Reel size

Hey there, I recently just upgraded to a 36 foot boat and plan to do quite a bit of offshore fishing (i’m used to bay fishing), I was hoping I could get some help from yall with rod and reel recommendations. i plan to target the majority of common species in the gulf (snapper, cobia, wahoo, tarpon, tuna, mahi, kingfish, etc…) Thanks!

Budget salt/fresh water rod

I’m looking for opinions on a good 8 to 9 foot two piece rod that can be used both for saltwater and catfish freshwater fishing. I plan to put a kastking Sharky 5000 spinning reel on it. I’m hoping to keep the price under $70.

Looking for MH Spinning Rod for Pike

A couple friends who can’t use my baitcasters want to go fishing with me for stripers and larger pike. I recently was able to pick up a pair of Penn 750ss and a 450ss all for $35 at an auction. All are in nice shape and I want to pair them with a spinning rod for them. Needs to be able to handle -25 lb mono and lures 1-2oz. I think about 7’ to assist in casting. These would just be spare rods on my boat I would provide for friends so don’t want to go crazy price wise. $125 or less if possible. Any suggestions?

Need help with this rod!

I have had this Fenwick FINC80-1425 for some time now. Not sure what a good application for it is. It’s an inshore plug rod, according to the info on the rod itself. What would a good reel be to pair with this? It’s a casting rod. What would be a good use for it? Got it with a bunch of rods my dad gave me and I really want to use it but just not sure what to use it for or what reel to pair it with! Can hardly find anything about it online! Thanks!

What size rod and reel for saltwater shore fishing for salmon, flounder, and rockfish.

I not sure on what size reel and rod to get for these fish. And was wondering if there are any specific ones you'd recommend. BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT SIZE, please. Also could I catch dogfish, lingcod, and halibut on the same setup? Or is that a whole other ballpark? Keep in mind I'll be shore fishing. Thanks in advance once again. 😅

When you know you have an amazing friend!

I have a friend who has been there for me since day 1 of friendship. My wife got me into fishing last year and my bro is big into fishing and used to be sponsored by Duckett fishing, who once learned I was now into fishing was over the moon about it. We have been fishing together every chance we got. I recently had a mishap in my garage where a wall mounted cabinet fell off the wall and exploded my only baitcaster rod (I am super green when it comes to baitcasters). He called me up today and asked if I wanted to go to cabela’s because he wanted to get another dc reel and a rod to go with it. Any reason to go looking at fishing gear is good enough for me. So he picked out a Corado DC and G. Loomis GCX 903c mbr. We check out, and walking back to the truck, he asks me “ are we friends?” I say “of course we are!” He says but are you my ride or die type of friend?” To which I told him “you know it, you’re my only friend really” (whom I actively talk to, hang out with etc). He says “that’s good, because do you think I REALLY need another rod and reel? Those are for you, Merry Christmas!” I was just blown away. Anywho, just wanted to share, and though he is not a Reddit-er, I wanted to give him props here. Thanks brother!

deep drop / tile fishing reel

hey all,

I'm fishing out of Maryland (sometimes Deleware, New Jersey as well) and looking at trying out tile fishing at some point (and maybe even an overnight tuna trip). I have a nice jigging rod that handles up to 50 lb braid and 400g jigs and I'd like to pair it with a reel that can handle bigger fish like tile fish and maybe even small tuna. It will need to be strong enough to handle these fish and ideally have a high retrieve rate as well as tile fishing could be in waters around 500 feet here (so being able to hold 300+ yards of 50-65lb braid is needed) . Id prefer to avoid electric reels so any recommendations on a good reel would be greatly appreciated. for budget, I'm looking at 250-500$.

Thanks!

Ultra Ultra light

Im looking for a very very light rod that is good quality, around the size of an ugly stik dock runner, and a 1 piece. Also if anyone has any recommendations on a reel to pair with it I'd greatly appreciate it.

My budget Daiwa swimbait came in.

Been patiently waiting/looking for budget SB rod since earlier in the year. Black Friday rolled in with 20% off. Do note, I live in Canada ON.

For fresh and salt water: Penn pursuit 2500 or Okuma ceymar 4000?

I was all set to get my reel this weekend but the price drop has made me reconsider. I’ve purchased a 7’ medium excursion rod and big game 10lbs line to go with it. I was all set to hit buy on the pursuit but then I saw the price on the ceymar… now I’m not sure. I’ already have an ultralight set up for ponds and a 8’ MH w/5000 reel for salt. This is going to be my second rod for medium bass in ponds and lighter fish from like jetties. Stick to my original plan or go with the ceymar. If the ceymar isn’t good for salt then I’ll def stick to the pursuit

Any good cyber Monday deals out there? I’m personally looking for a 12ft surf rod I can travel with. If there’s already a thread I apologize. I searched for one but didn’t see anything.

Is the 2006 Abu Garcia C3 6500 still a great catfish reel?

Is the 2006 model still considered one of the best catfish reels? I know in general they are highly considered as one of the best you can get but I wasn’t sure about this one since it’s older. Thank you!
