Douglasville family history & ancestry

Hello everyone!

I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local Georgia family lineages and stories through vital records, census records, and newspapers.

This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their personal Georgia family history. I create family trees, ancestral maps, and historical road trip itineraries based on YOUR personal family history! It’s a great way to connect with your heritage and wonderful knowledge pass down to future generations.

LINK TO INTEREST FORM: Family History Interest Form

Here are some things you can discover from my research:

  • Newspaper articles about your ancestors (Crime? Scandal? Who knows!)
  • Custom ancestral mapping showing your approximate ethnic admixture
  • Most common causes of death in your family history
  • United States migration mapping showing how your ancestors migrated throughout the country
  • Your great-great-great grandparents’ names
  • Most popular professions and careers in your family history
  • Photographs of your ancestors you have never seen before (Found in Newspaper archives, I have subscriptions to several newspaper websites)

I have a degree in Anthropology and have spent several years working for a professional genealogy company. I have been working as an individual genealogist for about 6 years. If you have any questions about my research, please fill out an interest form or email: heritagehuntersgenealogy@gmail.com

For those of you with ancestry outside of Georgia, please send me a message. I’d be happy to help you or direct you to a better suited genealogist. Thanks!

Board of Commissioners

Been doing alot of research and it seems the board of commissioners for Douglas County is fairly corrupt. Any idea how these guys (Kelly Robinson in particular) is able to secure 4 terms? Is there no one running against him. Fairly new to the area so still trying to understand who is who and what is what,

1920s Historical Information Needed

Hi, I really want to find the house / location that my grandmother grew up. Where is the best place in Douglasville that may have historical maps? Just answer a few possible questions. Yes, I was raised with my grandmother. I've gotten a copy of the 1920 census via Ancestry.com so I have the address, but none of the maps online are helpful thus far.

My family and I will be moving to Douglasville within the month. I am wanting an overnight job, does anyone have any recommendations? I am on indeed as well but I figured I could ask locals. I am in my early 30's and have experience ranging from clerical to building maintenance. Thank you in advance.

Homelessness In Douglasville Ga

I see alot of homeless people on the streets of Douglasville. When I talk to them I always here that they are trying to get there IDs or Drivers Licence so they can get a job. Is it that hard to get a ID to get a job in Georgia or are there any jobs that you don't need an ID to work? What needs to change to make this easier on them?

Seeking Wheelchair Users to Participate in Georgia Tech Research Study

The Rehabilitation Engineering and Applied Research (REAR) Lab is looking for participants to help us with one of our ongoing studies! Our lab focuses on the research and development of technologies aimed at helping those with disabilities. For this project, we are using pressure mats to measure information about the participant's posture while they are seated on a wheelchair cushion. Eligible participants must be:

  1. A current wheelchair user

  2. Aged 18 years or older

  3. Able to transfer on and off their chair independently

Participating in this study involves a two visits to our lab at Georgia Tech's campus. During the first visit, which will last 60-120 minutes, we would have you transfer off your chair, attach the weight shift sensor underneath your cushion, place a pressure mat on top of the cushion, and have you transfer back to your chair. During the study, you may be asked to move in your chair and shift your weight at various times. Then you would go home with a sensor inside your wheelchair cushion cover, below your cushion that will measure your weight shifts during everyday life. In 1-2 weeks you would come back to Georgia Tech for a short visit to have the sensor removed.

As a thank-you for participating, we will send you a $40 gift card. Please reply to this message or email rearlabgatech@gmail.com for more information!

More info on our lab is available at http://rearlab.gatech.edu/ if you are curious about what we do.

Biking trails in the area

So I'm a noob with a new bicycle and am looking for somewhere reeeeeally not overrun with people. Sidewalks preferred (cuz haven't ridden since I was a kid and am not feeling overly confident).

I thought I'd like the Silver Comet trail, especially the lower volume access point at Powder Springs, but it was still too busy, so many people. Unfortunately, I can only go on weekends or later afternoon before sundown, which I know doesn't help since that's when the rest of the world goes, too.

Any suggestions? I thought Sweetwater had some paved trails, but apparently not. I was gifted a nice touring bike and would like to make use of it, but have to start low key or its not gonna happen...really appreciate any ideas. Open to pretty much anything within a 30ish min drive.
