Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.
Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person.
Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to is a scammer.
Don't accept cashier/certified checks or money orders - banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible.
Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a "guarantee".
Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).
Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing "deal" may not exist.
Refuse background/credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person.

Is it normal to have a stipulation like that? Otherwise the posting looks legit. I have been giving away a few free items for years on CL and in the past year the majority of emails I get about them are AI, so I'm wary of phone number harvesters. Plus most people do not have a local number if they moved...
It seems like virtual garage sales should be a thing on Craigs List by now, with its own category? I logged in and went to the Garage Sale category, but it said no virtual sales allowed. Then I Googled how to do it, and it said this:
"You can post a virtual garage sale on Craigslist; simply select the "garage sale" category when creating your listing, and clearly state in the ad that it's a virtual sale, including details on how people can contact you to purchase items and arrange delivery or pick-up methods, as Craigslist doesn't have a specific "virtual garage sale" option, but you can still advertise it that way within the existing "garage sale" category."
Soo...is this AI answer wrong? I don't want my account messed up because I listed the sale the way it instructed!
Ross Ulbricht was pardoned by the felon, so I suggest it is time to bring back the personals section.
Ya, I know there is a wide gap between the Silk Road and where we ended up with many sites fearing being held responsible for bad actions of its users, but I am still rooting for personals to return.
I like buying bikes on Craigslist. The last bike I bought on CL was back in 2020. I'm in the market for a new bike again. Over the last 4-5 days, I've emailed two different sellers, and neither has replied. Sellers have usually replied within 24 hrs or less. Has something changed about CL's email option that I don't know about? Is it just that gmail's junk filters have gotten stupid aggressive? Wondering if any buyers or sellers have had similar issues.
Some guy offered to trade me one of my ISOs in exchange for used bras and underwear. He said his wife has died and he wanted some safe fun. Honestly I wouldn't mind cuz the stuff I'm asking for would be worth hundreds of dollars and I have plenty of underwear that i could part with. Is this a bad idea?
I have a question regarding email formats on craigslist, like for instance could you tell whether a craigslist anonymous email format was in response to what type of an ad. safe Say for instance a personals ad or something for sale etc.
8a990dad500e3c49bde9d00df094a@reply.craigslist.org
Would this format tell anyone what type of ad it was in response to?
(I’ve changed a few things in the beginning of the address for privacy reasons)
Thank you
Are your items selling? Are people buying or just getting the free stuff?
i'm browsing through craigslist and I found their "best-of-craigslist" postings. they got some funny stuff on there. anyone out there that have a good story or heard of one from craigslist?
If I have a listing expire I can repost with one click but the pics will be gone. Any way to restore them or is it always the case that I must manually re-upload? Seems to defeat the purpose of one click relisting.
Is it better to put sale by owner or by dealer?
I tend to browse Craigslist's Free Stuff page but I keep seeing a few of the the same items reposted for years--it's annoying. It'd be nice if there were ways to use a browser extension to weed out those items and other ones, maybe by keyword.
For example, I'm not interested anything related to pets, babies, industrial items, vehicle-related, most furniture, elderly related, etc.
Ideally, I'd just like to see only the newest ads since I last checked, and even those weeded out for irrelevant content.
Is there any way to do this with Craigslist?
(This is in LA)so reccently i found a craigslist Job offer for cleaning houses and apartments, etc, and I need help cause I don’t know if this is fraud or some sort of scam.So I called and And some robot picked up and said that google would transfer me to my call and it told me just to say my name,so I did. Then the lady from the job offer picked up eventually, and she scheduled an interview for the next day and told me to bring my ID and Green card,I Go and the address she gave me is some sort of small office building and it didn’t even have a business name and the glass doors were fully tinted pitch black, where you could only see people if your inside. They opened the door for me eventually, and when I walked in there were small offices (like the ones in banks) and she only had a Laptop and some papers on the desk,so they interview me,ask questions any experience and all that, and then she Asks for my Drivers license and Green Card so I gave it to her,she didn’t take any pictures of anything she just looked at them and typed something on her laptop for like 2 minutes.fast forward the next day I texted and called the number multiple times and I get No response at all,and I need help to know if this is some sort of fraud scam or identity theft scam Pls help.
Someone want to have movers pickup a pc I’m selling because they bought more stuff that movers are also moving. The offered to pay over the phone now and pick up tomorrow. I find it weird they can part ways with 1000$ without inspection themselves.
The law office I work in is closing and my boss asked me to put some furniture on Craigslist to sell. I posted a table for $500 and got a response in a couple hours from someone interested. He asked for a number to text me and I gave him my Google Voice number.
He texted and asked if the furniture was still available and said he wants to send a cashier's check for $500 plus $50 to hold the table and after it clears he'll pick it up. The texts just seem a little weird and he's double texted a couple time, it feels a little aggressive. I wanna just have him call the office and talk to my boss (owner of the building) but my boss is in his 70's and not super familiar with Craigslist; I don't wann a get him scammed. It might be fine, I just don't use Craigslist much myself.
Great basic apartment close to all transportation available in January. Choose your own paint colors.
No broker, so NO BROKER’S FEE!!! One month’s rent security. Must supply a credit report and provide basic information to Condo Association.
Engineered wood floors. No parking. No dishwasher. Coin laundry in the building. Great Super and intercom security. Least expensive apartment in the best Gold Coast neighborhood!
