Who is it, Mr. Sinlindin?
I read it every election year and wonder what this would be like with 80s Chevy Chase in the lead role.
Glen Mattola confirmed on Twitter he’s working on the script for Fletch’s Fortune. The film should be out next year.
Anyone have any real life Fletch stories? I’m a journalist because I read Fletch in high school. Once while I was covering a Tr*mp rally in South Carolina, I got stopped in my car at the parking lot. A rather southern man stopped an and asked “can I hep ya?” My reply: Hi Henry Himmler. I was passing through town and was lookin' for something to do this evening. There was nothing goin' on at the Rotary Club. I heard about this. Attendant: Y’all can park right over there Me: All of us? My colleague in the car after we parked: “What the hell was that?” Haha.
Anyone else think that Jason Sudeikis would've made a great Fletch?
The first book mentions that Stanwyck had a daughter with his wife, not his ex or his mistress.
The Stanwyck's wife tracks Fletch to Brazil in "Carioca Fletch". Do we know what happened to their daughter?
As Mcdonald readers know, the film Fletch Lives! - a somewhat disappointing though still enjoyable follow up to the 1980s classic Fletch (1985) - was not based on a novel by Mcdonald.
What was the inspiration? According to Wikipedia, Mcdonald bought an antebellum farm in Pulaski, Tennessee, birthplace of the KKK, in the mid-1980s and became involved in local politics, specifically anti-Klan work.
Sound familiar?
I can't find much info about the Fletch Lives screenplay, which as far as I know was not written by Mcdonald. But the basic premise and setting of Fletch Lives seems to correlate to what was going on in Mcdonald's life around that time.
Anyone have any info on this?
The 1985 comedy clasic Fletch will remain in my top 10 favorite movies of all time probably till i die. And that movie got me into the book series in the first place. The story, the comedy, the acting, the script, the direction and the music are all 10/10. Just overall a perfect movie.
Then i watched the 2022 movie with Jon Hamm, who i am a fan of (he is still no Chevy Chase). And the reason why the OG movie is much better, is because of the difference of Chevy Chase’s Fletch and Jon Hamm’s Fletch. Chevy Chase’s Fletch is sopposed to be good looking, very confident, everybody likes him, kinda of a bad boy and just a very funny character.
But Jon Hamm’s Fletch is the opposite. He is a clumsy insecure middle aged man and most of the jokes in the movie were about his stupidity. And every time Fletch told a joke in the movie, every other character rolls their eyes. And most of his jokes aren’t even clever, they are just bad dad jokes. Like really bad dad jokes, and i am a fan of dad jokes but those were just awful. And i still think it is unbeliable how Chevy Chase improvised pretty much every line in the script. What a talent, what a legend, because that movie is so goddamn funny that i have trouble breathing! But in Confess Fletch, everybody hates Fletch and he is portraited as this lame ass guy.
I didn’t hate Confess Fletch, i actually liked it more than Fletch Lives because apart from the funny Chevy Chase jokes, the story was so weak. I just wished that they would have retold another book. And i also wished that we could have seen 5-10 Chevy Chase Fletch movies based on the books. Man that would have been funny!
Was there a line in Fletch where he made up a part... a "407 Regular"? If so, what scene?
Thanks
Don't spoil it for me if it is explained in book 4. But At the end of book 3 he had money and at the beginning of book 4 he seems broke. Am I going to learn the answer in book 4?
Is there a chance we could get Kevin Smith's fletch won.
Apparently a very true to the book adaption meant for Jason Lee but I think hamm could do it
I loved it.
It's very much the Fletch movie I hoped we'd get: it's a lot more book-faithful than even Fletch '85 but it still keeps its toes in the more overt-silliness of the Chevy Chase versions.
Confess, Fletch is probably my favorite of the novels and this is a dynamite adaptation. No Inspector Flynn, but they make up for it by jazzing up the rest of the supporting cast. Ayden Mayeri and (in a very small role) John Slattery stood out the most to me.
Hamm is a great Fletch. His portrayal manages to keep the smugness of the character without reproducing the smarm inherent in Chevy Chase's take. It's a nice balance, especially since few people can do likably unlikable the way Chase could in the 80s. Hamm's Fletch is just as interested in showing off how smart he is, but less interested in showing off how much smarter than everybody else he is. But he anchors a very, very funny movie, sometimes getting off the best lines, sometimes being a tuning fork for the other characters to play off of.
The most important thing though: this is a funny movie. It has some farcical elements but does not have the tacky, sitcommy vibe that the trailer suggested. It actually looks and feels like a real mid-range movie, one of those 'they don't make'em like that anymore' high-concept, low-stakes action comedies. Except, hey, they made this one, so they're not dead yet.
I encourage fans of the novels or the 80s series to bite the bullet and VOD this one. It was worth it. Perhaps my second favorite night at the movies this year.
Just watched the new movie this weekend and it does not come close to the feel, humour, suave and brilliance of the originals. The actress Marcia Gay Harden, playing the mother of the love interest, was just embarringly bad and the two cops were pretty bad too.
I knew it would be a tough game to follow up on Chevy Chase's movies, but this new movie is pretty bad. NOT as bad as Steve Martin's failed attempt at The Pink Panther.
That's my rant over and done with.
Have a great Sunday.
I know it's just a trailer and I will go see it anyway. Am I missing something? I saw the trailer for Confess Fletch and I didn't laugh at all.
I JUST learned that my favorite 80's movie is based on a book. How did I now know this?!?!
I'm going to read the books. Is it better to read them in chronological order, publication order, or some other random order?
And should any just be skipped entirely? (Son of Fletch?)
Thanks!
Just finished the reading Fletch-Fletch Too (publication order), and just have to read the two “Son Of” titles. What are your guys favorite book in the series and why?
Kinda bummed out that I haven’t been able to find much of any discussion on the books anywhere online, everyone just wants to talk about the two movies. Here’s hoping the upcoming Jon Hamm movie introduces a lot more to the series!
So glad to find this subreddit.
I searched the internets to no avail to see if there is a UHD / remastered version of Fletch. Anyone seen one?
