Was going to tuck the extra slack for my rear camera in the rear passenger side cushion. This is a potential fire hazard right? For my ‘23 Corolla Hatchback.
I almost got hit by a deer this afternoon, it came out of nowhere in the middle of town and scared me half to death, I brake hard, I scream, luckily I stop in time and it bounds off, and I head on my way, and I was meeting a friend for dinner about 20 minutes away from the incident.
Because I was meeting them for dinner, I didn't have time to pull the footage, and then after we had dinner and talked for several hours, it's freezing here so I went home before I pulled the footage.
It didn't catch the hard stop, and although it says that I'm barely using any of my storage, it already overwrote about 15 minutes of the footage after the incident, so I don't have the incident, I don't have before or after, anything. It's only been a few hours, and it's not like I drove hundreds of miles, I drove across town and back. I should have the footage to be able to download, but I don't because it got overwritten even though I have cloud service and a memory card.
I'm starting to think that maybe this isn't the best match for me, I should be able to calm down and pull footage a couple hours later without it being overwritten.
Does anybody have a better recommendation? I get a lot of ads for nexar, but I heard that they might not work with the newer Samsungs? I also feel like the q800 pro app looks like it's from 2005 and is very unfunctional considering how expensive the camera was, it's superficial and basic and although not hard to use, does not make it convenient or easy to use either.
So from what I can tell, the A329 Pro differences are basically an external ssd (I'll never use) and marginal image improvements in specific circumstances (which would be nice) except compared to the A229Pro its roughly £130 more expensive (£250 vs £380) which isn't worthwhile I don't think.
It's a small car (MX5) but was leaning towards a front+rear dual camera setup (though I did see a 'tandem' one which did both in a single unit, the image quality didn't seem great though).
Decent image quality obviously important. Starvis2 is probably the 'minimum' for low light. 4k30 (at least) for the front and probably 2k for the rear ideally.
Something I noticed is that there doesn't seem to be a way (at least in the Viofo) to automate when to use the parking modes. I'd obviously want them to be active when I'm out and about in busy place or visiting people, but when I get home I don't really need it. I could just set it to turn off at a battery voltage, and I would probably be fine...
I considered the Blackvue Dr970X Plus, as it seems to be a nice compact unit compared to the bulky Viofo. Quite a bit more expensive though, and a lot of the features seem to be locked behind a subscription(?) making it infinitely more expensive. I have my own server/cloud at home so paying for Blackvues service wouldn't be ideal. I like some of the other options though, and it's size is a plus.
(Edit - The Blackvue is £600. So... yeh maybe not.)
Would appreciate any recommendations!
Howdy. I have read the installation guide, viewed videos, and attempted to remove the disk for formatting post 30 day installation. Hard wired, auto is OFF. I am unable to remove the disk. It appears a person pulls straight out on the disk? Ideas appreciated. be well! Thanks!
Hello group! I just bought a dash cam and was going to have someone install it. I was wondering what the everyone paid to have theirs installed. I heard Geek Squad can install for $80. Not sure if that’s a good deal or not. TIA
I got a Viofo A129 Plus Duo and am debating on placement on the front window.
From what I understand, it's best to have it relatively hidden from view while driving even if it has a display screen. I found a good placement for it to the right (passenger side) behind the mirror. But the issue is that with it placed, I won't really have easy access to it if I need to fiddle with the settings or see the screen, even if parked or from the passenger seat.
So my (stupid) questions are should I place it where I can easily see the screen and adjust settings if I need to? How often do you find you need to change the settings, or can you basically set it up and just leave it with only access to the memory card needed? I should be able to detach the cam from the GPS mounted to the window and plug it back in, but is the mounting strong enough to handle detaching/reattaching it multiple times? Thanks for any input!
Hey! New to this subreddit. I've been wanting a dash cam for awhile, but yesterday I noticed that on my car, a 2017 Mazda 6 that I've had for 10 months, already has front and rear cameras installed. Not sure if the car came with them or if the last owner installed them. Can anyone here tell me how to get them working?
So I found the rear dash cam on my seat today and it stopped working- I’m assuming it’s because the usb pins are bent. Should I try bending it back or am I sol lol
VIOFO a129 duo
I just got the rove r2-4k installed along with a 512gb card and the hardwire kit so that it has the 24hr watch feature.
My car is currently turned off and parked outside. Using the rove app, am I able to connect to the dashcam and watch the live stream? When I open the app, it just takes me to this page and I can’t connect to it’s built in WiFi.
I'm getting the A329 cameras installed in my Sienna right now. Someone mentioned that since I enjoy capturing scenery, I should think about adding cameras to the side windows too.
For those with experience: What would you recommend for capturing scenic routes? Are side cameras worth it? Would love to hear from anyone who uses their dashcam setup for more than just security footage. Should I buy two more A329’s or would you recommend something else?
