts of interest, and then feigning faux-ignorance about it. He has led many people to a path of not the best hair transplant experience since he has people on his list that are not in good standing with the veteran class of the hair transplant community. Many people with 0 number of full journey independent reviews, and even a hairmill operator. But despite that, we included a statement from him after he was banned.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HairTransplants/comments/12674rs/update_on_the_spex_hes_been_banned_for_all_of/jealbyq/

Here is another example where Melvin Lopez and Patrick Hennessey kept recommending one of the most horrific surgeons known to the community, Dr Diep, while taking a monthly fee from him, despite them full knowing the full extent of his horrific practices and horrific results in patients, even going so far as to lock and remove meta threads discussing Dr Diep.

10 months in & shedding again?

I'm 10 months into my hair transplant. Around months 6-8ish I was feeling really happy with the density of my transplanted hair. Recently I started noticing "thinning" of that area, looks less dense to the naked eye.. I took a close up picture & I noticed small hairs, I wouldn't say baby hairs bc some are thick but just small.

Any advice or comments on what could be happening?

Any thoughts on Dr. Kulakarn?

Hello All,

I am consulting with Dr. Kulakarn in Thailand. I see some posts by the Dr in hair restoration network but not here from reddit users. Price per graft is USD 2.2, which isn't cheap. I would really love to hear from folks here about her work. It will really help me make a decision. Thanks.

Woman looking for HT advice

In Massachusetts- looking to start research on women’s hair transplant

Please help. I don’t want to have to rely on topical products every day. If I don’t use them my hair will come out in clumps and it’s thick strands now. It’s getting worse. Age 37.

How important is it to sleep at 45 degrees angle after HT ?

I have had a surgery on Tuesday and it’s really hard to sleep with such angle. If I find another position in which the recipient area isn’t touched is it good ?

Like is the only point of this position to avoid contact between pillow and grafts ?

Beard to Scalp Transplant Experience

I am considering a hair transplant to cover part of my front scalp and mid crown area. An Istanbul based clinic proposed to harvest some graft from my beard in addition to the back of my scalp. My beard hair is generally stronger than my scalp hair, but they seem to believe that it will blend it well.

My questions are for men who had beard to scalp transplant done.

  1. How was the anesthetic injection in your chin/neck area? My least favorite part of my first HT was the anesthetic injections which were not pleasant at all, and now I am wondering how it feels to have several needle injections around your chin, in addition to your scalp.

  2. Did your donor area beard hair regrow at all? Or did you end up with sparse beard?

  3. How are your results? Both in terms of growth and natural look. I understand this depends on several factors (such as how good the procedure went, after care, etc.) so I am just trying to learn more about what to expect, generally speaking.

microneedling without minoxidil

Hey everyone,

I’m curious about the effectiveness of microneedling for hair growth without the use of topical minoxidil. I have cats, so I’m unable to use minoxidil, and I’m also hesitant to try oral minoxidil due to potential side effects.

Have any of you tried microneedling without minoxidil and seen good results?

Additionally, if I do decide to try microneedling, how long after a hair transplant can I start treating the transplanted area?

Should scabs be removed on day 10 post HT

My clinic told me to wait until day 14, but after reading online it seems that most people remove their scabs on day 10. Which is better?

How do you find and choose providers?

For those of you who have gone through or are currently planning a hair transplant: what’s your process for finding and choosing a provider and location? Are you happy with the current options and info available, or do you find certain things frustrating or lacking?

Part of my question is HOW to find the best possible doctors. What online platforms, searches, etc. do people use?

For example, google search? What are the most effective types of searches? And how do you best filter the results? A lot of the results likely appear due to bigger doctor businesses having bigger ads budgets, but aren't necessarily trusted and higher quality. Doctor/ clinic websites show great reviews/ results, but how can one actually trust that?

What sources do people use? Google search? Google reviews? Try to find the reviewers & reach out to them? Perform various Reddit searches? What are the best ways to eventually validate that you're making a good decision even after going through consults, where doctors will all likely reassure you and promise you a lot?

