Hey folks!
Just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with replacing their ignition?
I've watched some videos where you can drill into the barrel and pull out the ignition to swap it out, this seems totally do-able for me, however, a lot of people remove the steering wheel to get to the ignition. But some people get the plastic that covers the ignition off without taking the steering wheels.
Any tips on getting to that barrel and avoiding removing the steering wheel?
Thanks in advance!
Came out this morning to find passenger side indicator lights were all on. Not flashing, constant on. Car started fine but cut out, restarted with a little pumping and was idling fine. Thought I’d flick the indicators and hazards to see if it booted the lights up the arse and got them working but instead that caused ALL of them to become stuck constant on.
Figured I’d solve it later so started driving and thought I could smell electrical burning so pulled over to investigate under the bonnet and the engine stayed on with the key out. Not much I could do at the side of the road so I stuck the key back in and drove home (30 minute drive). All other electrics are working, and by all I mean the only other 3 electrical things on the car - Stereo, wipers, heater.
By the time I was home the indicators were working fine again, all other lights were working as normal, no warnings on the dash and the car stopped as usual on my drive and restarted again without fault. Everything looked good. Until I got out the car and shut the door.
With the car off and the door shut, my battery light is on, coolant light flashes a few times then stops and my oil light is flashing. Open the door and they go off. Start the engine and they go off.
I wonder, flick the interior light from auto to off and this stops the warning lights when I close the door.
The seats are somewhat damp after a night of heavy rain so I’m assuming water has got in somewhere, but I can’t narrow it down to where. That, with all these random electrical faults leads me to believe I’ve got a water related short somewhere but how on earth do I identify what exactly is the root cause without ripping off panels and lining?
Guys how do i remove the cassette
I found this: https://www.classiceuroparts.com/product/vw-golf-mk2-2-gti-16v-rabbit-jetta-g60-euro-headlight-grill-hella-volkswagen/
I’m new to buying parts. Is this site good/ reputable and will the part fit? I currently have a 2 light and would like a 4 light.
Thanks!
I’m new to buying parts but is this a good deal? Is this a good website?
Thanks in advanced!
Hello! New to the group. Anybody have any thoughts on this specific model?
Theres limited materials regarding this 40th Anniversary version that I can find on the internet and most of it is Japanese. Im so hooked to get this to look and run just the way i imagine it to. Cheers!
I have been trying to find a replacment for this part and google won't help or no one sells the part please help. It causes my window to get stuck and come up at a weird angle
Soo I've got a 91' 1.6D, and even after pressure testing I can't seem to find where the coolant is pissing out of. My friend thinks its coming out of where the water pump impeller goes into the block, but it looks like its coming out from farther up above. I replaced the pump (flanges, tstat, etc) months ago, and my coolant level has been good up until I was driving and my light came on. Once I got home I had none left in the tank. Would a blown headgasket leak this much? Or any other suggestions? Thx!!
Please excuse my overuse of this subreddit but I noticed the car kinda clunky. I’ve never driven a 37 year old car let alone manual. I assume this is normal and I need to get better at driving
Changed the belt but noticed this play in the water pump pulley. Water pump itself was replaced about 2 years ago. Would you recommend just changing the pulley or the whole pump unit with it as well?
Jump scare! I knew there were rust spots on the car and I fully intend to have it painted/ welded over. The guy who’s going to repaint it can do all the welding I just gotta save up for it. What’s a temporary cover/ protector for this (using duct tape now) while I save up the money to repaint/ repair?
Thanks in advanced!
It's not installed completely, so it's falling off a bit. I'll finish it and install properly.
First of all, I’d like to know how to get or make these over-fenders. Then, I’d like to know how to make wide wheels and which types are good for this purpose (in terms of radius and lip wheels).Any advices, pros and cons?
I have a mk2 golf cl+4 no PAS so all the belt has to pull is the alternator and water pump. I replaced the belt in July and now we have hit winter the belt is constantly slipping and squealing. It doesn’t matter how much I re tension it it just keeps squealing and my battery light shows. Help please
It’s getting air, fuel and spark, new diaphragms on the Weber carb, charged battery and still won’t start. Reddit wouldn’t allow me to post direct for some reason so had to make a red gifs account to post 😂 Seriously tho any help is appreciated
My plastic side trim and skirt are brutal- I could sand and repaint but wondering if new pieces are out there. Any good sites to check?
Thanks!
My temperature needle is going to 3/4 in traffic and engine rumbling so pretty sure it’s actually overheating. The temperature needle stays at 1/2 way while moving and fan seems to kick in after a minute when I park.
My guess is Actually bad temperature switch Bad thermostat Gunked up radiator
Anyone have a better idea what the issue actually could be?
I found the engine air filter but can’t seem to find the cabin air filter. Did they even have them that year?
Thanks!
Hi, my driver side door lock was really stiff, so I pushed my key all the way in and now the key won't turn at all, but it seems smoother when pushing in which makes me feel I've fucked the barrel insides.
Other door works ok and central locking still works, door still locks / unlocks once inside and can turn key in ignition
Hello everyone, as the title says, I would like to know how possible is this and what would I need to get from, let’s say, 1.8 mk3 golf, since they are more common with Monopoint? My Kjet system is faulty and it wont run on petrol, just LPG, so i decided to ditch entire thing this spring and look for viable, not so expensive options. Just to add, it would be illegal in my country to do engine swaps such as 1.8T, so yeah, that idea is out too.
I read possibly a mk3 park brake would fit as well but I'm not sure- they look different online. Thanks in advanced everyone- this is my first "mod" on the mk2 hahaaha
Looks like the teeth and the thing that catches the teeth need replacing. I’m gonna get one on eBay perhaps.