As the title states, which one should I get? I cant mind much on the Piqo but I do like the small form factor and simplistic design.
How do I unblur a license plate from my rear camera, a truck hit me today and drove off so I couldn't get any information, never got a chance to look at plates. Any help is appreciated
As my title suggests, I'm struggling to figure out dashcam is ideal for my needs.
I've tried to do some research on my own, but have some questions that I'm struggling to get answers to.
First of all, it seems as though I'm looking for a single channel dashcam (though one that shows front and then a driver/taxi cam style is not a bad idea either).
I drive a Mazda CX-5 and I was looking to install it using a Dongar adapter so that it can plug into the mirror rather than needing to wire down to the fuse box.
Parking mode is something I'd be interested in, though I know there are ways you need to wire it up so that you don't drain your battery. I work from home, so my car can sit in my driveway for days at a time without anyone using it. I obviously don't want to be draining my battery during these times. This also relates to the Dongar adapter I mentioned. It seems that most of the cams I've looked at, it recommends that you use their own wiring, which would hook into the fuse box. I assume using the Dongar adapter would not give me the same safety that wiring to the fuse box would, right?
It seems that Blackvue is/was the standard, but as I've researched it seems as though there a number of different options out there.
Blackvue seems to really be Cloud focused, and I'm not sure that's something I'm interested in. I don't need a LTE enabled dashcam, or something streaming constantly to the cloud. I don't want to purchase or need to have some sort of monthly subscription either.
I also found the Viofo A139 Pro which seems to be a pretty solid. It does mention about using Viofo SD cards... Does Viofo have a proprietary requirement to use theirs or could I find a Sandisk or other branded SD Card? (This question I guess relates to any other brands, be nice to know which ones require you to use their card)
I've also looked at the 70mai M500 which seems to have integrated storage? It also looks like a solid option for what I'm looking for though.
Anyways, if anyone else has some other recommendations I'd be interested. I'm not looking to break the bank and get the absolute top of the line, but I want something a bit more than a budget dashcam too.
I did look at the pinned thread, but the linked cams were mostly 2 channel, or budget single channel. I'm also in Canada, so some of the options listed there are simply not available over here.
Some months ago, I asked about a rear mirror monitor replacement and have since landed on a WOLFBOX G900Pro. I will have the bracket to replace the entire mirror, not just a clip on. I was resistant to these types initially, but the bracket, the front STARVIS2 IMX678 and the rear STARVIS IMX335 changed my mind. Add Black Friday savings, and I couldn't resist. Since I wanted this primarily as a rear view mirror, it was hard to find anything with a decent rear camera; most seem to have a nice front camera but kinda neglect the rear.
I was also resistant to replacing my Blackvue, simply because I had no reason to, but also makes little sense to run two front dash cameras. As my goal is the OE look, removing the Blackvue makes sense. Currently, the 2nd channel is facing the interior (its on the rear glass, and was facing out before the camper went on).
When the WOLFBOX comes in, should I just entirely remove the Blackvue or does anyone have any suggestions to repurpose it? I think someone suggested I put the 2nd channel inside the camper, just to be able to monitor I guess. If I went this route, I'd have to move all the wiring so that CH 1 goes in the rear glass facing in, and CH 2 can go inside the camper. One plus of keeping the Blackvue is that I can continue to use the LTE module as a hotspot, which I am pretty sure I at least need the front camera for that right?
Hi there! Hoping this community will be of help so I can take advantage of extended cyber Monday. My wife just got a Subaru outback after having her previous car totaled while it was parked last month. It was sideswiped luckily when no one was in it by a truck. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I she would’ve let me put a dashcam in for her prior; now she’s all for it.
I still have my roav dashcam in my own car but seems they stopped making them. Budget is $200 or below. I would like a dashcam for her that is easy to use and has:
We are not savvy with taking apart cars nor do I really want to, so hardwiring is out of the question for now.
Does anything like this exist? Thanks in advance!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the orange button does not lock the previous segment.
Which I don't understand, because I don't have the magic ability to look into the future and make sure I press the orange button before an accident! What the hell VanTrue?
Anyone knows how to fix this?
If it's not possible then this dashcam is going back to where it came from.
I have the dashcam pro from Dash Vision. Suddenly, the playback of all videos are far too fast, turning 30 second videos into 3 or 4 seconds.
Having checked thoroughly, there are no settings to adjust playback or what have you.
Any solutions? Been through three dashcams so far and really don't feel like spending another 80 - 100 quid on another one. Thank you.
Hey all,
I own a Navitel R600 GPS dashcam and I would like to know whether I can achieve the following things the moment I make a screenshot in one of my recordings:
Can I save the coordinates where the screenshot was taken in Stereo 70 instead of geographics coordinates?
Can I find out how many KM I've driven since I started recording until the moment I made the screenshot?
I wasn't able to find any of these options in Navitel's SW. Is it perhaps possible to achieve this with a 3rd party SW?
