Is it better to get them separately or buy a combo? A guy from work says the combos are good because they are balanced. But maybe it’s better buying them separate if they are better quality? My budget is $150-200 so nothing crazy. I see some nice Abu Garcia combos for around that price at BCF and Anaconda. I fish bream, flathead etc with soft plastics and smaller bait so only need something light. 2-4kg with a 2500 reel. Any advice on rod, reels or combos appreciated.
I know they are in aus I'd like to try catch some in baitnets. I know the Murray River has them
Hi everyone
Very amateur fisherman here.
I spend most of the time fishing around Narrabeen lagoon or underneath Roseville Bridge (light tackle and prawns).
It’s fun, but majority of the time I’m just catching small bream that I’m throwing back.
What would you guys suggest to catch bigger fish? Very open to trying new locations / lures / even beach fishing.
Thank you in advance.
Recently moved to Melbourne from the Gold Coast, fishing has definitely been tough. I’m looking for land based locations within 2 hours of Melbourne, not super fussed in species but looking to use lures/soft plastics only. Any suggestions?
Fished multiple spots in port Phillip bay and get snagged every other cast using paternoster rig (first hook about 20-30cm above sinker) or running sinker rig how to stop this
Hey, sorry rookie here
I’m in VIC and wanting too get into beach/surf fishing. I only really catch fish for my family to eat and was wondering what the easiest editable fish in VIC is and how/where I go about catching them
Sorry if this is a silly or dumb question
Yo fishing Australia, I hope your day is going well. But I need help, I spent a couple hours doing some research on a rod for rock fishing and beach fishing and I have come across this build that I made
Rod: Daiwa Saltist Hyper Spinning Rod V2 7ft 6in.
Reel: Daiwa BG MQ 6000D-H Spinning Reel
Line: Daiwa J-Braid X8 Muticlour Braid Line 500m 30lb.
Edited version:
Rod: SHIMANO SPEEDMASTER SURF 10'0" SPIN ROD
Reel: Daiwa BG MQ 5000D-H Spinning Reel
Line: Daiwa J-Braid Grand Braid Line Multi 300m 30lb
It would be great if you could help me out and let me know if this is a good setup or not, I will be fishing for good eating sized fish but also sport fishing for whatever bites. THANKS!
Hey lads. I'm looking for a good rod for getting distance when cast light soft plastics. Has any used the Daiwa 23 TD BLACK SUGAPOP 782LFS? If so how do you like it? If not what's your best setup?
Cheers
Took a day off work today to go for a fish. It was windy as hell but I managed to boat a few fish while chasing Mangrove Jack. The Tarpon were hanging around so while I had the live bait in I flicked a small prawn imitation and they loved it.
Also caught some cod, a 50cm Barra but no Jack. They seemed to be taking the baits from behind when I hooked them in the head, and the front when I hooked them in the tail. I got dusted a few times as well. It was super frustrating but it beats the hell out of working!
All fish safely released.
Hi 👋 as the title says i would like some Noodle rod suggestions, i’m a complete beginner when i comes to fishing but i just like to have a go.

Anyone know what this thing is? Caught in NSW
Just reading up apparently they're around se qld rivers. Anyone have any sightings or suggestions on where to catch them?
Obviously they are a killing on site fish (which is sad) but would love to catch one, especially since they get quite big.
Hi all,
I am conducting a short survey for a school project to gain a deeper insight into the problem of lost fishing tackle on a range of scales(recreational, commercial etc.). I would greatly appreciate if you could participate in this market research survey. The end goal for the project is to develop a prototype product which would solve the problem previously stated.

Thank you for your insight.
What a beast! Took 20 mins to bring it to shore. 10 pound line. Felt like I was pulling in a sack of potatoes that would occasionally take 10m of line and make me start again. Then it loomed out of the deep like the Watcher in the Water from Lord of the rings. No chance to actually land it. Eventually the line snapped trying to drag it up on the sand. Must have been 1m wide. Wonder what it weighed. Hook seemed to be caught on its wing. Anyhow, it was my fourth time out and first bite.
plz give a location and what u use to catch them.
Thx in advance
Just looking for recommendations on rod/reels, lures, tips, anything that could help me. Plans for Newcastle harbour, Hunter river etc.
It’s always the last cast.
Brand new outfit, TD Black 701LFS with a Nasci 1000 (birthday present from the fiancé). 6 pound braid, 6 pound leader, atomic 38 mid muddy prawn.
Had a handful of small flatties and bream through the day, and was walking back to the car. Tossed out one last cast, retrieving, bang.
The drag was screaming and braid was flying off the reel. My biggest catch before this was a 40cm flatty that I mistook for a log, no fight at all. I’d never had an actual battle with a fish. It was absolutely incredible.
I started to see it surface and could only see a bit white moon, so of course I assumed it was a ray. Then it surfaced a little bit more, and I saw it was a trevally. As soon as I got a glimpse, he flicked around and steamed straight back down, screaming more line off.
I eventually wrenched him to the surface, and started pulling him towards the rocks. I got him just over the lip, and grabbed for the leader. Of course, snap.
My heart stopped and I jumped after him, barely grabbing him by the tail as he started to flick it to power off. I pulled him into the shallows, lure stuck in his mouth with no leader connected. Absolutely shaking with excitement. iPhone measured him at 45cm.
The treble hooks were completely bent. He really did just come in by a hair. Gave him the ol’ Rex Hunt and sent him on his way.
Safe to say I’m very happy with my birthday present.
On an unrelated note, how much is a GT set up and a boat?
Does anyone have recommendations for green eye squid / calamari fishing within NSW.
Does anyone know if the Kingies and Taylor are on the bite right now in Sydney? If so what bait/lures are recommended? I know live squid are normally the go but are they hitting anything else right now?
