Hey all! Looking to get my boyfriend and I a rod each to start going fishing together 😁 Was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Looking for a cheaper but good quality rod in Melbourne Nothing speciality, we’ll just fish off of a pier or some rocks etc Thanks guys!

Hi. I want to get my partner (26m) a reel and rod combo. He used to fish as a teen but hasn’t done it for a long time.
What would be a good recommendation for spinning reel and rod combo for someone fishing around the bay/shore of Melbourne (think st kilda pier spec) for casual fishing.
Something pretty general, middle of the road etc to get him back into the groove easily. He is 6 foot 5 as well- in case that affects the length of rod he should get.
Thanks!
Looking for a good spot to catch carp in aus located south east qld Brisbane city surrounds
I'm in the market for a new light-medium reel for dusk surf fishing, mostly for tailor but good enough for the occasional bycatch.
big shimano fan
was tossing up between a ultegra or a speedmaster
any help/recommendations are appreciated.
All my current setups are great, but they are all freshwater (or estuary at best) oriented. Couple of 6ft baitcasters, few ultralight and light spin rods: i take it they are all useless in saltwater.
What do I need to get into fishing from beach and/or jetties? Are there budget options? Not JarvisWalker budget, probably, but still?
Any non-obvious items i'd need with saltwater that i'm likely not have coming from freshwater?

Hey guys,
Currently looking at getting a rod setup for squid jigging from the boat. Either looking at Atomic Arrowz Estuary or the Samaki Zing Gen 3.
Also wondering what reel would be better - Daiwa Saltist, Shimano Stratic or Shimano Vanford.
Cheers lads.
Hello all, I’m a young lad (18) and I don’t have my own car to drive yet so I mostly fish around sydney harbour and get there by public transport. Used to go much more often with dad a few years ago and just getting back into fishing on my own.
I’m using metal lures, 40g. However, I am struggling to catch fish that I used to catch relatively easily a few years ago (tailor, bonito). I am not targeting a specific species yet as I am somewhat a beginner but just anything that will bite a lure. Anyone have tips for setup with metal lures in Sydney harbour and what kind of gear you guys use?
Hey guys, my nephew came home with these guys already cleaned, wondering if we could get an ID on em. Think the left ones a herring/Tommy ruff, maybe some kind of whiting for the other? Caught just off Perth, possibly around Freo, both around 20cm long
Hi everyone,
I’m conducting a survey to better understand what fishing gear you love and what could be improved. This is not an ad—I’m just looking for some honest feedback from real fishing enthusiasts like you.

It only takes a few minutes to complete, and your feedback will directly influence the development of innovative fishing gear tailored to your needs.
Thank you so much for your time, and tight lines! 🎣

Hey guys,
Apologies for a topic you've probably answered a million times - but I never had the oppurtunity to fish with anyone too capable.
I've recently bought a basic starter combo - Daiwa Aird SW Boat reel, with Surf rod. I'm looking to do some beginner level rock fishing with bait - pilchards, prawns, whatever. Aiming at some sporting fish mostly - ill take what I can get as long as it isn't rockcod. I've caught some aussie salmon and reasonable bream, and they've been my most "exciting" catches.
Trawling the internet for information has me confused honestly. I just wanted to ask this, knowing what gear I have:
Which setup for bait, lb line, float/no float, etc would usually advise a young bloke who just wants to get out and sport fish and have fun. I'm not remotely equipped for any monsters, but I DO want to feel my balls in my stomach when something has a little life to it. I have 25lb Daiwa mono line but I'm thinking that's too much for what I'm targetting/using?
I dunno guys, set me up like I'm your teenage son and you wanna keep me fishing and away from drugs.
EDIT - I'd also be open to buying another combo if you guys think my current one just isn't suitable. I'd be limited to about $300 though.
When do the blue salmon come in, in Queensland?
Looking at getting into fishing with my kids 9 (boy) and 11 (girl). I (39 M) haven’t been fishing since I was a kid. Will be shopping at either BCF or anaconda.
I will be mainly fishing from the banks of Lake Wendouree and Lake Burrumbeet. I believe type of Fish available are brown trout, rainbow trout and redfin.
Looking for recommendations for the basics.
Links would be great!
Best rod and reel combo for about $100 for myself?
Same again for kids? (Maybe a bit cheaper)
Line recommendations?
Hook/Jig Head size recommendations?
Heard soft plastics are a good option too.
Other recommendations welcome.
Hello!
I am a student working on my HSC Design and Tec Project developing a squid jig that can biodegrade and is customisable in changing the colour and weight of the jig.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone who does squid fishing would answer my survey: https://forms.gle/7Yb8Ea9Zisxd7rZP6
The survey aims to gain some insight and guidance into what the fishing community wants and thinks about my project.
Thank you
Hi everyone, I’m fairly new to fishing and looking to get a new rod/reel. My friends and I mainly fish at saltwater spots and don’t target anything too big, but I would like to in the future. I have ~$300 budget and I’m looking for suggestions on what I should do, whether that’s getting a new rod/reel combo or just getting a better quality reel with a cheaper rod. I’m not a complete novice although my knowledge surrounding combos, weights, etc. is pretty limited, so if you could help out and dumb it down for me that would be much appreciated. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