I will be installing one of the Viofo 2 channel cameras (likely the A329) for normal front/rear use, but I also would like to add another camera on the top corner of my windshield looking towards the side window to use for situations like police stops. I've faced aggressive cops in the past and been swarmed by multiple cruisers due to a lying cop putting out a false radio call, so I want to protect myself as much as I can, within reason. I've also had multiple good friends deal with illegal searches. My goal is to record the interior of the car, and specifically any interactions at the side window, although a wider interior view is fine too. I think I want two, so I can aim one to each side, but I don't care if they are independent or if it's a 2 channel system. I'd like something that can be configured to start recording when power is applied, and will continue until the memory card is full, with no looping, since these would only be used rarely and would be manually triggered, and I may not be around to stop the recording. I can handle wiring them to a switch, etc. I'm hoping this can be accomplished with some relatively affordable cameras, since I don't need max resolution or the latest features for this application. I'm also not looking for something to upload to the cloud or anything. Just the ability to have clear documentation of what happens next time I get stopped.
Any good cameras I should be looking at for this application? I think the two biggest challenges will be a mount that's flexible enough to aim across the car, and having an appropriate field of view. I appreciate any suggestions!
Hi everyone! I recently hardwired my new viofo a229 plus. I have never hardwired anything before but am pretty handy. I tapped two unused fuse slots. The BAT is connected to consistent power and the ACC only has power when the key is on as it should. When I first powered it on everything worked as it should, including parking mode. I then ran the cables. After running the cables I was excited to have the job done. On my final test it worked fine powering on. But when I turn the car off, the dash cam enters parking mode for maybe 5-10 seconds, then goes into normal recording mode. I have it set to 1 frame per second Timelapse. Parking gps is off. Any idea what the problem might be? Also installed a new battery before installing the dash cam. I have gone through all the troubleshooting I could find online. I bought the hardwire kit from viofo and instead of two pieces of each fuse tap type, I got three mini fuse taps and only one low profile fuse tap. My 2010 Honda accord has low profile fuses, but the mini fit just fine. Could this be the problem? I have tinkered with it all day and am at my wits end. This is the last ditch effort before going in to see a professional. This is the last thing I need to do before my roadtrip, now it’s delaying my departure, and I’m on a budget. Any help would be much appreciated!!!
Hi!
I have a Vantrue E3 that I want to hardwire. 1 hardwire kits powers both front and rear camera, correct? Or do I need to purchase 2 hardwire kits?
Are hardwire kits universal? If my dash cam has USB-C ports for power then any USB-C kit will work, correct? Or should it be brand specific?
I have only had it about a week. Once I get it hardwired in and use for a bit longer I’ll come back with a full review but so far I like it!
I recently ordered two VIOFO A119 Mini 2 dash cams and one of the reasons I selected these is their website states they can use microSD cards up to 512GB,
However, I've just downloaded the manual (to familiarise myself with the dash cams before they arrive), and the manual mentions they can use microSD cards up to 256GB,
Can any VIOFO A119 Mini 2 dash cam owners share their experience in terms of card sizes they've used?
For me the capacity is a big consideration, and I've already purchased two 512GB microSD cards, so I'm hoping the VIOFO website is more accurate and up-to-date. That said, the manual is a PDF download, so it'd be easy for them to update, hence my confusion which is right, and which is wrong?
I need a recommendation for a dashcam under 120 CAD
I have a dash cam on my tow vehicle that records to an SD card. When I'm towing my camper, I want to have a camera attached the the back of it that records on a loop. Everything I've found as "RV backup camera" requires the wireless monitor to be plugged in AND powered on AND manually hit record.
Alternative way to look at it - if a friend borrowed my camper and towed it somewhere, I want to be sure the camper rear camera records while in motion, in case of any accidents.
Am I using the wrong search terms? Why cant I find this?
ETA - There's no rear window on the camper so camera will need to be placed on the exterior.
I bought a dashcam previously without reading that it doesn't record automatically, and continuously when driving. it records only upon impact (whether driving or parked). while driving I can press a button to start a one minute recording on that. but that's not practically useful.
I need a cam that -
I am not sure what such a feature is called. 'looping' is what it seems to suggest, but i am not sure. and want to make sure before i buy.
can someone with experience let me know if there are such cameras and which one is good for a limited budget (less costly - not looking for super expensive) ?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Thanks for users who gave suggestions. I learned that the feature I am looking at is called - 'drive recording'.
I'm currently looking at the Vantrue E2. This dash cam seems good but does not come with a hard wire kit or SD card, so after I buy all of that separately I will be over my budget.
I'm just looking for recommendations of dash cams for font and rear and if you have a Vantrue E2 I would appreciate your review. Thanks for the help!
I found this on the side of the road, is there anyway I can get it to turn on and work as a normal camera. It has some damage on the side I believe.