Showing apartment today Tuesday January 7 by appointment starting at 10am! Please text or call xxx-xxx-xxxx for an appointment."
I texted the owner and she responded. She told me her name and I reversed searched the number and it came back to what she said her name was and address of the apartment. However, it seemed weird because she told me to text her maid who would let me in to show me the apartment. And the listing is very cheap compared to the others in the area.
So i just listed my Volvo s60 onto the craig last night. I ended up getting about 6 people asking if it’s available of course, but about 4 people this morning have all asked ME to purchase a report ON MY VEHICLE. When i purchased the car from the dealership i ended up getting a carfax with it. After mentioning that i have already purchased my own report and i can send it them they opt to saying “my grandpa owns a dealership and told me to only get reports off this site” or “i don’t trust carfax they are unreliable and not trustworthy, here try this website and pay for a report for me”.
Am i being stubborn here or paranoid? I have always had the though if you’re going to buy a car get a report. never had the though came across my mind to ask the person selling the car to purchase a report on my behalf. Idk what do you “experts” think?
I haven't used CL in forevs and I received a response to my post telling me they are interested, but they don't check CL mail and asked me to email them directly. I did see that CL says a good and valid transaction uses CL mail. Curious for people's thoughts!
Hi all! It’s been a while since I’ve used Craigslist. I’m looking into purchasing a $200 Nintendo Switch. Seller is about an hour away, so he is willing to ship it to me via FedEx. He wants me to pay with Zelle or Venmo. From my research, this is more beneficial to me (the buyer). Would you go ahead?
Are craigslist listings where they ask you to call or text them using a phone number provided with mix of digits and number words, e.g. 7 one 4 - 4 six 8 - 3 nine 2 5, versus use of craigslist email system a scam?
Are craigslist listings where they provide details for contacting them in the listing using a phone number provided using mix of digits and number words, e.g. 7 one 4 - 4 six 8 - 3 nine 2 5, versus use of craigslist email system a scam?
Just grousing...haven't sold anything on craigslist lately, but get a ton of "is this still available" or "I'm interested, call me"; what's the point of sending these emails? I've quit responding to either because I never hear back.
I was in contact with a seller and told him that if the item was still available after January 1st, I would be interested in purchasing it. Just now, when I went to the posting, it says it is expired. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the seller sold the item—he just needs to repost if it's still for sale. I emailed him just now through the expired posting, but haven't received a reply yet. Do sellers still receive craigslist emails when you reply to an expired posting?
I sell lots of misc items on craigslist. Works great for me. After selling a item I immediately delete the listing. There remains a list of all expired or deleted items in the active list for many weeks or months.
Is there any way to delete these "deleted" items? Hope that explained it.
I'm curious as to how the scammers actually make money. I am considering simply engaging one of them on a cheap item to see what happens.
Some offer to send cashiers checks, wait for them to clear, then send in a moving team to get the item. How does this work?
And why do some of them text and then ask to email?
I received a text message less than an hour after posting a mattress for sale. It asked if the item was still available, then "We're not available to come in person, can we mail a check? We can organized pick up when the check clears. Thank you." I suggested I'd deliver it and all the other payment options I could think of. All I got was "I'm sorry we're old couple, we don't do electronics banking anymore, check works fine for us." They also offered extra money for the hold, then I got "Please check will be made in excess which will cover the money for the movers we'll need your assistance paying them at time of pickup. I hope that won't be a problem ?"
I received some more texts today, the check arrived, and it's for over $1,400 (way more than necessary). They had told me it was coming from New York but the sender location on the envelope was a company in Missouri. The payor on the check was a different company in Nebraska. I called the number that had been texting me, no answer. So I looked up the payor's name and the FB profile for that company came right up. I reached out via Messenger, they confirmed that the check was not authorized and that their account has recently been hacked.
I'm still getting texts asking if I got the check. They even called me back, said "Hello" from behind a loud connection, and hung up. I'm thinking about stringing this guy along for a while, but I'm wondering what a scammer has to gain from my depositing a bad check.
I was looking recently into a getting place of my own in California and I came across this ad about a 800$ monthly One bed one private bath apartment or I should say “Room” and as me and the ad person started talking over phone number texts they sent me this and now I’m not sure if I’m in the potential hands of a scam or just a cautious person
They sent me link to check my credit sore so it would be for their safety and be secure so we could meet tomorrow but now I’m not so sure cuz the link is
And it says some options which is
First name Last name Email And zip code
I recently just attended a craigslist that was posted 5 days ago that pays $500 to attend a joinscreen. But I wanted to e-mail them again, the post was just deleted. I'm not sure how to contact them, granted the only thing I posted was my name, e-mail, and phone to attend the event, is it a legit one?
I'm trying to help a friend find housing and to hopefully save time, we're thinking of having my friend send a single email with a lot of apartment/room landlords' CL email relays in its To:
field.
Has anyone tried this (as opposed to individual emails)? Did it work? Would BCC:
be better? Thanks for any help!
I posted some things on craigslist recently. I’ve had buyers say they’re interested. I’m a bit leery of just giving out where we live, so I will either ask them to confirm their interest or if they really seem legitimately interested give them my phone number to call. And then I don’t hear back. So I’m wondering, are there folks out there shopping on craigslist that want to find out your address for nefarious reasons and not to buy your item?
