Honoring Our Veterans: An Interview with Lindsey Adsett on Remembrance Day
Rehabilitation Services Specialist Lindsey Adsett
As Remembrance Day approaches, we are reflecting on the sacrifices and resilience of Canadian veterans through the insights of Lindsey Adsett, a dedicated Rehabilitation Services Specialist who works closely with veterans in British Columbia. Lindsey’s work with PCVRS (Partners in Canadian Veterans Rehabilitation Services) involves developing rehabilitation plans tailored to veterans’ unique needs, helping them transition from military to civilian life with a focus on physical and mental health.
Supporting Veterans in Transition
Lindsey’s role is deeply rooted in a holistic approach to rehabilitation. Working from home, she virtually meets with veterans, assessing their needs and connecting them with resources such as psychologists, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and occupational therapists. Her goal is to support veterans as they build quality of life and, in some cases, return to the workforce. Over her year and a half in this position Lindsey has found it fulfilling to witness some veterans progress from being significantly isolated to becoming more connected socially and experience an improved quality of life.
The Challenges Veterans Face
Through her work, Lindsey has seen common challenges among veterans, many of whom struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), isolation, and a sense of disconnection from society. Approximately 90% of veterans she works with have experienced trauma that makes reintegration difficult. Often, veterans turn to substance abuse as a coping mechanism, which can complicate the recovery journey. The OSI (Operational Stress Injury) Clinics in British Columbia offer critical support, providing specialized therapy and group sessions that help veterans address PTSD, insomnia, and more.
The Impact of Remembrance Day
For Lindsey, working with veterans has changed her perspective on Remembrance Day. She recognizes this time of year as emotionally intense for veterans, with many experiencing heightened trauma triggers and relapses. In her role, Lindsey and her team strive to offer understanding and compassion to veterans during this period, knowing it stirs complex emotions.
How the Creston Community Can Help
When it comes to community support, Lindsey emphasizes the importance of simply listening to veterans. While Creston may not have abundant veteran-specific resources, fostering a sense of inclusivity and validation for veterans is invaluable. Many veterans feel the impact of mental health challenges, and a simple gesture of kindness can make a profound difference. Lindsey encourages residents of Creston to honor veterans year-round by acknowledging their sacrifices and providing an empathetic ear.
Closing Thoughts
As we approach Remembrance Day, Lindsey invites us to honor the resilience and sacrifices of our veterans by reaching out and offering understanding. Her work reminds us that veterans face unique and ongoing challenges—and that our support, whether through listening or advocating for community resources, plays a crucial role in helping them feel valued. Let’s honor our veterans not just on Remembrance Day but every day, in gratitude for their service and dedication.

Hi, Creston Valley Redditors! 👋 With the rising cost of living and a growing interest in multi-generational homes, more families are exploring granny pods (also known as in-law suites or accessory dwelling units). These cozy little spaces allow aging parents or adult kids to live close while keeping their independence. Plus, they can increase your home’s value and even provide rental income. Here’s a breakdown:
Why Granny Pods Make Sense in Creston:
Thinking about whether a granny pod is the right fit? Check your local zoning rules, and consider things like accessibility features and family dynamics to make sure it's a great experience for everyone.
If you’re interested in discussing whether a granny pod could be a wise investment, I’d be happy to help answer questions and explore how it could benefit you. Reach out anytime to learn more about how these units fit into Creston Valley living! 🌿

Creston BC is often considered Nature's best Playground. What are your favorite Creston BC Fall Activities?
Hi,
Just wondering if there are any DnD groups in Creston? I've always been interested in trying it out but wasn't sure how to find a local group.
Thanks.
I saw a couple campsites but they're like $50 per night. I just to rest for a couple hours.
I've never been to Canada before and have the opportunity to go to Creston. My son's friend lives there, both boys, teenages. We would stay with his parents who I've met and are nice. My son would say in their house and I was offer the camper, a pop up I believe. I was told that they just need to hook up the water. My question is, I'd be down for some hiking. However I would like to have a rental car so I can do my own thing. Visit the breweries and wineries. I didn't see an Avis or other rental car company besides something that looks to actually not be open for business. I believe they live on the north east side of the mountain. Ive found a few Airbnb but without a rental car at my dispensary I feel like I have no choice to stay in the camper, not that I wouldn't be appreciative of that but I think then I'd feel stuck. Thoughts? TIA.
I’m considering the move to Creston and have pet questions for the locals! How many of you have pets - mainly dogs and/or cats?
Is Creston and the surrounds well served when it comes to pet food stores and services?
Are rentals pet friendly?
Are businesses pet friendly?
Thank you!!
Hello! I’m looking at a move down to Creston for work in April, and planning on staying long-term. I’ve been looking at the rental market on Facebook and it seems really limited - I’d be looking for a 1 bedroom for $1200 or less (utilities included) - I MIGHT be able to afford a bit more but I’d prefer less if I could.
Is this a reasonable amount? Secondly, does anyone have any recommendations for looking for rentals? Is a commute from a nearby town reasonable?
Thank you in advance for any help/advice you can offer!
I cannot tell from the city's website as it only shows part of the tax calculation.
What is your residential assessed value and gross property tax before any grants?
Cost of Utilities ? What do they include?
A friend posted a plea… she bought this salsa in Creston and would like to buy more or get the recipe. She said amazing roadside stands but she can’t remember where she got this. Any ideas?
I want to get family a gift card for coffee this year, but I don’t drink coffee myself. What local business does a good coffee in town?
Hey Creston!
Local resident doctor and longtime redditor working here in Vancouver/Burnaby/New West. We've been hearing a ton about the significant shortage of family docs in BC right now, which is putting a lot of pressure on people of all ages to manage their health on their own.
While DEFINITELY not a replacement, UBC Med Students and Resident Doctors in the lower mainland, Victoria, Kelowna, and Prince George have put together a new 1-on-1 free online lifestyle medicine / health coaching program to support people working towards healthier lifestyles who might otherwise not have access to such support! It's called PLM Coach (stands for Prevention & Lifestyle Medicine). It's science-based - we actually did a research study of the program among older adults during COVID!
If you know anyone looking to work with someone to improve their health (particularly older adults living with health challenges or chronic conditions), feel free to send them to plmcoach.ca to see if it might help out! The coaches are super passionate, and would love to connect.
Take care and be well!
I’ve lived here a few months and loving it. Are there any good fall/winter events to watch out for?
And I’m curious…are you voting for Jim Rota or Arnold DeBoon for mayor? I don’t know much about either of them.
We are passing through Creston on our way to Saskatoon and have a flat tire. Have the spare on, but can’t find anybody open on Saturday to get it repaired. Any suggestions from the locals? Any help/advice is appreciated. In a bit of a bad situation
Hello! I am new to Reddit and maybe soon I will be new to Creston. My husband and I (along with our two toddlers) are thinking of moving to the area. Can anyone tell me about services such as a library, hospital, children's activities/ playgrounds and elementary schools/ daycares?
Is the area safe (from violent crime?) Is the area often impacted by fires or floods? Are the highways in and out of town easy to drive? Is the weather as mild (summer & winter) as I read about online?
We have lived in the central interior, Okanagan and on Vancouver Island but have never even visited the Kootenays so any information will be greatly appreciated :)
Hi there... just wondering if Shaw and Telus operate in Creston? If Telus is there, does it have a fibre-optic network?
And does anyone have any reviews of Swift for living just out of town?
TIA!
On holidays and going through one of my favorite areas on thr motorbike. Stopped in at Wild North Brewery for a beverage. Hoping for a one stop meal and craft beers but settled with a tasty pint of something hazy. I should really pay attention more.