Would love to hear about any pain points, thoughts on what would make the process easier or better, insights, tips, etc. This would be highly appreciated, and really helpful for anyone (like myself) trying to navigate this journey.

Dr.Nader - Head covering for Flying day after HT

I have a flight the next day after my transplant with Dr. Nader. Does anyone who did their HT by Dr. Nader know if they provide some bandages for the flight ? or do I need to get my hat or bandanas ? If yes, which one’s you recommend to wear next day after HT.

I’m really anxious about flying without something covering my donor and implant area.

Can you help a brother out?🙏

Hi guys, I’m a fellow dreamer looking to recover some beloved hair!

I’ve been browsing this sub for a while, checking surgeon names, reviews and so on.

EDIT: I’ve added pics on my profile in case they help, I’d need lots of work on the sides as well and I’ve read not all surgeons are good at that).

For now I talked to Pittella (quoted me 5500 grafts at 5$ each) and HLC (quoted me 3300 grafts at 2.7 € each).

I honestly would love the best work done on me from a top surgeon but also at the moment I cannot spend 27k (what Pittella basically quoted)…

I also would love to be able to book earlier than a year in advance..

Now, HLC price would be good for me but I heard you cannot pick the surgeon so it sounds like a bit of a bet, which doesn’t feel good.

My question for you is, is there any surgeon considered top or very good quality, either in South America, Europe or Asia that would cost me at most 10k or little more (meaning around 2.5€ per graft)?

I have reached out to Camacho as well, waiting for a reply.

Basically wondering if the combo between very good/top quality, booking within 6 months and price around 10k is even possible or realistic.

I’m open to all suggestions, thanks a lot!

5 weeks post HT

Hi all,

I am now going into my 2nd month post HT. I am basically in the hair shredding stage at this moment so a bit itchy but nothing crazy.

I have been using Johnson baby shampoo for washing and some light sensitive skin moisturiser when I get some dry skin.

I am from the UK and I am wondering if there is a need now for me to be using some sort of spray or meds to improve hair growth? Or do I just wait and leave it now. I did speak to the clinic and they said not to take anything but from what I have seen on here, everyone is taking some sort or oral med or spray med to improve growth?

How to "do" research?

A clinic would likely only put out their successes, not their failures, so how much can these be trusted? What does a truly natural hairline look like? Is past success at all indicative of future performance? Where do I start?

I've been looking through the mega list that the sub here has, and this is super helpful as a start, but I don't really know what to do with these names. I'm a big fan of spreadsheets, pro/con lists, etc, but I have no idea how to go about quantifying or even qualifying different surgeons for this. Any advice on how to do rigorous due diligence would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone who faints when getting their blood taken have a hair transplant? How was the experience?

34M just booked my HT at Absolute Hair Clinic for next July after years of research and feeling pretty excited. A little nervous though because I tend to get dizzy/light-headed and briefly pass out when getting my blood drawn (or even if I see a lot of my own blood). I believe this is technically known as "vasovagal syncope." Has anyone here who suffers from this kind of thing had a HT? How did it go? Based on most people's experiences it seems like the surgery isn't that bad overall and the numbing shots are the most painful part, but I'm not really concerned about the pain itself just my body kind of going into shock and freaking out.

I have an appointment with Laorwong on the 6th of November and tomorrow I'll fly for the first time alone. I need some help

Hello everyone!

Finally after so many months I have my scheduled appointment in 2,5 days: I think I have everything ready, among Grab, esim, button up shirt, a bandanna, an umbrella, a hotel near the clinic and Wise. I have some questions tho:

  1. I know that for the first days I have to live as a hermit in the hotel. Do you have any suggestion for the last days? Are there any interesting places I can safely visit on the 4th/5th day? And what about places to buy some souvenirs for my family?

  2. When I order via Grab can I bring the food in my hotel room? How does it work? I wait outside the hotel or do they come in front of the hotel room?

  3. Do I have to be careful with ATMs? In Italy some ATMs are straight up scams

I'm very anxious about the trip, I hope everything goes well
