Hey all. I’m looking at a second hand Alvey bait pump. I know I have to check the seals for wear. And I know they can be replaced. But is there any damage I should look out for that would make it unserviceable?
Anyone got any opinion on (preferably experienced using) one of these swivel clips on the end of your line so you can "hot-swap" between say bait fishing jigs, squid jags, lures and soft plastics on the same rod with ease and not have to tie a new knot each time?
Specifically, is this too much metal crap going on/too inconspicuous to fish do you think, attaching this directly to a soft plastic jig head? I'm trying to think of a more efficient way to switch between soft plastics and lures if one colour/type isn't working but also quickly switch over to a squid jag if the fish just aren't biting. I know the correct answer is to just buy more rods haha but I thought i'd see what people think and if someone else is having luck with this technique.
Another though I was having was using say 50cm of line tied to a few different soft plastic's/lures with swivels on the end and keep them wrapped around sheets of cardboard for tidy storage. Then I can hot-swap between the different rigs like that?
Thoughts?
Came across this large (40-50cm) fish in an inner-suburban Brisbane park. It was quite close to a creek, not sure if it came from it. Creek is brackish at the edge of the tide. Any ideas what it is?
Serious question. I posted a while ago about underspooling them both. So I ran all the line off the eggbeater back onto the plastic wheel it came on, put the short length ~50m off the bait caster onto the eggbeater first, and double uni knotted them together and spooled the original egg beater length back on. So the knot is under about 100m of line. I’ll never cast that far as I only fish fresh water river. And got a new reel of Berkeley X8 onto the bait caster.
Up until recently I thought the worst fishing spot in Australia was the Fitzroy River and Capricorn Coast near Rockhampton and Yeppoon. However I did a week’s fishing at a Lake called Monduran which is near GinGin northwest of Bundaberg. It’s meant to have a few barramundi and bass in it. But that’s clearly just a lie to try get people there to spend money on camping fees and fishing permits. All we saw, 4 guys in 2 boats, was 1 catfish for a whole week. Don’t go there, terrible place.
I get a ridiculous amount of carp near me, in small local creeks and the Murray, and it seems like a waste just killing them, could I use their guts and meat as yabbie bait? Would other fish eat them? Anyone got any good ideas?
Hey guys, I’m chasing a new light game rod to match up with a 6k Saragossa. Looking for pe2-3, 8-9 feet long with a long buttstock and a firm feel. I haven’t found anything that’s peaked my interest yet though and I’m chasing recommendations on any rods that you might think would fit this?
Hi All, does anyone know what fish species this is? Caught in Townsville. Is this a grunter? Cheers
Hi guys, early this morning there were Tons and I MEAN Tons of decent sized brims and other types of fishes infront of me, even a long 1.4 meter black striped fish went up near me. Although I've realised that no matter how many soft lures I change into, I couldn't even catch 1 fish. The water was clear and I was able to see that somehow the fishes would stay away from the soft plastic lure or when my lure would pass through the group of brims, they would stay away from it. Can anyone explain to me why this happens? At this point I might just switch to bait fishing but I've already invested soo much on my lure setups! Please help!
I use a 2.5 inch paddle tail and grub with a size 1 hook, weight 1/4 - 1/16.
Somewhat new to fishing for bream on lure - In SW Victoria - bream fishing locations (landbased) are small shallow (max 1.5m, avg <1m) estuary systems that are mostly closed off (at the mouth). Few sessions where I know there are fish and no luck yet, confidence is a bit lacking and potentially knowledge on approach.
I'm curious to get some perspectives on anticipated behavior of bream and searching approaches people use to. Such as
Hope some people can offer some insight - cheers.
Hey all,
Looking a good quiet place to plan a fishing trip, so can anyone recommend any good spots in Sydney that is relatively quiet for fishing, like boat piers etc….??
Just a thought for those who may have not thought about caring for their gear out on the water.
Take a gardening water bottle (spray bottle) and spray your reels down to reduce the salt accumulation! If you don't have one, poke a hole(s) in a plastic water bottle or something!
It's prolonged the longevity of my reels and braid tenfold.
Does anybody else have any simple little "hacks" that are a bit of a game changer??
I’ve been wanting to target Mulloway off the beach using soft plastics recently. I know they can be caught on very light setups in estuaries, but just wondering if the same can be done in the surf? I have a Shimano Speedmaster 10’ 3-6kg rod, would I be crazy to try my luck landing a Jewie with that rod? I’ve caught some 50cm Aussie Salmon pretty easily on that rod for reference.
(Pic for attention)
Looking to fish for bream, flatties, herring etc. just simple fishing because I keep getting nostalgic for targeting those fish when I was younger with my dad.
I have fished all my life with mostly bait but have gotten really heavy into soft plastics over the last few months.
I’ve been having a lot of fun targeting bream and would like to get something a bit more premium in the 1-3kg range.
I am looking to spend upwards of $600 (id rather spend more now than go mid range and decide to upgrade later) so am hoping you guys have some recommendations/favourites or even what rods to avoid?
So far people have suggested things like the Millerod Grub Freak, Shimano Tcurve Premium or their Zodias but I’m a bit lost on it all.
This is one of my more amusing small catches
Lowrance elite 5dsi. Doesn't show any arches. Even when over fish. Is it supposed to?
90 bucks for 13 lures and a net off aliexpress. Caught my first fish off a hardbody today and I’m hooked as you can see
